Toledo Series

At least you get to watch the Orange.

As a side trip, from Toledo drop down to Dayton, spend a day or two at the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB - it's FREE! It's worth a trip of its own. On the way back to CNY, stop for lunch in the Amish region - or take another day visiting the shops and restaurants (be prepared to eat, just like Italians and Greeks, they don't know the concept of small portions). Or reverse the order, regardless a good long weekend.

For the daring, spend a day in Cincy, if you like, it's a little over an hour from the Air Force Museum.
I've been to the Air Force Museum 3 or 4 times. It's very much worth the trip.

I am glad SU is sticking to its guns on this, As best I can determine, Notre Dame still thinks the 2026 Syracuse game is at Notre Dame. The fbschedules web site just changed things so that game is now listed at SU (in one place anyway).

Not a huge fan of playing Toledo. It’s one of the hardest MAC locations for SU fans in upstate NY to drive to. Toledo is one of the strongest schools in the conference. And I’m not really excited about visiting Toledo.

I would be much happier playing Buffalo, Akron, or Kent. And I would feel a lot better about things if this was a three game series with two in Syracuse.

That said, I understand we can’t offer a big guarantee like some of the other P5 schools can to,get buy games for MAC schools. Maybe we could offer to play these schools in basketball in the dome to help make a two for one series happen?
Settle down with your Toledo rant. It’s fine. It’s two wins.

Shouldn’t be that hard to get to. Just stay on 90 and you pretty much run right into that s.o.b.

I felt so strange after that game. Like I'll take the win whenever we can get it, but how can you just not count a kick that objectively goes in? It wasn't like a PI call that could go either way -- a kick either goes in or it doesn't.
That entire season was just.. weird and unpleasant

was at the TOLEDO game in 99? One of the refs drank beers with us in the parking lot. We got there early and I believe we had some folks from the old board join us... game ended early from an injury to a Toledo player that put a damper on the game. Game was in hand so they just called it off...

IIRC Dwight Freeney was out for season with a hand injury. I think he accidentally cut some ligaments or tendons.

I don’t think it was a rant. I have nothing against Toledo.

I have in fact always been intrigued by Toledo based on Martin Mull’s old joke..

I look forward to visiting it. It’s actually a half hour less of a drive than it was to Ohio University, and there are no Appalachian m
Mountains to make things more difficult.

Just pointing out from the perspective of at least one CNY based fan, there are better options out there for a home and home.

I swear, SU could schedule a game in your backyard and some of you would howl with complaints.

My peonies!

I should get 2 home games!

It's 27 seconds from my bedroom to the back porch! Unacceptable!
I definitely want 7 homes games each season, so I understand when people complain when that doesn't happen. But other than that, it does seem like these threads are why some people joke about CNY always finding something to complain about.

:)

I think people are sleeping on Toledo a bit.
Last year they beat Pitt and Mississippi State
2023 they lost by 2 at Illinois
2021 they lost by 3 at Notre Dame
2019 they beat BYU

Miami (the real one in Florida) and BYU has also played them home/home recently and Kentucky goes to Toledo in 2028, so it's not just Syracuse.

I think it's fair to assume that Fran has approval/veto power over who we schedule OOC at this point? If he didn't want to play a 1:1 vs. Toledo we wouldn't be playing a 1:1 vs. Toldeo.

So maybe people stop fantasy booking schedules. I'm 100% sure if we booked a series vs. UMass the same people who are whining now would be whining about that.

Yep

Isn't the simple answer that ACC teams (in general) cannot afford the current market rate for scheduling lop-sided home-heavy series against G5?

Hey NCAA, competitive balance blahblahblah.

But all the other P4 schools can? That includes the B12.

The ACC planned to not play anymore G5 road games. But that seems to have either gone away, or is not being enforced much like the one OOC P4 rule.

There are 68 P4 schools, and 66 G5 schools. There isn't enough room for each of those 66 G5s to get a pay day game outside of the ACC doing it too.

Covid screwed up our BC/Pitt schedule. We have to get back to having one of them home and the other away.

It can be done pretty easily.

its a message board - we aren't all going to share the same opinion, and that's okay!

I prefer a 2:1 with G5s. Maybe there were no options for that and I can live with that. It's scheduling, nothing is ever perfect.

But i don't have to be excited about a toledo 1:1

On the first point only, I would not be surprised. Private vs public, ACC has the highest concentration of schools that can't soak the taxpayers for help.

I mean... CNY does have a rich cultural history with peonies, so I could kind of understand this one.

My point is that folks here are never happy about any OOC series.

If people aren't complaining about 2-for-1s then they're complaining about the geography. If they're not complaining about the quality of opponent -- which of course could be too good or too bad -- then they're complaining about the date.

No one needs to be excited about Toldeo. It's just not a calamity.

And Fran is extending our natural recruiting area westward back into Ohio, where we haven’t done much lately.
In the past we had gotten some really good players from there.

Agreed. It's a 5 hour drive from Syracuse to Cleveland. 6.5 to Toledo.

There's no reason why, say, Maryland is considered part of our natural recruiting radius yet eastern Ohio is not. The distances are remarkably similar.
