Class of 2016 Transfer Thread

Kinda a head scratcher, though, when elite programs can convince players like Thompson to come and be a backup but SU can't unless we can offer immediate playing time.

Taurean doesn't need to be convinced to come in as a back up. If he comes and blows away th competition he plays a lot and the player comes in for him. Its the overall depth thats critical. Being able to withstand crappy refs who love to blow their whistle for phantom fouls . I just think that as good as chukwu might be and thats a complete unknown at this time I have seen how our big men have historically gotten into foul trouble earl whihurts their game and the team's record by the end of the season I have seen a little Chukwuvideo and he seems to be a very good player out there but again this is the ACC and this is a very tough league and the coaching on this team for him I think will be fund wanting.

Are you serious? Why would he leave?
People were saying he was ready to leave mid-season so it's not that crazy an idea. He might as well test the draft and not hire an agent.

Speaking of transfers, following the two transfers, I think it's a great opportunity to go after a traditional transfer or two.

We have THREE open spots for 2016-2017 and it's looking like up to 4-5 more for 2017-2018. With so much uncertainty and so much riding on the 2017 class, I think it would be a smart idea to add a kid or two that will have more college experience and is more likely to be an immediate contributor when eligible. We aren't grabbing 3 grad transfers this year, and at this point Thompson seems unlikely, so adding one or two players that would help the following year makes too much sense to me.

Now the question is, who's available that would be worth pursuing????

Justin Simon.

6-5 point guard... sit out a year with 3 to play. Sounds similar to Gbinije except a little more suited to the guard position. And his length sounds ideal for the zone. Brewster Academy kid too - CJ Fair went there.
Bad outside shooter and a terrible FT shooter...sounds like the perfect SU fit

You could say the same thing about G when he transferred from Duke and his first season here. Simon had a rep in HS for being very versatile and scoring in a variety of ways. Shooting is one department that we have seen plenty of players improve on with hard work and repetition throughout the off season. Can't see why Simon couldn't join that list, unless his shot is completely broken?

Jumper looks to be OK - form isn't Josh Pace level. Not a pure shooter by any stretch by the looks, but I think you can work with it for sure.

Seems to have the ball in his hands a lot in the highlights from Brewster that I saw. Which bodes well to his ability to transition into a guard role right away at SU.

I was just messing around, as I think Simon would be a fine fit and could follow the G timeline. I agree he could definitely improve that shot, but he's starting from way, way down there success-wise.

With Frank Howard and Tyus (I think) as not great shooters, adding another would seem to really hurt our potential just based on personnel.

Why? Quade is playing the 1, while Simon projects as a G/Battle type that can play multiple positions from 1-3. Getting another PG like telling Duval that we really really miss him, would be more likely to hurt us with Quade.

Do we have any shot with Simon?

Not really surprised. He got less and less time while Matt Jones etc got more and supposedly daddy Thornton didn't hide his displeasure with Coach K. Thornton was talked into reclassifying to leave early last year when Tyus Jones left early. His dad wanted him to stay in HS or be redshirted believing he wasn't ready but Coach K told them he was going to be a key player. These early departures screw up more programs than us and even end up hurting other kids in the program.

It's interesting that Duke now has room for another recruit. They are recruiting a big (Bolden?) that's down to Duke and Kentucky. Nothing like getting a kid to come in early and then dump him after one year. He obviously saw the writing on the wall and now Duke can add another 5 star recruit. SU is not even in the same stratosphere as Duke is in recruiting.

Duke opened up a ship here for Bolden. They are definitely now playing Kentucky's game, perhaps even better then UK this year. We will need to step it up to compete. Hope Mali comes back, cause I think we can take them with what we will have. They will be super talented, but young. Giles has to be rusty. Kid hasn't played all year with the ACL. Takes time for true freshman to gel. Probably just in time for another FF run for K. Ugh

yeah I would say Duke has gone more all-in on the 1 and done approach than UK at this point

Our boy Goodluck, decided to turn pro and hire an agent. Can't see him being drafted and will more likely become somebody's D-League pet project.

I don't think Duke needed to open up a spot for Bolden by telling Thornton to get lost. Duke was playing with 7 scholarship players for most of the season, and they lose Plumlee while bringing in 5 freshmen.

Seniors: Jefferson, Jones
Juniors: Allen
Sophomores: Kennard, Jeter, Vrankovic
Plus 5 freshmen
Makes 11 scholarships as it stands today
