I’ve met him in person multiple times and I am not a tall fellow myself. I can’t say for sure but I can promise you he is nowhere near the 6 feet he is listed at lol.

I don't think Fran will ever regret what he said in this interview. The man speaks the truth, sometimes the truth hurts and ALOT of this men need to hear it.

Pena left after making a new deal and taking a leadership role. Fran has every right to say he is not a leader or great teammate...it's the truth.

I'm glad he put it right out there. $2M for a slot receiver who has had 1 injury-free season? It's too much, period.

I suspect he doesn't. The sense I had was that he was making a demand, now that he was captain. If that $2M was real, he should be signing by Monday, right?

I'm starting to wonder if Trebor and his family on poor counsel from an agent or advisor may have overplayed things here.

With Miami, there was instant smoke with Carson Beck and that was settled in like two days tops.

We have a situation here where again, allegedly Miami, yet nothing has popped up otherwise indicating a visit to them or confirmed transfer to them

Not saying he won't end up there, but wherever he ends up he better have it where he gets 80% upfront and the backend is the 20% or he may not get close to the supposed carrot that was dangled in front of him

its certainly a loss and I think everyone knows that. But what can we do? We're not going to throw huge money at him just because someone else may be apparently. We also have some guys who just may do very well in the slot as well. Probably not quite Pena level at least yet, but be very solid there and improve and build for next year and beyond. And we can hopefully use his money elsewhere to improve the team in other spots for this season.

You have to pay a whole team. It's not like he's an all conference QB, a great OT, great edge rusher, or a lock down corner. Those guys get picked first in the draft. They are the difference makers. They are the positions you pay top dollar for.

Pena was a fringe candidate to be drafted if he had declared. Without going through any evaluations his chance to be drafted is zero.
Anyways looks like he is not eligible for the draft because he still has eligibility and he didn’t declare.
Still could try to sign with a team as a free agent, but could probably make more money via NIL.

Pena didn’t get 15 targets a game last year. He averaged 6.5 receptions per game, so maybe 10 targets.

Dude do you realize how good that is. 6.5 receptions per game is 7th best across P5 in receptions. He won't sniff even close to that. Restrepo who he would replace had 15 less catches and I don't think he's near that good or else he would be in the draft.

Can we at least agree that no coach ever in the history of football has said I'm going to build my team and entire offense around a SLOT receiver! Even if he's as good as it gets.

It has never happened and will never happen. He's a piece.

For that extra million I'd take an Edge Rusher and Linebacker that are beasts for 500K a piece or even 4 guys for 250K a pop that can fill the holes we have

Not that she said anything to hint at this at all, but I wonder if Utah could be a possible destination for Pena?

Mrs. Beck who I respected when she was here doesn't know the truth. Bottom line is that Pena reneged on his word. He didn't have to. He could have been straight up and said he would make a call after spring practice, but he didn't. He made a commitment a full commitment. Not a contingent one and he broke his word. At the end of the day, I hope that he makes a great amount of money playing next season for another team. But i also hope that he learns that the way he went about this is wrong and it didnt have to be this way. By all accounts a great kid who made a mistake.

I don’t think he’s going to get the money we were paying him at any other school because we were giving him $$$ because of the stuff I mentioned before.

These kids are getting some really bad advice by agents who simply aren’t very qualified to be agents.

Really hope that his agent didn’t wreck his career and his chance for $$$$$

Exactly. Was just going to say the same. I'm sure Pena and his agent know that the Offense and QB will take a step back. No one is questioning that given there is no way to replicate what McCord did.

They should be more worried about the defense though. There isn't going to be a QB on the field if we're getting the ball rammed down our throats because we have no LB's and holes all over on the defense.

This is why coaches coach and players play. Fran and his staff know where they have depth and holes at every position. They also know how much money they have. Pena and his agent don't.

Actually, I kind of hope the agent did overplay his hand and ruin it for Pena, if that's what went down.

People need to know that the grass isn't always greener, and prices don't always go up. You have to be part of a team.

The NBA is messing itself up over their reaction to the Super Team Era.

This new collective bargaining agreement lets star players get silly money, but because of how the cap is built, if you have a super-max guy, you don't have the money to build a team around him.

Same thing in the NIL Era of college sports. There has to be enough pie for everyone.

I did that a couple times as a boss, back in the 90s. I used to get my people great raises and many promotions, because our part of the business was very profitable, the engine of our company for a few years.

But even when you pay people well, sometimes they want more, and they're not always worth it. Everybody has a price that is their ceiling, to the employer, whether they believe it or not.

there definitely won't be kyle mccord numbers this year. Before it even starts all of us need NOT to compare the two. mccord was literally historic, historic in his numbers in the acc, historic by cuse history and soon to be in the NFL doing great things.

No one should (not saying you are just blabbing here) even begin to hope collins can be as good as mccord. But we CAN hope he's good, real good, let’s say a notch above dungy and shrader. If he's that good we'll be ok, meaning competetive in most every game.

So have we received official confirmation that he's actually in the portal? Usually there's some sort of report saying a player has actually entered...all we've heard was that he intended to. And radio silence since
