This is going to mess up a lot of recruiting Excel charts.

Rivals is the biggest joke of them all !!
If Tommy played as a sophomore in high school ( which he should have ) he would have had early offers and been a 5 star ! That’s why he out performed all the elite 11 qbs and was viewed as an underdog . Tua , Trevor Lawrence they were 5 stars and come in with the extra hype deservedly so . It’s a shame Tommy has to go the harder road again but he will . Commentators are the same they read the hype sheets and are clueless. It’s a messed up system for sure
Whatever got Tommy to SU, I'm all for it :)

Camp at the schools you are interested in attending. Coaches see you doing the drills that are important to them. They can mentally compare you to their current players.
We did lots of regular (soccer) camps. Only one, EXACT, was worth while.

Which one?

I am looking at soccer camps right now and would love your insight as the the one you felt was best.

Sportswriter I once knew started a column: "Pro wrestling is losing all of its credibility."

Your comment on the recruiting sites losing theirs brought back that wonderful line.
Phil The Dick Mushnick?

I always believed the tail wagged the dog with these recruiting services. An alleged early offer from Alabama and your up, a commitment to a lesser program and your rating drops.

Same. I’m okay Tommy didn’t get the fifth star. Haha we can take the benefits here caretaker! And i will buy you some beers to make up the difference.
Parent recruiting violation.

This was pulled off with a local kid too. I forget the name they used but it was a QB at the local CNS high school. Gave him stats, no film, lots of bluster and he got ranked on the recruiting sites. I knew something was wrong right off the bat because I knew the QB from CNS, and it wasn’t him.

I thought it was a safety prospect at Henniger? At least that’s how I remember it around 2004ish.

Shocked that they didn't give him 4 stars with his "Bama Offer"...

Yet people complain that our classes are ranked too low on the sites. It's all subscriber BS.

Generally the 4/5 star recruits they do a decent job with. Because they’re generally easy to grade and it’s harder to get away with nonsense.

Once you get into the fringe 4 star and down into the 3’s, this nonsense happens regularly every year.

Yea him too. So that’s two locals that pulled it off.

This was posted on our football board. (We don't have one devoted to recruiting so the mods can move it if they like.) It will be interesting to see how the services react.

There’s more to the story. One “reporter” in Tennessee allegedly spoke to the “recruit” and claimed that he had also received an offer from Syracuse.

Local radio speculation is that the “reporter” was another fake persona invented by the high school kids.

That "reporter" did a basic level of research on the internets. We do offer a lot of dudes.

Phil The Dick Mushnick?

Actually, no. But I wouldn't rule out that the writer "borrowed" from Mushnick. Of course it could have been the other way. Writers do a lot of borrowing.

The Elite 11 competition took Justin Fields from relative unknown to 5* recruit so it does work to raise profiles for some.

Justin fields was way blown up prior to the elite 11

The way it works is if you have offers as a freshman usually your 5 star as a sophomore
4-5 star as a Jr 2-3 star just the uppped way the rate kids . All it takes is one service to rate a kid than it’s lazy evaluation

I did this a while ago and it was hilarious.

I went to a HS in Syracuse in the mid 2000s that had a top 10 state ranked football team, you can probably guess which one. A lot of my friends had D1 offers and rankings on recruiting sites. I didn’t play football. I played other sports.

A couple of my non-football friends and I created a fake profile on one of the sites, I was a 6’6 240 lb WR with a 4.6 40 with offers from most Big East, Ivy, and a couple ACC schools. A recruiting analyst called me and gave me a full interview. They wrote and published an entire article about me, with my quotes and all, which schools I’m taking official visits to, and even some late interest from Big Ten and SEC schools.

That adolescent humor. So funny. Did you make prank phone calls also to old ladies asking if their refrigerator was running?
