No, the players didn't start this. We did.
A long time ago, fans of a school said to other fans we want the best back out there and they became "boosters" and loaded a bag full and went on a visit and said to many different players, if you come and play for us this is yours. And to make it even sweeter, you don't even have to go to class we'll fix it with the professors. And they came. From '57 to '67 we had some really good teams.
I know I was there in the sixties. Selling meal tickets for money to anyone who would buy was the game then, but it created a Syracuse University scandal that brought athletes to dorms and dorm food.
Now it's cars, money, girls, and they can't get caught - it's legal and look at my school it's been in the top 25 for 25 years.
It doesn't matter to me anymore to see what's happening - but I have feeling things will change and the bags will stop arriving, when is anyones guess.
