College and NBA players are typically listed by an exaggeration of 2 inches.

Simply not true. Players are listed at their height in sneakers, which makes sense, since that's how tall they are on the court. Look at the measurements of he players from the combine, without shoes, in shoes and then their listed heights. Overall, pretty accurate.

Donte Greene is listed at 6'11 do you think he's much taller than 6'8?

6-8.25 w/out shoes. 6-9 in shoes.

Rick Jackson measured 6-8.5 without shoes and 6-9.5 with shoes. Syracuse listed him at 6-9.
