This play by Jalen Carey

he clearly palmed the ball which is why the OSU fans went crazy. thats a travel

Palming the ball is called a “carry”. This is basic basketball stuff..just saying

its all just a variation of a travel.. the only reason it has a secondary name is to make it easier for the refs to tell you why they called it a travel. palm and carry are not the same thing. you can palm the ball without moving but you cant carry the ball without moving.

He doesn't really seem frustrated to me and if he is he should've went to buttgers. One thing stood out to me last night, when he got yanked and received and epic JB azz chewing for his ridiculous ill advised 20 footer, he stood right there, made some eye contact and took it. Reading lips he was clearly saying "i know" and nodding his head up and down. He was being scolded and he was accepting it. He didn't pout, he didn't go to the end of the bench and sulk, he took it like a man. I thought that was big of him.

He'll learn and then he'll get more minutes.
Sinking 4 foul shots at the end gets JB's attention.

Another example of scouting services being clueless when it comes to basketball evaluation.

Jahvon Quinnerly was top 30 and had had his minutes cut because he looks a mess when he has played for Nova and Carey wasn’t even top 60.

Evan Daniels, Corey Evans, and Jerry Meyer need their eyes checked.
I agree with your general point. Wasn't Carey just inside the top 50 though. Maybe I'm miss-remembering.

Loved that and right after he found Elijah Hughes in transition. Frank Howard doesn't make that pass. Live Carey coming off the bench. Gives us a different speed and a shot in the leg.

Not sure why you say that. Frank has made plenty of passes over the years to the bigs after penetrating. He had one in the first half that Sid bobbled and had to pass out to the corner. Last year he had a couple a game which 50% of the time were bobbled, dropped, or the layup missed. Our bigs don’t have great hands.

But I loved that pass. It was a PG pass.

He's talking about the push ahead to Hughes and he's right. Frank is not a run and gun, push the ball kind of PG, for the most part.

I would hope frank would make that pass. Hughes took off immediately and got behind everyone like a WR. That’s just passing the ball ahead. It’s one of only 2 fast breaks we ran all night but was a no brainer. I was far more happy with Jalens pass inside. That was a PG pass.

Don't see how anyone can say it's a carry or travel. The in and out hesitation was all in one motion.

Hughes likes to run more than anyone on our team it seems. Not sure if I give Carey or Hughes credit there.

Both. On the play after the "controversial" dribble, he had his head up the entire time and found Hughes in transition. He's less likely to run if he knows the personnel on the court won't push the rock up the court. In his limited time on the floor, Jalen played very well.

I'm not sure Frank makes that pass because I'm not sure he takes off up the court immediately for the outlet like Carey did. He caught the outlet pass on the move upcourt. Frank has a tendency of running back toward the rebounder instead of starting to leak out to push the ball.

Eh. He was standing near the rebounder. Took 1 step up court and dribbled once. All good stuff but not really a rebound and then an outlet for a fast break.

Where does he travel? I've watched it 10+ times in slow-mo and didn't see a travel.
Looked like a double dribble. Not sure can’t see the whole thing but watching it real-time I thought it looked weird, still do, but you can’t tell for sure if he put his other hand on the ball, then dribbled again, but it looks like.

I thought it was a double dribble, but if he didn't touch with both hands it was a carry. They don't call it in the NBA anymore either, doesn't make it right.

I also think Harden/Curry travel 5x a game...
I thought the same

Big time play. This is what you see from upperclass, all-ACC guards. This is why he was such a big get for Syracuse. Would like to see him do this more consistently. Sometimes he seems too fast for his own good. Needs to continue to learn to harness his speed and play more controlled.

Look at the "Flop and Pop" at 3:40. I see the shot coming after the 'foul', which means it should not have counted. Pat on the radio today said they were "simultaneous because he had already started his shooting motion". What do you, (anybody) see?

Lotto pick after next year hes a stud
Carey is a promising young talent but OSU really didn’t apply tight pressure like Hurley did. His handle is a bit erratic at this stage and will hurt his draft value for the foreseeable future... which is good for us in a way.
