Through 18 Starts

The 2010 OL was pretty bad (not in stats above). As were the 2016-17 OLs. Less than half of the 2012 games are in the above stats.
TD had a line last year (12 games in this analysis) where a converted FB was our highest graded lineman on the year. Dungey had some mediocre lines but it was never that bad.

Devito is a decent stats QB, watch the actual games and you see how bad he is. His 2019 stats are decent yet the offense that year could not move the ball, I'd like to know how much of TD's stats came on 50+ yard chucks or when the game had already well been decided. TD doesn't take risks and in his 3 years as a starter the offense has been horrendous. Just take the Rutgers game and his decision making on the final drive, all safe short throws he get's his stats yet when you actually watch the game you know what he is.
There’s a touch of truth to this but the reliance on “good stats, bad player” is a bit much. We play from behind a lot, and that’s partially on him but not completely. He’s had good moments. Not enough. And almost none vs Rutgers.

Here is a comparison of 18 starts between Nassib, Dungey, and Devito

For Nassib I used 2011 and the first six games of 2012. Reasoning it was to give him another year post Robinson.

For Dungey I used his first two years under Dino. He started nine games each year.

For Devito it encompasses all 18 starts to date.

If Devito is a horrible FCS level qb, what are those other two?
Why would you go through all this? None of it meets the eye-test or better yet...wins.

somebody gets it.
Go, I ask this in all sincerity - are you ok?

This isn't usually how we talk to each other.

It's been too long since you've made fun of me for that George McDonald post where I made a bunch of egg jokes and I'm legitimately worried about your welfare now.

In 2019 26.6% of his yards came when we were down by 15 points or more. 48.7% came down 8 or more. 58.6% when losing. And that isn’t taking out the non P5 games which make it even worse.

What? Just don't understand how you can continue to defend the indefensible. Why die on that hill?
I’m not dying on any hill. I think he’s been bad to mediocre. I’m not sure he’ll get more than 1 more start, but if he does it doesn’t mean all is lost. It’s possible he can still take a leap, especially if the OL solidifies.

I think this supports the argument?

Dungey and Nassib had some pretty good receivers too. The jury is still out on this group of receivers.

Look regardless of whatever stats people put out winning is the problem. Dino and Tommy have been losers together. That is a fact. If you are foolish enough to believe that Tommy won't be the starter the rest if the year, I don't know what to tell you.
When through 2 games Tommy has 80-85 percent of the plays he is your starter, case is already closed, and has been.

I don't think the jury is still out, the receivers we have seen the past 2 years are below average players besides Taj.

You saw the W/L records in the OP right?

Against P5 teams in 2019:

87.8% of his yards were when we were losing
72.4% was when losing by 8+ points
39.8% down 15+ points

Nearly 40% of his yards came in garbage time.

Also he didn't start and barely played vs Wake. So he is 6-11 as a starter. So it is 17 games not 18. Giving Tommy credit for Wake is silly even by Go's standards.

he takes so many sacks that make his per pass numbers better and his per pass numbers are still bad

he doesn't throw interceptions locking onto one guy and not throwing the ball

it's goofy cherry picking to throw out dungey's first two years, we know that's your reasoning.

dungey was a better passer and ran for thousands more yards.

when he throws the ball, he's not terrible

Over all of Tommy’s starts during this stretch what is his best win?

5-7 Duke in 2019? 3-7 Georgia Tech in 2020?

Nassib beat ranked #10 Louisville and #11 WVU.

Dungey beat #17 Virginia Tech in 2016 and #1 Clemson in 2017.

You’ve done a great job showing stats can be manipulated.

Your concern and compassion is really overwhelming.
