Thomas Bryant Situation

Excuse me, I need to go dive into my junk e-mail folder for a little message about male enhancement, in that case!

I need to go into my deleted folder and contact the dude from Zumbigwa to collect my 150 million dollars.

Completely disagree.

Love this kid's tools, and the way that he plays. He would be a major factor here from the moment he steps onto campus.
Pfft, you're only saying that because he's 6-10, physically ready for the next level, plays like an animal, and possesses an above-average skillset.

If that wasn't the case, you'd think he's overrated, too.

I don't expect him to put up Rak numbers but yeah, he is going to have a huge impact when he comes here, he's going to have to play 20+ minutes a game. He looks like an excellent fit to play the 5 in our zone. He looks quick and athletic, I'm excited if he comes.

just for clarity, DC2 won't have been totally inactive for 2 years. he's practicing hard now and if deemed healthy enough might even get some summer run (even though I wouldn't risk it).

I hope DC can play at a high level again at some point. My fear is once he really stresses his knees the injury recur again. It's a tough roll of the dice for DC.

Agree 100%. I don't expect him to be a 1 and done, and I don't expect him to come anywhere close to duplicate Rak's numbers next year if he ends up at SU. But I see him as a 10 and 8 guy from the jump, with the potential to be an Arinze like inside terror the following year or two.

What DC is going through is crazy for somebody his age. His knees are TAXED right now, I don't know what the shelf life will be for him playing basketball for a career with knees like that, and I don't know how many minutes he's going to be able to play per game for us the next two years. I'm assuming with his knees that it's going to be very difficult for him to be a 30 minute guy for us.

I'll sign up for that in a heartbeat.

cooney, bj, buss, dc, mac, one of them will be gone count on it

I don't know if I agree with this sentiment. I don't CMac will enter the draft with a torn ACL. I think TC will not risk and will have a better chance if he stays one more year. I think BJ and RP will wait in the wings for this chance to shine on the big stage. DC is not going anywhere until he proves he can play. Of all the players listed I can see DC deciding his BB career is over because of his knee problems before any of the others leave.

I think Chino and Bryant played together in HS. Anyone know how tight they are?

What separates him from DC ?

competing for the back up 3 with BJ if new Tyler's shots are falling, he'll see time

Mike G will play 37 minutes a game at the 3. That leaves 3 minutes a game between BJ and Lydon.

You can tell just by their high school videos the difference in athleticism of the two. Bryant can play above the rim, I don't think DC could before, with his knee I'm not sure if he can.

I know it's different injuries and sports, but I thought the same for Frank Gore.

I agree with you. It's going to be tough road for him.

Back to the money/scholarship thing. I think that they can play with academic scholarships, or if not scholarships grants. What about the Ivy league players? My nephew played Div. 1 hockey for Union, which follows the Ivy league and they follow the noathletic scholarships because they are in the same conference as the Ivys. But my nephew got plenty of other aid, and grant money and that was legal according to the NCAA committee. That is the model that the Ivys use. They give other money to the players. So maybe 60% was covered by grants and 40% was on the student athlete.

I didn't think about it, but Cooney's probably going to be graduating in the Summer. IDK if there's a minimum requirement for credit hours to be eligible to play, but that certainly makes paying his own way much more reasonable. Room and board could be killer, but I'd imagine he could find some accommodating roommates.
If Cooney graduates he gets to be a dorm daddy with free room and board. If he takes min credits he would have time for an assistantship for tuition.

Don't worry about playing time. Jim is going to contact Cal and put his platoon system in place. :)

We need to call The Wolf. If he could handle The Bonnie Situation under an extreme time crunch, The Thomas Bryant Situation should be a snap.

I think those saying Bryant is LIKELY to chose to go elsewhere have done a poor job following his recruitment. All indications are that SU is and always has been his first choice. The recruiting side has been following him for almost 3 years. IF there is room I expect he will be here. Chris was the planned on spot but that doesn't mean there won't be a spot.

Also those talking about Diange as a 4 would benefit from checking out the recruiting board as well. He can step away and make jumpers and he has good ball skills to go with decent quickness and lateral movement for a guy his size. He can IMO play some 4 but would not be a full time guy there. I would say a slightly quicker Rick Jackson type on the wing defensively. Still he is more of a 5 than a 4 and his offense is more of a low post game. Bryant has an excellent high post offensive game for a center not to say he doesn't have a low post game as well.

None of this is new information or opinions as there are a group of posters headed by Francis who do an absolutely great job following recruiting on this very board. I've said this before and will repeat it, many of you would benefit greatly in your understanding of our recruiting situation and even the players already here if you spent some time over their watching and reading. Its a resource!
