Sorry, while you might be right Sgt, these are assumptions that might not hold true this year.

We just don't know right now. Not to mention, Rak coming or going probably had very little to do with Roberson's decision.
Roberson offers so much different a game than Rak does or had the potential to do. Tyler, while a great defensive player on the high school level, is touted as a guy that gives us much for offensive potential than most of our forwards coming in the past few seasons aside from Kris Joseph. Even CJ was not yet this versatile on the offensive side of the ball. And I do realize it might look like I myself am making an assumption, but we shall see. This guy is going to get his share of baskets this year, and for that, we should all be excited for this prospect. I honestly don't care how the minutes break down, but I am looking forward to having a 6'8 to 6'9 offensive weapon that, aside from CJ, we were lacking this past season.

Agree about the rebounding especially. He made bigger, higher ranked players according to the "experts" look like fools on the glass this year. Probably one of the best rebounders we've had since the days of DC.

The problem with not having two centers play together is that the 3 of them would have just 40 minutes to split. That's why I think JB starts Rak, it gives the 3 of them 45+ mpg to split. It also gives up the somewhat inconsequential early minutes with a lineup that is not ideal.

Starting Rak also makes sense in terms of long range planning for Roberson. In -14-'15 there will probably be Grant and McCollough ahead of Roberson. Roberson would still get more minutes by being the third forward. Rak and DC2 could then split the 40 at center. in '15-'16 Robes is a stud starter and we will all just hope he stays around for his senior year.
 
Grant, Fair, and Roberson will be the best forward rotation in the history of Cuse hoops. Absolutely awesome!

While Rak's decision may not have had much influence on Roberson's decision, it will probably affect the amount of PT he gets this coming year. Roberson probably knows, as most frosh coming into SU do, that PT will not be plentiful. Just like MCW, Dion, and Grant before him. The plan is to have people pay their dues.

Roberson may have the most offensive potential of any forward in some time, just as DC2 had the most offensive potential of any center - ever- at SU. But without the D, just ask DC2 how much PT that gets you.

Be patient, the guy will be good. I just don't expect to see that much of him this coming year.

The frontcourt options and how they workout are the most intriguing to me. If CJ grows into a legit 3 than Roberson probably won't play much, but if CJ's game is still mainly 15ft and in than I see Roberson playing more. Grant will play the 4, but if CJ can't space the floor than we can't play two bigs, which means CJ slides to the 4 and Roberson plays the 3 when Grant is off the floor.

The Battle between Rak and DC2 at the 5 is also very intriguing. If DC2's defense doesn't improve he won't play. He has to be able to protect the rim, Rak needed to bring energy and effort on both ends of the court. Baye's defense will guarantee his playing time if he can consistently finish around the rim he may eat up more minutes than we expect.

But besides, from the bolded part, you really don't expect much from him this year?
How many videos are on the recruiting side that prove otherwise? Complete games!
Wow, you've got to watch some and if you did, I cannot believe you don't think he will contribute significantly. Seriously, no disrespect, but I have watched hours upon hours, some live of this guy, and I can't believe you don't see immediate offense.

This is not optimism. It is just plain obvious.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tyler show similarities to Wes Johnson, CJ Fair, and Warrick all at the same time. He really has a nice confident fast release like some of our better shooting sf's. If he ever learns to explode off the dribble in his first few steps he could be a stud.

He's not as athletic as Wes Johnson or Hakim Warrick, if you ask me. He's got a great motor and is a hard working kid. The old-time Orangeman he most reminds me of is Ryan Blackwell. Not outrageous athleticism, but a very fundamentally sound player, nice soft hands, active motor, not afraid to mix it up around the rim. Tyler is a lot like Blackwell, if you ask me.

Rony Seikaly was a great offensive center. So was Bill Smith. Even Etan Thomas was pretty good by his junior/senior year. Arinze shot almost 70% from the floor and Rick Jackson averaged a double double.

DC2 has a long ways to go to match them, but I agree he has the skills. Hopefully the game slows down for him this year. That's a huge thing, for us to have a low-post threat again to open up the floor.

Maybe by February. This could be a pretty good call on your part. It all depends on Grant. Picking Roberson to beat out Grant is a ballsy call. Grant is being set up for success this season with him being on the U-19 team and getting the foreign tour. But Roberson is a meat-and-potatoes kind of player who just gets it done.

Who does Roberson remind you of? You go back about as long as I do.

Do you see what I'm saying with the Blackwell comparison (mostly below the rim kind of player, nice mid-range game, not overwhelming speed but makes the right play, plays good defense, rebounds well for his size, decent handle, decent outside shot for a guy his size). Love to hear your take on him.
 
Here's my point. Last year, I had people telling me I was high, this and that when 99% were down and out and still didn't give you the I told you so. I don't really want to bookmark this. Too lazy. I'll do it later! :)

I would much rather us all be on the same page from the beginning. Feels good! You know, like these guys?
So, can we just say that this will be an amazing season, regardless of who starts, who gets 35+ minutes, etc?

But Rony and Etan were not McD's. I was responding to Tee's point about coming in with potential. I know Fab and Rak came in high in the recruiting rankings also, but that wasn't based on the offensive potential like DC2.

It seemed as though Tee was implying that the great potential would get him PT. I was countering that DC2 had/has great potential, so that alone clearly doesn't guarantee playing time.

Keita was our best center for most of last year, but especially for the 2nd half of the year. The zone was its best with him in there. Rak was good at the back of the press (which we kind of dropped later in the year). But Keita has been our best center overall for the last year.

I thought one of you was saying that potentially DC2 has the most offensive skills of any center we've had at SU. He might, but we have had some very good offensive centers over the years, despite not really running our offense through them, for the most part.

I've watched a lot of him too although not as much as you, but let's see how he adjusts to college and the zone first. He is a great talent but CJ a senior and Grant is a bigger stronger more athletic guy. I see Roberson as 3 only next year and CJ has that spot on lock Roberson will get some time and do some great things but he is not a one and done guy so he will have to wait his turn a bit. That said practice maybe better than most of the games next year it will be a great year at least with the 3, 4, and 5 spots.

To be honest, I think he has more of Wes than Blackwell. More athletic than Blackwell. Again, please watch some full games. Maybe I'm spoiled in that I get these On Demand in NJ, but the guy dominates above the rim. Made someone going to Kentucky, listed now at 7'1 lol look like a child. It's all there. State Chip on the line, the numbers don't lie and the thread is there, but he embarrassed the guy.

I don't know how many times I have brought that up, but the fact never changed!
Sorry for the rant, but the guy is a lot more athletic than people think, and destroyed his section in blocks and rebounds, the next closest was way, way behind. This is up against the best teams in the state.

His AAU coach, Kyrie Irving's coach would disagree with you about the one and done, but I doubt he's here more than two years. And also, just to mention, RC did play a 2-3 often this year, but I know...not the same as ours. :)

Rak isn't a great player. Roberson skill set is far superior. Rak is a role player and that's as far as it goes. Roberson is a star.

Roberson is a better athlete than Blackwell but I like the meet and potatoes comparison.
