UConn Coming (2 and 2)

Bingo
Millhouse or you need to create a post which outlines what people can and can’t complain about.
When that is created I follow the rules.
Till then whatever.

My concerns are laid out. It’s terrible negotiating. That is part of football scheduling. Not everything is awesome just because Wildhack does it.

Please acknowledge that Wildhack and Babers have a better pulse on the program and vision for how, what, when, and where they need to focus attention to rebuild SU football.

I understand why you dislike the deal. But for whatever reason, Wildhack and Babers are O.K. with this deal.

You don't think Dino had a say in this. With the contract he signed, I would think the AD would consult with him.

They're hand in glove with this stuff.

I like the poster a lot who disagrees, I just don't see what the terrible negotiating part is. Maybe we can wear our home unis in Connecticut, that's show them who's boss...

End of the day they are going to schedule very winnable low stress non conference games.

It’s not ideal but it’s just not something I can imagine getting too worked up over.

You’re entitled to your opinion, you don’t have to take it so personally.

I’m someone who recently said I think we’re ready to put big boys back on the OOC schedule.

Serious question - all these posts you're making are about one extra or less game? I know there is residual feelings about UConn that some ( KaiserUEO ) still weirdly hold...

Like sutomcat says, we promise a home gate of 38K or so for some MAC / C-USA type, so not sure what type of hand we have in 2-1 type of games.
Syracuse was THROWN a bone by Bobby Bowden and had to go to Mizzou for a 1 off.

storz st just went Indy.

And didn’t we once have 2 1AAs???

LET THEM FEEL THE PAIN OF NOT HAVING A FULL SCHEDULE.

To hell with idiots who didn’t go D1 football in 1985

They went D1 in football in 2003. 1985 they would probably in the Big Ten or ACC now.

Hit the Jack early tonight?

Just another point of view:

If UConn drops to FCS, we have that slot filled, or we cancel the games. These contracts usually have a buy out clause. Dropping below the threshold for a P-5 team is a part of the deal, meaning that UConn has a duty to stay eligible to play SU. (Conversely, this is true of SU staying eligible to play UConn, but let's be honest, it probably is NOT going to happen.)

I agree that finding a replacement opponent late in the game is difficult, but doable.

Your last comment says it all. Beating UConn back into the stone age should be a fun time for all SU fans.
I would think that JW has it covered.

Hit the Jack early tonight?
Well, after 6 hours of wrestling... 2 of which were nothing, as all the out of state and far Jersey kids whose dads paid an extra $10 to weigh in ‘late’ happened...then straight to 2 basketball games...one where I dropped the wrestler off at the door in his singlet and now flip flops as the wife met him with his uniform and sneakers...and the other where I had my assistant pick up my daughter and the basketballs and start us up, and when it’s over to walk in the door to my little guy saying ‘daddy will u play with me?’ To which the answer was ‘sure, I just need a glass of water’...as I moved the shot glasses out of the way and poured 15 ounces of tequila into a beer mug.

so to answer your question...no, the Jack arrived on time for tip-off, but I had to alter the pregame...

We RUINED the potential of our best team & QB in a decade (2012) by doing exactly that -
3 OOC P5 games.

That’s GROSS.

four. Northwestern, usc, Minnesota, Missouri

The only problem with the 2012 schedule was taking the paycheck game at Missouri.
We played 7 conference games including Temple which was in its first year from leaving the MAC.

Then we had USC, Minnesota, and Northwestern and a tomato can scheduled.
The nonconference schedule was fine when 2 of those games were going to be in friendly space for our team.
NW at the Dome and USC at MetLife.

Gross took a paycheck from Missouri because we needed the money and we lost a game that was supposed to be with TCU on the schedule. WVU and TCU bolted the Big East so we needed a game.
If we didn’t play Missouri in 2012 we play TCU. Which would have been a harder game.

We scheduled a good schedule for 2012. It was just we didn’t have Pugh to start the season and the team/refs screwed up the NW game.

The USC game we just got outtalented.
Minnesota was the only WTH loss.

Let’s be honest we agreed to 2-2 because we are well behind in our future schedules and needed to agree. There are easily a dozen G5 teams that more sense to schedule.

Who are these dozen?

Who are these dozen?

I post them every time there is a “should we play UConn” thread. Uconn is a short trip and easy win. They do nothing for recruiting and it is unattractive road trip for the majority of our fans.

It's Herm. He's got to be the only holdover left from the Gross years and he's still behind schedule on the schedule-making. We've been dealing with this problem for a decade. It's not going to get any better while he's managing the process.

I will say that guarantees matter too. Bigger programs can seemingly buy their way out of schedule problems. We may have had something lined up with other G5 schools only for them to sign for bigger money with a SEC/B1G team. Arkansas State got almost $3 million from Bama for a guarantee game last year or the year before.

Post whatever you want. I'm just saying that I felt nothing when I first read about the games.

It's one less game that I won't be able to give away. Maybe they feel bad about UConn's situation and did them a favor. I'm just sharing my opinion that I'm not concerned.

Your second sentence is the whole story. We are scheduling an uncomplicated win in an otherwise competitive schedule. No other MAC / C-USA game will change any dynamic of that for the better on any level.

No one is addressing the most important question: Did we just legitimize UConn's football program?

They have home and homes with Illinois (2018/20), Purdue (2021/25), BC (2022/23), NC State (2022/23), Duke (2023/24), and UNC (2026/27). I doubt that playing Syracuse a few times will change the balance of power in the Northeast.

Agreed - I’m surprised we didn’t get one of the away games split at YS.

I hope we at least got some WBB games out of this. (I assume we aren’t going to get “free” home MBB games, and I’m not sure what else UConn could give us that we’d want.)
Maybe YS didn't want the game. Last year UConn only averaged ~9000 butts in the seat at their games and we certainly wouldn't fill the stadium.

UConn delegitimized themselves by neutering their football program when they went independent and dropped out of the AACK. Playing home and home series won't change that fact. They will find it difficult to remain competitive without some unique affiliation like Notre Dame, Army and BYU has.

Here is a quick table I threw together looking at OCC schedules for the next 10 years for a bunch of schools, mostly from the East.

It assumes schools will play a FCS opponent at home every season. That means worst case, ACC schools have 3 openings to fill and B1G schools have 2.

SchoolSyracuseBCPittRUPSUUMWF
2020
2021
2022
2023
20241111
2025121
20262112
202722111
2028322211
20292232232

I think we are finally at a point now where our long term schedule is in relatively good shape. After tge 6 game home schedule of 2020, we are going to play a 7 game home schedule 4 of the next 5 years. That is unheard of for Syracuse and a great step forward for the program.

BC and WF, despite playing in relatively small stadia, have the fewest holes on their future schedules. They are also scheduled to play less 7 game home seasons that we are.

Pitt and Rutgers are in the worst shape. Rutgers is in last place in everything, as usual.

I don’t see our peer schools loading up on 2 for 1s. That tells me they probably aren’t out there.

Penn State can do this, mostly fueled by home only games. They are in fact scheduled to play 4 OOC games away in the next 8 years. For them, it is a question of whether they all 3 OOC games at home or just 2. About half the time, they will play no OCC games on the road.

plenty other choices that are easy wins and in better recruiting grounds.
