UConn Coming (2 and 2)

Math says you are wrong. There are a handful of big programs handing out cash. They are taking 1-2 G5 teams a year. That still leaves a ton of other G5 teams that need 1-2 P5 OOC games. The G5 needs more inventory to complete their OOC schedule tgan the entire P5 can fulfill.
This is true.
There are 130 FBS football teams.
65 teams in the P5.
That leaves 65 teams not in a major conference.

The Big Ten, Pac-12, Big 12 play 9 conference games. Those 42 teams only have 126 nonconference slots.

The SEC and ACC play 8 conference games. Those 28 teams have 112 nonconference slots.

The G5 need the P5 for nonconference games.
Syracuse can find G5 teams that need home games from P5 teams and find good 2 for 1s.
NC State bailed on Central Michigan that is how we stepped in played them on the road in 2014 when they needed a home game and got the 2 for 1.

Good schedulers would find these type of schools and negotiate good deals.
We do things poorly as far scheduling goes.
I swear I could train someone to meet with the HC find out what they want and do this.
I give Wildhack credit he has done a good job overall and we have a lot of 7 home game seasons coming up.
The Liberty series helped that a lot.
The Nd home game from the ACC rotation helped as well.

The UConn 2 for 2 was a bad deal.

Goal is to schedule 7 home games three out of evey four years. Mission accomplished in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025. Jury is out on 2024 with one FBS game left to schedule. 2026 is locked with 6 home games.
Georgia State is available...
2-for-1 + some cash should be doable.

Calling Herman now...

Hint, don’t ask Tennessee about them. ;)

already did. Mac sunbelt cusa all better options. As is half the AAC. I know you are that dense that you need actual teams and dates listed.
Playing games within our recruiting area is always better. We constantly have people complaining we don't recruit our close radius well.

No one East of the Hudson in the NYC area is getting there in 90 mins. No one in NYC itself or Ling Island is either. Even coming from West Chester is a PIA with the Connecticut traffic.

I said 2 hours for some people. But if that’s too far, we can start scheduling games with Old Dominion and Kent State. They’re just around the corner.

They only one this deal if you can predict that
UConn needs interesting home football games. UConn fans will be more interested in watching UConn play Syracuse at home than they will seeing Middle Tennessee or Frenso State coming to Storrs.

I get what you are saying but again UConn won this deal.
They only won this deal if you can predict the future and that we dont cancel one of their games without penalty.

The only way we won’t play UConn 4 games is if the ACC switches to 9 conference games.
We aren’t going to cancel the series for any other reason.
UConn won this deal. It was bad negotiating.

Just because you keep saying doesn't make it true.

I'm not a big fan of playing UConn at all, but if we are going to, we might as well get a few wins and cement our schedule.

Well that is part of the issue. If you wait till the end you are left with few options and need to agree to 2 and 2. That is a poor job by the AD.
You realize pending and delayed Dome renovations threw a huge kink into planning? This was the biggest issue that SUAD had to overcome.

Syracuse has more leverage than UConn.
Has less a need of nonconference games than UConn.
One team is a P5 league the other isn’t.
UConn got a 4 game home/home.
Please tell me how Syracuse won this deal and it was good negotiations.
Common objective analysis says UConn won the deal. My god you think I want to say this?
We made a bad deal.

Again, just because you keep saying it doesn't make it true.

It's your opinion. We get it. We got it the first 3 times.

Your response is so badly worded am I not sure what point you are attempting to make.

It sounds like you are saying there are openings on MAC schools for games with P5 schools.

No one disputes that. You nailed it. Good job.

I am saying I don’t think there are 2 for 1s out there with MAC schools that we could have scheduled instead of UConn.

I am saying if we must schedule 1 for 1 or 2 for 2 series with G5 schools. I would rather do it with schools in areas close to our fan base, preferably areas that we also recruit players from. And I want to play schools we are going to beat the vast majority of the time.

Whether you like it or not, UConn checks all those boxes.

