The question is going to be asked at some point…

In most of these threads there is so much revisionist history as well as so called fans rooting for bad things.

I've got a hundred bucks that says 98 pct of this board would be thrilled to see us go on a 6 game winning streak and start looking like a dangerous basketball team.

It's a lot more to do with seeing that as highly unlikely than anyone wanting us to lose. I would read the comments to be more of if we are going to end up barely over .500 or at .500 then maybe it's best we don't make it to force the issue at hand. No one wants to see that either but there is no escaping the current trajectory we are on barring a sudden turnaround.

How do we turn it around?

Ya, I'm critical and I'm not even that dialed in, but if you gave me the choice between Boeheim retiring in spring 2022 after a losing season or going on a nice run now and preserving the streak and continuing to coach, 1,000 times out of 1,000 I'm rooting for the latter.

I believe you are spot on here. I practically received this same exact description from my brother-in-law who is an executive for a significant SU booster.
Everyone knows that Hop only took the Husky job because of pressure from JB.

Can't blame Hop for trying to doing the right thing. This is all on JB and the administration.
Its all on JB not the administration. If the admin had wanted to play hard ball JB would have been forced to stick to his commitment

Except Hopkins would have been gone to USC in 2013, if the cards had fallen right.
What does USC have to do with anything being discussed here? (I know all about the USC offer and Hop’s excitement about that job…he planned to bring in Jason Hart and Tony Bland as assistants, an idea that Enfield ran with.)

Thank you. Fans aren’t rooting against the program. Fans are just not being homers and making excuses for what is front of us.

I hope we go and win 12 games in a row. Then win the ACCT and then have to pay Dasher and Suskibum its not happening though.

Yes sir. Despite everything I gave this team the benefit of the doubt even up to this Duke game but less so than after that Gtown loss. I still want them to go on a tear. It's just becoming unrealistic more and more to the point it's a fairy tale. It's laughable I'm at times being targeted as a hater.

Not in the least I'm just saying let's be honest and real that the program isn't where it should be and the stewardship plays a very big part of that. If we can't admit that without it being considered hateful I mean come on..

The entire landscape is changing. The era of the greatest combination of basketball coaches is coming to a close. Let's honor them all and get on with it. If saying its time for a 77 year old coach to go enjoy his family and watch hoops without the stress because that is what he is best at these days is wrong then good lord...

I was just thinking today that this is the time of year when my sports thoughts would turn almost entirely to SU hoops.

My favorite team is out of the NFL Playoffs (granted I’ve been fortunate that for the past 20 years that’s almost always been in late January), and the NBA and NHL are in the meat of their meaningless regular seasons.

So now is when I’d start contemplating tourney seedings and Final Four runs.

Except for the past few years the contemplation was much more about whether we’d manage to squeeze into said tourney. And now it’s about hoping for a near-impossible win streak.

As much as I’m on record as saying the second probation was reason to move on in a gentle and appreciative way, I’d still rather see us go on that near-impossible win streak than any other outcome.

Quite familiar this is minus my NFL team not so much most of the last 26 years.

Without SU hoops buzzing along makes the whole winter hollow.

I have not been a great fan of JAB since I first discovered his very caustic personality.
That said, I did, and still do respect his accomplishments at Syracuse.
But, you knew that was coming, the time has arrived to admit what is, is !
JAB needs to retire, hopefully with the dignity that he certainly has earned over half a century.
But, sadly I believe JAB will fight his departure, and this presents a less than
Ideal conclusion to an otherwise Hall of Fame career.
Jim everyone has their limits, you sadly
have reached yours.
Be proud of what you accomplished and do not tarnish an iconic career!
Get the big send off, relish in it in all its glory!
I would not bet one thin dime JAB will easily accept his limits, and the end of his tenure at Syracuse.

Do top coaches take the job if JB has just been forced out against his will after all he's done for SU?

I mean everyone we want to target has other options to coach basketball for millions of dollars a year. That being said we are a very good job and there could be guys having their agents call our AD now.

I think we run it back next year but under the agreement JB announces its his last and stays out of the hire. If you know you can get one of the guys at the top of the shortlist then you reconsider.
UConn got a coach after they completely messed with Ollie.

What you like to call common sense is still nothing more than speculation - as is much of the stuff on this forum (and most any other fan forum).

Dont discount speculation. People have been sentenced to life in prison over circumstantial evidence.

I’ve got a hundred bucks that says it’s 95%. LOL. But whether it’s 2% or 5% hoping we continue to lose, it’s a significant number and sick to be rooting against this group of kids or any SU team.

In years past I'd say theyd have a great shot to finish 9-3 with this schedule.

I'm hoping to go 7-5, and then steal one in first round of ACCT.

Our expectations of success with the program or our tolerance of what is acceptable has dropped dramatically in the last five to seven years.

Apathy sets in and you're seeing it in attendance and support.

The time for change is now.

They would have to go 11-1 to finish regular season, and win three in the ACCT, for the year to be considered somewhat normal.

Out of five hundred people on this board, how many are willing to put down $1k that that will happen?

Realistically this team, as composed, as they have played, will be lucky to go 7-5 and win one ACCT game ... And the fan base expects that or worse ... And that's the problem.

Coach has created a no win situation for himself. I won't pretend to know what went on between him and the three transfers. But I firmly believe with those guys still here we are a top fifteen team and legit title contender.

It is a shame how things have played out, even though ultimately it was predictable.

We’d certainly be in a better position, but definitely not a legit title contender.

Why did JB seek an extra year for Jimmy if he wasn’t planning on coming back. Also total silence on this being Buddys last year.

I fully expect JB to be back, and i also expect us to make the tournament next year and if so Jim just might retire.
If we play 30+ minutes of Joe, Buddy, Jimmy, and Cole next year, we won’t be physically capable of making the tournament. Don’t have the horses.

Either Benny emerges, one of the freshman is shockingly really good right away, or we get a stud transfer…..or we’re screwed.

We can’t defend, can’t handle pressure, and have zero clue how to win down the stretch.

Every game against reasonably comparable talent is a friggin crapshoot. Makeup of this team says we probably lose more than half of the winnable ones though.

You will loose that bet. No wants wants the program to fail. We just want a fresh pair of eyes. Time for him to do what's right and step down

...and elected to do what was best for him.

No issue with that, but that decision backfired in terms of him demonstrating his chops with respect to running a program.

But loyalty / the pursuit of self-interests works both ways. Now, the AD needs to do what's best for OUR program, which doesn't include giving a failed HC a second chance, when there are better candidates out there.
It backfired for us too. Maybe if pitchfork hadn't come out after those 9 games. That weighed heavily into Hops thinking. It made him realize the rope he would have. It really bothered him. He thought it was unfair. It's sad because Hop taking over and landing Stewart and all his connections could have set us up perfectly.

Frankly it was unfair and ridiculous. He was a substitute teacher. That wasn’t his squad.

I’m pissed off that actually had an impact on him, because I recognized how stupid it was at the time, as did many others.

Now maybe Hop actually didn’t/doesn’t have it…..but we could’ve spent the last 5 years finding out and not missed out on anything significant on this end.

What a wild freakin waste of time this program has become.

Could you imagine if Hop adjusted rotations to his liking? Probably wouldn’t have gone over well with Jb.

Gotta let Hop do his own thing to truly know.

I’m shocked that things have gotten so bad after they started so good out there.

But that mid season 2017 run should’ve been meaningless in terms of how it affected him. That was Jimmy’s squad.

Wish we got to clear out all the BS and see if Hop could’ve ran the show here going forward.

I can’t help but think we would at least have a lot more talent than we do now.
