Is he completely in the doghouse or is he hurt? He didn't even play last night in a complete blow out.

Pretty sure that JB would ask Mookie if he wanted a few minutes of garbage time before putting in all the walk-ons.

Not the first time that Mookie gave up some PT to the younger kids.

i guess my only problem here is that i absolutely HATE to see players like kris joseph (ice cold anyways) coming back into the game late second half when we're up 40 and it's clearly decided. the risk of losing our leading scorer to a freak injury in a blowout game clearly outweighs any benefit (or stat padding) i can see.
i thought the mookster.fair and dirty dix could and should have finished up at the 3 and run rak ragged at the 4 til scrub time. or maybe try 3 guards and two bigs to see how that works.
the second half was basically a scrimmage anyways. why take any chances?

Gotta agree with you tbone. Kind of puzzling to me. Doesn't follow the pattern of substitutions up to this point as well. Before this game he was coming in around Brandon Reese time. Maybe he was hurt.

I think JB was working on various combinations of players. Besides, second-stringers often do better if there is at least one starter working with them.

I think unfortunately, Mookie has now really hit the numbers game. One of the advantages of a deep team is that practices are suppose to be so spirited, the 1st five against the 2nd five. Everybody says so. Even Scoop mentioned how it is good to practice against guys who are even better than your apponent. Anyway what this means as the #11 player Mookie might be getting even less practice time. His shot has been way off. And when he gets in he puts a lot of effort into playing an all around game. From accounts, he is well liked by his teammates and gets along fine wiht coach. It may also mean that he and coach have come to an understanding that he doesn't have to get in with the walk ons.

Boeheim has said in the past that he always asks the scholie players if they want to go in prior to inserting the walk ons in garbage time, and they almost always say no.

JB is tinkering with his combinations right now, and Mook isn't in the mix. By conference time, it is likely that MCW and Southerland will drop out of the rotation as well, so Mookie will have some company on the pine.

We were grumbling about that, too. There was no reason for Kris to be out there tossing up fadeaway three-pointers with a thirty-point lead. Sit him down, get a reserve in the game, and run some plays to get touches for Christmas and Keita.

Generally agree. Maybe putting KJ late in this blowout was just to help him get into some flow, assisting his confidence and consistency. I find there are times in games (even these lessor opponent types) where he just appears to be MIA, or not consistently knocking down open looks, something you wouldn't expect from a potential first team all-america type.

Orange, I agree about KJ on offense. I think he is playing pretty well on D (lately at least). Part of this with KJ is probably just the general inefficiency of our offense right now. We need more sets and less one on one attempts...

I agree...I should''ve clarified mostly on the offensive end...

I give Mookie credit for being such a good teammate and the support he enthusiastically gives them during games. Was hoping he'd get time also but hopefully it was his choice - he sure cheered his team on.

Yes Cherie, he has matured a lot from previous years that's for sure. He has become a good teammate. I would like to see him get some time out there, as we are always one or two injuries (see AO) of needing him...

To me, Mookie's plight at SU has been somewhat of an enigma. He was a relatively highly regarded recruit and remember how most here (old board) wanting him over the other Jones we were recruiting at the time, Kevin, whom has had a solid career at WVA. I can't recall anyone as highly ranked at the prep level come to SU and basically just sit his entire career. I think part of the problem is that SU has played him out of his natural position. With his size, along with lack of ball handling skills, he's not a guard...but clearly a small forward.

So, I'm really surprised Mookie is still here...many lessor rated would've transferred out long ago...hindsight being 20/20, I bet Mookie had wished he had at that decisive & critical juncture...

Dick, I tend to agree with your statement. JS should see a few minutes, same with MCW although he has improved last few games. Scoop, BT, and Dion get almost all back court minutes unless one is really off. CJ and KJo dominate 3 and 4 spots (JS gives them a few minute blow periodically) with Xmas in for a few minutes to start (maybe only 1st half).

As for Mook, yeah, it sucks to be #11. However, good for him for hanging in there. Maybe he has fun at practice with the guys. Nothing against the walk-ons, but almost embarrassing for Mook to be sent out with all the walk-ons with 1 or 2 minutes left in a blow out. Would have been nice for him to come in for a few minutes during second half last night with the regulars, given the score.

What's good for Mook is that he is earning his degree from a prestigious university (while on scholly), which is much more valuable to his future.

I really hope you are wrong about dropping MCW out. He seems to be the only guard we have that looks to get the ball into the post regularly. I think he could be key to a long run in the tourney, and I love his hustle and intensity - it is contagious.

i was lucky enough to be sitting in 108 last night front row (thank you seat upgrade!)..jimmy told mook with about 8 minutes left that he wasnt putting him in tonight, mook smiled and nodded his head. i saw throughout the whole game there might not be a better teammate then mookie. the entire game all hes doing is smiling and cheering on his teammates. he might not have panned out as a basketball player, but he seems to be putting it all together as a student-athlete

how did you get the seat upgrade? From someone we know on this board :) Nice story about Mookie...

I will resspectfully disagree wtih you here. I think MCW will be part of the rotation all year. With Southerland, it will depend on if he ever stops rushing his open looks and starts knocking them down. If he does not, I do not see much PT in his future.

ha nope not from someone here, i was the one they randomly give the upgrade to and then put on the video board with otto. he hogged my spot light..i was about to make orange slices with him

Boeheim has said that MCW is not ready. He'll get some run against guys like GW, but when we play serious competition he probably won't.

We often have a guy emerge late in the season during the BET, and this year it could be MCW. Hope so.

But before then, I don't really see it. He has often looked lost against the better teams so far and again, JB himself says he is not ready. My guess is that he'll be brought along slowly and will play aghainst weaker teams. I don't see him cracking the rotation once the meat of the BE slate is upon us.

Gotta love Mookie. In the recent article that was linked on the board, he obviously loves SU. He says he wants to change his official birthplace to Syracuse. He loves the fans and he loves his teammates. He cheers for his teammates and has accepted his situation with grace and dignity.

That is unbelievably rare these days
