Turning the Court? Really? Give me your thoughts...

I have a hard time believing that the reason they won't move the court is because of some theme parties in Manhattan with B+ tops type of entertainment. You can have that any night there anyway.

Reality is UEO was never going anyway. Oh Lord

The fact is this: Aside from diehard Syracuse fans, NO ONE is going to care about a basketball game in Syracuse that weekend. The media will be tripping over themselves looking for new stories, and new angles, about the NYC Super Bowl. And don't forget: NYC is the media capital of the world. The NYC media set the national agenda for media coverage.

CTO - I think that's really overstated. In the dead of winter sports on TV is king. Having the Knicks-Heat at MSG is just another part of that TV show that we'll lead into. If anything the tip time is a bummer but I get the viewing rationale. Duke always gets the eyeballs and we do too.

As long as we have Jay Bilas courtside we're more than fine.

If you have a say - Texans-Seahawks SuperBowl, well good luck making the media bigs or Joe Sixpack NY sports fan care about any of those people. It's not always Giants-Pats.

Bayside... have you ever been to a Super Bowl? I have. The festivities literally take over the town. Huge corporate entertaining. Huge celebrity presence, huge civic and citizen interest. It becomes one big party. It has been said that Super Bowl Sunday has become the equivalent of a national holiday ... and no where is that more apparent than in the locale where it is being played.

i am a bit shocked by CTO's position on this. her reputation is as one of the most generous people on this board and im sure its true. i really think this doesn't matter for one game. who cares if it is during the super bowl weekend. i think theyll put a lot of people in the dome for this regardless. i already have emails with my college buddies going trying to get a group to go.

further, i think its a bit self-centered to say the season ticket holders interests should be taken over others in ALL situations. i do understand your rationale. however, i cannot live in syracuse because of my employment situation. if i could, i would. i travel to multiple games every year, to away games, and try to make tournament games. i don't think you're a better fan because you can afford courtside seats and that every accomodation should be made to make you most comfortable, versus staging a one time big event that includes more people.

again, i DO understand the argument, but i respectfully disagree.

If we ever did this, I wouldn't want it to be for Duke or NC as if we're some piddly program grateful for the kings of college basketball gracing us with their presence. I don't want them feeling special when they come into our building. I would want it to be for the return of Georgetown, our most traditional rival and the team that I will always hate the most.

Let's just put some bleachers up in the sun and hold it out on Interstate 81

I have never said "season ticket holders interests should be taken over others in ALL situations."

I believe I mentioned the prospective unfairness to season ticket holders ... as ONE point in a post that contained seven reasons why I am opposed to this idea. I also said it doesn't make a bit of difference to me personally because my seats would essentially be where they are now, no matter what they do with the court. I was merely defending the 15,000 or so season ticket holders who have supported this program, through thick and thin, for many decades. To me, it is a matter of basic fairness... that their seats not be marginalized because of a gimmick.

ehh, im not buying it. taking away home football games to play them in the meadowlands is not fair. having different seats for one game when season ticket holders can probably be reasonably accomodated, a quote from a former AD applies.

our greatest rival ever was Georgetown, and the feeling was mutual.

We never "turned the court" for the Hoyas.

Duke will never see us as their top rival, even if, as proposed, we drop our panties for them on the first date.

i buy this argument more. i don't want to come off as a juvenile program. that is my only concern. that being said, we shouldnt take ourselves too seriously. these are 18-22 year old kids playing hoops.

Football games were NOT moved to the Meadowlands AFTER season ticket holder bought tickets for the games, believing they would be held at the Dome. They were announced as Meadowland games BEFORE the tickets went on sale. Big difference. Basketball season ticket holders have already purchased their tickets for this season, believing they would see Duke, UNC, whomever... from the seats they were purchasing.

1st of all theyre not taking anything any football games away.

these are in addition to home slate.

moving the court, for what would be the best game of the year, and giving all your season ticket holders worse seats or telling them to buy 1 off the package...is a horrendous idea.

i see what you are saying about the lack of "upfrontness". i got screwed by an eye Dr. today. i have a $10 copay for my exam. the Dr. asked if i wanted daily contacts. she said i should try them. i was hesistant at first stating i liked my oasys ones. she convinced me. literally, she handed me a sample that i put in myself. no further consult. they hit me with a $75 fee for a contact fitting. i was aghast.

if the seats are comparable, then i think its fine, even if they are slightly different/worse than usual. if they changed your viewpoint, like midcourt to behind the basket, or level from first to second, then id agree.

Is this a serious analogy?

Is this a serious analogy?

I mean... I thought it was going to be sunny and 80 outside today... Then I woke up, it was 60, windy and smokey. I totally understand what everyone is saying

;)

I understand catering to season ticket holders. But you have to consider the overall imact of a game like this.

1. It could generate interest beyond the typical fan base and attract new season ticket holders.

2. As if the national attention isn't already going to be high. This will guarantee it to garner attention before and well after te game.

3. You are all assuming as a season ticket holder your sets will be awful. There are ways to do things properly that may work for everyone.

4. Recruiting. Can you imagine the impact if you bring your highest targets for the next 3 years to a game with 50k people.

5. Not everyone can be a season ticket holder based on distance. Many of us have our destination games, and like it or not single game ticket buyers still contribute a ton to the program. Through donations, merchandise, and concessions. Quite frankly single game attendees will likely contribute more in merch in one game then mt season ticket holders do annually.

6. An event like this will force Dr. Gross to make other upgrades at the dome that will impact all other games positively.

Are there negatives Absolutely. My recommendation would be to wait until year 2 or 3 so everyone who does hold season tickets gts to experience the Dukes and UNC of the world in the traditional fashion and then we could test out this concept.
1. First off, why? And you're suggesting you'll be able to sell more but worse season tickets just because the arena now holds more people?
2. I think this whole attention thing is over rated. I really doubt more people will watch Duke vs Syracuse just because there will be more people in attendance.
3. There really is no way to do this properly that would "work for everyone". Both end zones would be worse than any seat currently in the Dome.
4. Do we really need to improve recruiting? What's the upsell, "we used to be the biggest but now we're the biggest by even more. And 35,000 people would look empty in the Dome.
5. I would think the destination game would be any game that is NOT played in the big set up so you can get vastly better seats.
6. Why?

Windy and smoky? I don't believe you.

You live in Alaska. You guys sunbathe anytime it's over 45. :D

Is this a serious analogy?

sure why not. some people are crying about different seats at the dome they werent told about. im crying about being charged $75 for something i wasnt told about.

ill acknowledge the analogy wasn't a "value add" ..ha

CTO - I've been to political conventions in many cities and those cities (SD, Philly, Minny, Tampa - 3 Super Bowl cities) were swallowed up by them. Been to the GOP in 2004 in NYC and it barely registered, the city just swallowed it up.

NYC isn't a lot of the cowtown types of places (Indy, etc) that host Super Bowls. And it's not like the game s even in Manhattan.

I wonder if there is a correlation between people opposed to turning the court and those opposed to SU FB at metlife.

Big Monday against ND? Would they really turn the court and have a game that ends at 8:30 on a Saturday, be followed up by a big Monday game less than 48 hrs later? Enuff time to change court back to normal? That's hard to swallow.

I really don't care if they do it if I'm compensated seat-wise. But I am of the opinion that DUKE isn't worth it. Then how do you top it? What about the next time Georgetown comes to town? Or if we know of jim b's last game?

Why wouldn't there be a correlation? In many cases it is the same people supporting both programs.
