Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

Just got a text about renewals. Great timing.
The timing does stink. Here many of us are after the Spring Game getting pumped for next season and less than 72 hours this.

In watching the spring game and having had an opportunity to watch practice my two cents is that I like Fran Brown and his staff and the principals they stand upon. They are doing so much to help these kids that I'm blown away. Everyone speaks about family and I'm sure there are other coaches who care but, in my lifetime, I have never been more impressed with a leader of a sports team than I am of Fran. If Trebor gave his word and backed out, then shame on him. Yes, he is a very good player, and he will be missed but not to the point that you back down on someone who breaks their word. I don't wish him anything. Nothing bad and nothing good. He is gone. Period. No need to speculate why or to make excuses for him. The QB, the money this or that. Bottom line is he reneged on his word. Simple as that.
As to his position, Karma has Fran and the team as we are deep and loaded. SU will be fine. Next man up.

All I know is that it I had a job offer and accepted it, but then a few months later another job offer came in for more money, I wouldn't feel right ditching my current job. Not after they went through the hiring process and trained me etc.

I refuse to hire anyone whose resume shows a series of jobs where they stayed 2-3 months and then left in succession.

Their resumes go in the circular file now and aren't even considered for hire.

I tried interviewing some of them and even explained to them their resume is a major red flag. Hiring someone that stays 2 or 3 months is a total waste of my time in training them and waste of the company's money if they only stay a couple months... yada, yada...

I got a lot of deer-in-the-headlights looks and a few others stated they would re-negotiate after a few months if they wanted to stay.

I see A LOT of resumes that fit this bill nowadays.

It stinks when a player is treated so well by the program that developed him breaks his word and leaves late.

But given Trevor’s economic situation and injury history, I understand. This is probably his last chance to make money playing money and the money being offered is too big to turn down.

I wish him the best. Hope that money changes his life forever.

I hope whoever the program is that tampered gets investigated and put on pronation. They broke the rules and need to get shut down. The team should lose scholarships and recruiting privileges and the staff should get banned from coaching college football.
Fran is a master recruiter and he’s always preaching about players and coaches going out and getting paid. I think this just reinforces his message that you come here, work hard and produce you will get your bag. It may even help us recruit Calvin Russell next year

Sucks but you can understand from his perspective. All-ACC is great but given his size he's likely to be a 5th - 7th round draft pick with no guarantee of a long pro career. If he can get a couple hundred grand in the portal for his final year in college, that's going to set him up well in life.

Coach Fran keeps recruiting physical specimens to play wide out. They might be a little raw, but some of these kids (Samuel, Ross, Hornsby, Johnson, the CBA guys) are going to hit.

Okay, let's talk about this. I heard he was already being paid handsomely. Anyone know how much?

If he’s already been paid for this calendar (tax) year why can’t it be clawed back??

There is no loyalty in college sports anymore sadly. It’s all about the size of the bag.
IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!! BYE TREBOR. THE NLI AND WHO HAS THE MOST $ IS RUINING CFB FOOTBALL

I'm not sure how that works, transparency has left much to be desired. NIL is so opaque.

Do we think before he bolted that Trebor was the highest paid player on the team? I’m looking through the roster and don’t see any experienced stars that would have commanded his type of money.

Obviously Ricky and Demetris got paid but do we think any other players were earning more than $500k?

He got his degree (I think) and put up some really good numbers last year. He gets offers for more money after five years of Syracuse and looking at a more run-oriented offense than McCord fest.

I kinda get it. Sucks. But...

Interesting story on Brent axes podcast just now. Reporters were waiting around last night for an hour while some of the leadership type players met with Fran at midfield. Dion Wilson, Macdonald, Duce, Petry, and Peña. Apparently was a heated convo that Trebor walked away from not looking too happy.
Duce may have mentioned that when he got to Baton Rouge he found out Kelly had brought in like eight guys at his position.

Was Pena injured prior to the spring game? If not, found it interesting that he didn’t play. Did he already have a deal in place and asked to sit out to avoid injury?

Also there are written agreements. It’s not like he’s trusting Syracuse’s word. He has a contract with the school/collective. He reneged on it a few months later.

How binding are these contracts? I see players trying to sue coaches and schools for not getting paid, I wonder how long until we see collectives trying to sue players for backing out of deals (sort of like a buyout in coaches contracts)

There were a few guys that were healthy and didnt play, presumably because they showed coaches enough and didn't want injury or tape risks.

I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner. I can’t imagine his stock getting any higher here than it got last year. Lots of unknowns here with a new QB. Might as well cash in elsewhere. He’s also been here for 5 years.

Good news is where pretty stacked at WR
