Golf has been relevant to the masses since the 1950s when Ike and Arnie and television brought it into the mainstream. Tiger makes it more relevant, because of his greatness and because he is a lightning rod for fans, much like Jack. But the game has always been populated by great players and compelling characters, going back more than a hundred years.
