RF2044 made a similar declaration early in 2018. We started 4-0 and it looked good. Unfortunately, we suffered back to back (although close) road losses to Clemson and (putrid) Pitt, I posted that he was full of it.

We proceeded to win out (except ND), including a bowl victory over WVU. It was the best season we had had in 20 years, and I was compelled to send a groveling, apologetic DM admitting that he had been onto something the whole time and I didn't have the vision to see it coming.

Not making that mistake again.

Which was totally unnecessary, by the way. All good.

Here's the thing: GoSU96 is consistently one of the least "fanboy" type of posters with respect to football. He's pragmatic [sometimes frustrating so -- sorry, Go] and usually downplays optimism. He's data driven with respect to his opinions. And he sometimes calls out why on-field results are misleading or should be taken with a grain of salt.

So prior to preseason camp, when he started breaking down the roster and looking objectively at this season's outlook, I took notice when he started saying things like [paraphrasing]:
  • Hey, I know that the OL has sucked for two years, but looking at depth / experience, I think we're going to see markedly improved execution up front...
  • The back 7 on D are stacked -- if the DL does their part, we might be better than expected on D...
  • DeVito and Shrader are pushing each other in practice. If QB play improves...

Then, once the games started and we had observable data, he started taking note of things like:
  • The OL is looking serviceable, and this is without a key starter [Davis]
  • The DTs are performing MUCH better than expected, again without a key starter [McKinley Williams]
  • WRs have been pedestrian, but if we get some of the younger players into the mix...
  • DeVito hasn't been all that bad, despite some of the opinions expressed on the board

EVERYONE is frustrated about the Rutgers loss. It was a huge opportunity to get out of the gate 3-0, in a season where we absolutely have to get to a bowl. And it would have been a statement win against a local peer program that negative recruits the hell out of us. But most of all, RU wasn't better than us. We held them to a low score, but shot ourselves in the foot with repeated turnovers.

But when Go says that he likes our chances against Liberty and beyond, and that this is possibly the best team we've had behind 2012 and 2018 -- I pay attention. Not because he's saying what I want to hear, but because he isn't usually a rah rah poster who views things through orange colored goggles.

Doesn't mean we're going to win tonight. But it also suggests that whatever today's outcome is, an L isn't the end of the world. We need to get 6. Anything more, while that would be great, is gravy.

Postseason or bust -- and per Go's assessment above, we're trending in the right direction on BOTH sides of the ball.

Yeah, don’t want to get too positive around here. It offends a segment of the fan base lol

Yeah, it’s hard to take you too seriously when during the Shafer years you basically made all the same arguments. Everyone knew he was a train wreck, especially at the end. But you continued to attack anyone for saying anything bad about Shafer. It was kind of like telling everyone things were going to get better as the Titanic was taking on water. Sorry I don’t blindly believe things with no evidence to support it. I know, I’m kind of weird in today’s world.

I love the optimism from our most knowledgable posters. It gives me hope this is going in the right direction. I have doubts but as we all hope, the doubts are just Syracuse football PTSD.

A win tonite really would get them in position to where they can make a run at a bowl game. At the end of the day, that's the baseline we want yearly. To be playing in November for bowl positions. Makes everything better for sure

Very well said.

While I am loathe to ever say anything positive about SUNJ in any regard….

Rutgers D >>>>>>>>>. Liberty’s D.

That, plus the totally bogus fumble call on Taj, are big parts of why we only scored 7.
Without the Taj fumble and then assuming we score that touchdown… we scored 14 points against Rutgers at home

Instead of pointing out why this could be inaccurate?

We have the #2 graded running offense, and the #2 defense in the ACC. Is there a saying about great defense, or a great running game?

*I reserve the right to be drinking by the 3rd Q, if its not going well.
Offense sells tickets, defense wins games. I believe it's true in several sports.

He misuses stats quite often.

And how can we forget the week long Corner Turned posts after WV in 2011. We then lost the next 5 games to close the season. We then went with a totally new O system 2 weeks before the next season. That season we lost our first 3 FBS games and 4 of the first 5. So it was 8 straight losses and 9 of 10. The one win was by a point vs Pitt, who was inside our 20 late but took 2 sacks. They punted over going for a long FG. The FCS game we were down after 1Q, down at half, up 4 after 3Q, and didn’t put the game away until late 4th. It was a horrible stretch of 11 games after Corner Turned, with an total change in direction on O.

Or the over 30 ppg from this year. We need to average 30 the rest of the way for that to happen. The 2016-17 teams were under 25 ppg in ACC play to put that into perspective.

Then we have the Tommy man crush. The kids career stats are on par with Nunes but somehow Tommy is a Top flight QB?

Go has been the kiss of death. His post worries me for the rest of this seasons turnout.

Go is a jock sniffer for SU related people, CNY related people, and people from the boot. He really doesnt know much about football.

No good can come from looking back at how anyone is right or wrong. I could do the same with yours and you with mine. Personal attacks show lack of character, not superior anything.

It’s more helpful to point out specifics using other info in counter argument
