This season is an absolute disaster

Also not getting pointed out enough is that our players for years have not been strong enough to battle physical teams. I am not a S&C expert but we look like kids playing men physically. The Vols had kids literally going thru us and over us without any push back.

Well it is official. I have completed the five stages of grief for the SU MBB program. I have passed from denial, to anger, to bargaining, right thru depression, and have arrived at acceptance.

It is not just that SU basketball has become unwatchable, it's like there is nothing there to make one even care anymore.

What a shame that the school sat by and let this crown-jewel of an asset get utterly squandered away.
This is exactly what they did to the football program. Luckily for my sanity the football team appears to be coming out of there 25 year coma.

Let’s hope JW doesn’t jack up the basketball program more than he already has with his indecision. His Fran Brown hire gives him a mulligan but he better hit a grand slam soon with the next basketball coach.

One of the first posts I made was about their size. It looked like a JV vs Varsity game, except Carlos who was maybe bigger than his guy? Lol

I contributed a little bit to NIL, and I feel like my money was lit on fire. Imagine being the guy who was told this year would be good/tourney so he contributed an EXTRA 300k after Lampkin tried to decommit for more money. Can't imagine our big boosters are enjoying watching what looks like bad coaching after spending money on guys they were told would get us over the hump. They will decide how long Red's here.

I genuinely want to know who watched footage of the portals this year and decided to open their checkbook. Mainly because I have a collection of poorly thought-out, probably mediocre startup ideas that could really use hundreds of thousands of dollars in seed funding.

Got an emailed great ticket deal midday on the morning JJ was injured -not yet public knowledge.
16 tix for $200, pick your game(s) -all games eligible.
Almost pulled the trigger, decided to think it over/talk to family. Glad I waited.
That deal doesn't look quite so wonderful now...
If that wasn't a pre-set email, I'm concerned about leadership's morals when it comes to milking the passionate fanbase. Not saying it's fraud, but it does seem to fit the elements of actionable fraud in this state. They should focus on building a championship caliber program, not scraping by and trying to milk their fans' hard earned money when they don't know the full story.

Some big name opponents are coming to the Dome this year. We'll have 3 or 4 pretty big crowds. Casual fans will want to see Duke, North Carolina and Georgetown.

You are certainly right, but it's a rather painful realization that the highlight of this season for me might be "I saw Cooper Flagg before he was wrecking the NBA!"

You've read here all the posts "you think you know better than the coaches". Imagine the staff and leadership call you and tell you how great these guys are based on watching dozens of games of footage and how they can get you into the tournament. We have analytics, etc. etc. You're going to rely more on the basketball experts than highlights on youtube. They might feel lied to right now. Those people are more in control now than ever. We'll see what happens.

This season is over. Ive accepted it. Destined for a 14-17 record at best. No sense in getting stressed over it. We just are not a good team and the roster that we built isnt any good.

Play the freshmen, get them some run time and hopefully these guys stick around for next season.

Season was doomed to fail without a point guard.

They whiffed badly it appears on Carlos. So...

Why is Kyle Cuffe on this roster? What does he do? If he can't be a ball handler like Autry says, then there is absolutely zero reason to have a 6'2 at best player on the team. His roster management has been awful
Yeah, I agree. If given the minutes, how could Cuffe be any worse? At least he has upside.

Whiffing is one thing. Not realizing you whiffed and adjusting is the real kick in the d
That's what I've been saying. It sucks we couldn't get a high profile PG that we all thought we would get. Really sucks. However, what sucks even more and is infuriating is Red going with a player who should be sitting with the walk ons.

Well, as I pointed out elsewhere, the highest profile pg, Aiden Mahaney of St Mary’s, went to UConn, where he has lost the starting job, is shooting 31%, 28% from 3, and averaging 2 assists. No such thing as a sure thing.

You're missing my point. It's one thing to miss on a recruit/transfer. It happens. Sticking with the recruit/transfer and not going to option b or c is the problem. Hurley moved on. Red has not. That's the main issue now.

I kinda feel bad for Red because he was starting to reduce Carlos' minutes. He logged a season low on minutes last game. But with JJ out he won't continue the trend and he won't get the benefit of the doubt on that. Bad situation all around.

To me, my disappointment is not about giving Carlos a chance. That's fine. He's your guy.

But when he's clearly not getting it done, you can't play that guy 30 minutes when you aren't giving other guys who play the position any time at all.

That's the issue. Give some time to people who might be able to help us.

I've no doubt you're right about this. Thing is, I don't think anybody is questioning if Red knows the game (and if they are, I would have some unkind things to say about it lol).

A huge part of leadership is wading through the nonsense and making tough calls correctly. Taking the good advice and spitting out the bad. Deciding the path forward, and adapting it quickly when necessary but also sticking to things that will pan out. That is the stuff we're questioning.

I said the same thing in my group text last night. If I'm roster building next year, those are the only two guys from the current squad that I would want on there.
I thought that sub .500 team was as close to the bottom for us, I'm not so sure now.

With all the problems the most glaring is the lack of defensive effort.

Say what you will about Boeheim, but he had a defensive scheme and forced his players to learn it and execute it (regardless of whether it worked, unfortunately).

But You don't play tough D...you're unlikely to win.
That's how Clemson beat Kentucky last night...they played defense.

How is it that there's no defensive emphasis for the Orange?
It's as if defense is optional.
Do the coaches not teach it and demand the effort?
That should have been priority number 1.
There is no excuse for how bad it's been.

Bingo.

There wasn't one single thought of defense when this roster was constructed.

Wouldn't your first move be to surround the worst defenders we've seen in decades who are eating 60+ minutes per game? No, Carlos and then you grabbed a center who can't move to defend the guards that are burning by these bum defenders?

We have to score 90 to win.

And lost Maliq.

C’mon. Freeman’s had three double doubles, and was ACC frosh of the week. He’d start.
