The Colts traded his right to the Broncos. That was the subject of that great 30 for 30 elway to Marino. Kelly went to the usfl but eventually signed with the bills who drafted him.

The Raiders tried to execute a three-team trade that would have sent Howie Long to the Chicago Bears and John Elway to L.A. Owner Al Davis was convinced that Commissioner Pete Roselle conspired against and ultimately stopped it. As much as I love anti Raiders conspiracy talk they still had the chance to draft Marino later and passed on him.
