In the course of human events, there comes a time when a situation requires that a man take things into his own two hands. I awoke in the middle of the night knowing that there was only one person who could make the decision that would solve our QB dilemma.

I went to my computer and booked a morning flight to Syracuse. After quickly gathering my things, I headed to the airport, boarded the plane, settled into my seat, and before long was greeted by the script "Syracuse" sign at Hancock. I made my way up the Hill, grabbed a late morning slice at the Varsity and strode up to the main campus. As I entered the Quad, I noted that it was silent. Nobody was around, perhaps instinctively aware that something of historical importance was about to occur. Something that might alter Syracuse sports history forever.

I crossed the quad and approached Ernie. We exchanged pleasantries and I got down to business. I outlined our situation and asked who HE thought should be our QB. Without hesitation, Ernie said "Dave Sarette." I paused for a moment, thanked him for his time, and walked away.

Statues sure are funny.

They say the game has changed a bit since then, but you can't argue with a national championship!

Sarette does have a better career TD/INT ratio than Rickie 25/23 as opposed to 3/5, which is impressive considering 1 played in the age of "kill the receiver if you feel like it" and one in the "don't breath to hard on him" era

Yeah, and back then you had to play both ways, offense & defense. If I recall, some said our second team was the 2nd best team in the country. Am I recalling correctly that Dick Easterly was the QB of our second team?

I thought that you were going to say Eric Dungey

We need to send more people up there to talk to Earnie. He seems to have missed a few seasons stuck in that statue.
