Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

I initially sounded like Elmore was referencing Fran's comments which didn't make sense to me, but apparently he was addressing the fans response. No problem with that. He is sticking up for his boy who is trying to better his situation. We as fans are upset which makes sense for an initial reaction. But the more we find out, I can't blame him if we are talking the numbers being discussed.

You're wrong. and do not know anything about running an offense. Collins is not a pure pocket passer and the slot receiver is not going to get 15 targets a game next year.
Pena didn’t get 15 targets a game last year. He averaged 6.5 receptions per game, so maybe 10 targets.

Elmore is wrong. Fans saying it's all about money are correct. Pena may not like Collins as QB, or what his production might be in the 2025 offense, but he's only leaving because he believes someone will pay him dramatically more than SU.

If he took a lower offer than what SU gave him then Elmore would be right. But we know that's not the case, and would never be the case.

I mean, OF COURSE it's about money.

Speaking of transparency, these guys should just own their actions. I'd actually have respect for Pena if he said "Someone offered me $1.2 million more than I was making at SU. I'd be stupid not to take that."

You know what we do know Elmore? What it is like to work two jobs during the summer and the school semesters while in school. You know what we also know, what it is like to graduate from school with thousands of dollars in loans to pay back. I would agree that we don't know what it is like to make 800k while in school playing a game. Or to have every expense, including the cost of books paid for by someone else.
Honestly if Trebor left because the QB production would be down which Elmore alludes to (and it’s obvious that was likely going to be the case with a 1st year starter coming off a record setting season by McCord), then that to me is more disappointing out of a senior captain than leaving for a big bag of cash. At least the cash if substantially more could be a big step towards generational wealth for his family. But leaving when as a senior leader you have a chance to return the favor presented to you last season and as a vet help elevate a young QB - that just stinks all the way around.

Lots of the story hasn't been told. Trebors side of the story. Where he ends up and what will his NIL amount be. Was there another school offering him before the portal window opened?

Totally agree. It’s a team sport and when the most important player changes the strategy is going to pivot.

Even from a selfish POV it is questionable. Nobody reasonable would expect him to hit the same yardage as with McCord. And from a “getting noticed” or whatever perspective its the YAC and the tough catches that make a receiver. When you catch a dime it’s the QB that looks good. Random dudes tailgating in the RAY lot can catch dimes.

Im not sure that someone IS going to pay him 1.2 mil more like he wants...

I am really hoping that his young agent did not hurt Pena and cause him a loss of $$$$.

Time will tell...

I’ll be honest, I’m disappointed he is leaving but I have no problem with it. Even being captain and agreeing to a new deal. People leave jobs all the time for new higher paid positions, some of them are leadership positions. I’ve kind of said to myself until their is regulations around NIL it’s a crap shoot. If I was in his position, and had an offer for $500k more, I would be gone too and most of you would also. Now the questions is does he have an actual offer

Yes it is about money. 95% of us work for the money. But saying fans portraying him negatively about in the light of being "money hungry" is a different sentiment all together.

Can he really say that? Wouldn't it be tampering? Which happens all the time but still...can he really say that publicly at this point?

What would be the penalty if he said it? I honestly don't know. And I can't imagine the NCAA has the slightest desire to enforce anything at this point.

Pena and Allen were our most reliable receivers last year - think they dropped one ball combined - they were also two of the toughest kids on the team - this is a big loss
its certainly a loss and I think everyone knows that. But what can we do? We're not going to throw huge money at him just because someone else may be apparently. We also have some guys who just may do very well in the slot as well. Probably not quite Pena level at least yet, but be very solid there and improve and build for next year and beyond. And we can hopefully use his money elsewhere to improve the team in other spots for this season.

That was Elmore's characterization. I'm not on Twitter so I don't know what was posted. But if the sentiment was that Pena's decision was all about money, then that's true. Elmore is suggesting his decision was about other things, which is kinda ludicrous.

Pena literally got a better offer that we were unwilling or unable to match.

It's always about the money. Like Rhino said in a follow up tweet, "he is making a decision that is best for him".
And Fran is doing what he thinks is best for the team so it’s become a win-win hasn’t it?

He’s got NY right there in his name!!!
MUST SIGN.

So… is this the “player to be named later” in our WR trade with The Ewe?

If so -

Ill Allow It GIF
We don’t want disloyal players