The SUAD is scheduling using logic. What they are doing is putting the program in the best possible position to win games and get in bowl games. They are scheduling to help recruiting and help the fan base be able to see the team play.

That is what they should be doing. I am sorry you don’t seem capable of understanding this.

Again, just because you keep saying it doesn't make it true.

It's your opinion. We get it. We got it the first 3 times.
So again please tell me an opinion how we didn’t lose this deal?

300
It’s better than the spin this series was well done by the AD.
If people admited the truth and just said we like the games anyway there wouldn’t be much debate.

So again please tell me an opinion how we didn’t lose this deal?

If financially we are worse off, which doesn't seem to be the case, and if we lose the actual football game, which hasn't happened yet.

I'm still trying to figure out (not from you) how getting to Hartford for NYC and Boston people is harder than playing a C-USA or SunBelt team.

So again please tell me an opinion how we didn’t lose this deal?
Pretty sure I made my opinion clear above on this page.

But tell us all again how we "lost" this deal. We get 4 probable wins. It's a G5(ish) school. The road games are within easy driving distance for a large number of alumni and fans. We are locked in to 4 games for 4 years (if we don't have to get out of the contract). People complain about scheduling and this addresses games over multiple years.

Financially we can’t lose the deal.
These contracts always dictate that each road teams gets the same amount of money.
When one side has more leverage than the other then negotiating shouldn’t be as hard. We don’t know need UConn. We should have been able to dictate better terms. They need us more than we need them. A 3 for 2 should have been able to be achieved.

You realize pending and delayed Dome renovations threw a huge kink into planning? This was the biggest issue that SUAD had to overcome.

1. we have been late to the party OOC for over 10 years

2. Dome might alter where or when you play but you still have to schedule someone. Zero excuse to not have a plan.

How did we lose the deal?
This has been explained. If i say it again people will bitch about the same things being said.

Pretty simple. UConn needs games more than Syracuse does.
UConn football isn’t a draw.
Thus they aren’t appealing. They need 12 games scheduled we need 3 per year.
They need games after September we don’t as that is where most conference games are played.
UConn got us to play them in November at their place.
On top of that not only did they get a home/home they got 4 games.
We don’t need them. We should have been able to negotiate a better deal.
If they wouldn’t agree to a better deal you walk away.

I'd be all in that...we play GTech twice every 12 years. Not bad to play in ATL more. Kennesaw St IIRC will be upgrading soon. Offer them a 2 for 1 if GA St won't play ball.

no they don’t. Conn has very few recruits. It isn’t close for the majority of the fan base. I want SU to do exactly as you State. We are on the same page with the logic. I just get that you don’t understand that UConn fits NONE of that.

it isn’t easier. UConn is an unattractive road trip for the die hards. On top of that it is a place we have been a ton already and has nothing around it to do. For the non die hards they are not traveling from the NYC or Boston areas to see that game. Playing UConn is throwing a bone to maybe 500 fans. That shouldn’t outweigh the more attractive locations or better recruiting locations that other schools can offer.

We play once every 12 years in GA. Same in South Florida. VA is once every 6 years. These are all areas where we should be playing more games to take advantage of the ACC footprint. Ohio is surrounded by ACC teams. Adding games OOC in that State all of a sudden makes SU more local.

Was UConn series a homerun? No

I wouldn't call it an abject failure either. It wasn't a 2-1-1 or a 2-1. However, SU gets a closeby game they have the option to bus to. I expect we'll bring a minimum of 3-5,000 fans. We have a history with Yukon. We generally don't like most of their fans. They are down and I expect about a 95% chance we win all 4 games. SU gets some scheduling flexibility with Yukon. If Yukon actually gets a bit better they might even bring 1000 fans to Syracuse. Yukon is a great place for visitors to tailgate at...very easy. Finally, most of our fan base to include CNY can easily do the drive.

Sal for an OOC game it is close. Hell it is closer than ANY ACC team. 3.5 to 4.5 hrs from CNY, less from the Tri-State and New England.
