UConn/SHU

Blaney coached in place of JC a several years ago vs. us, and UConn still beat the crap out of us, IIRC. This loss is not because JC wasn't on the bench.

I'm not suggesting that JC on the bench would have won them the game. I'm simply saying that not all of their grit and attitude last year was because of Kemba alone. It all starts with the coach. They still need someone to step up on the floor, but to say they lost their will to win based on this game is a reach. They play harder when the head guy is stalking the bench. They still would have lost, but they wouldn't have looked like schmucks doing so.

Loose officiating or not, thats an ass kicking.
I agree. I hate the "auto excuse" for a beat down

~ the refs were bad
~ JC wasn't on the bench
~ Sullinger was hurt and didn't play

UConn really still had Lamb and Drummond in when SHU had its walk-ons? Really?

"will to win", I wouldn't say that (and didn't).

I just said that SHU came out and knocked them in the mouth by playing them tough/physical, and UConn didn't respond very well. Could be because JC wasn't there, but I really didn't see anyone on the UConn team that was stepping up to the physical play.

Lamb was the only one making shots, but I wouldn't call him a physical player.

There's a reason I haven't heard anyone other than Sullinger. Same with UConn and Lamb. I've heard of Drummond, but watching tonight he's horrible.

Both are one man shows. If you take Lamb and Sullinger out of those teams, you have a great shot at beating them.
:You keep running that same line. Learn who is on Ohio St. by watching a game. You will see they are far from a one man team.

He's not a physical player. And he clearly is not the leader that Kemba was. They need Napier to step up and be that guy. Right now there is no one to compliment Lamb on the perimeter. I agree that they didn't get off the mat and fight, but I think they would have fought harder with JC barking at them. Just my opinion.

interesting commentary, or actually lack of it by announcers, concerning Syracuse its #1 ranking and having blown out Seton Hall...I am wondering if BE prefers 'Cuse not to be talked about a whole lot...also, Pope and Theodore had good games...so either they were very off against 'Cuse or we are just so damn good...CT not so much but I believe when JC comes back they will get better...also, wonder if Drummond knows who Pope is now

I agree...diebler was huge for them
Don't forget Lighty. 5th year senior that really steadied that team.

OSU is still a talented bunch, but I think Sullinger is a little over-hyped.

No offense, but you need to watch more CBB if you have never heard of Aaron Craft or Buford or Deshaun Thomas etc. And I don't believe that you don't know the whole Uconn roster. They play in the same conference as your favorite team.

Napier killed UCONN all night. I lost count the number of times he tried to penetrate and coughed up the ball. He's not as good as he thinks he is.

Pope was 7-20 from the field for his 15 w 6 boards. Drummond was 2-5 with 6 boards; he stuffed pope twice that I recall. The hall crushed uconn tonight, lots of info for JC to work with, but that dominance was mostly on the perimeter, popes game was decent, but more volume than anything.

Are you going to run over to the boneyard and brag about our 8 page thread about UConn?

;)

And I agree, Pope wasn't that dominant for most of the game. He had some moments at the end of the first half. 7-20 for an inside player isn't much to brag about. I'm genuinely excited to see Fab and Drummond go against each other.

Nah, I leave what's here, here. And what's there there. I only called out the Uconn posts here when we were labeled rutgers obsessed :).

You guys are right to enjoy our struggles and revel in your success, but this loss showed uconns floor which we knew was low with our youth, ceiling remains unchanged.

I agree with the Husky fan. As we all know, What losses happen to great teams all the team. We could just as easily go out and lose to Providence tomorrow night. It doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot as long as it doesn't become a trend (a la Pitt).

You're not really struggling, and you'll be fine. The only good thing to ever happen to UConn when Blaney has coached them was in 2003 when he "discovered" Hilton Armstrong. Your ceiling is high. Fortunately, we play young guys too, and I agree with Kris Joseph that Syracuse hasn't scratched the surface of what it can do.

Now if you go and lose to Rutgers, you have problems.

Observations: Seton Hall is a very good team and is certainly one of the big surprises of the year in college basketball. Uconn was overhyped after the news came out that Drummond was going to attend this year. If you remember, once that came out most of the media immediately had Uconn move ahead of Cuse in the projections for the year.

Uconn has some talented players but they also have some problems on several levels. They lost a game to Central Fla. and have escaped several other games which they could have very easily lost. As we all know, anything can happen in the BE on any given night but I'd bet that the Cuse eats Uconn alive this year.

Uconn looked lost for a good portion of the game tonight and the absence of Jim Calhoun, although perhaps part of the problem for the poor play, is not alone responsible for what was seen tonight.

Thats fitting. See, generally while we hate UConn with a burning passion, dammit, we respect you.

Nobody respects Rutgers.

Like college football, I don't give a crap about anyone other than SU. If my team's not in it, I don't watch it. Even big games like the Super Bowl don't get my attention unless a team I care about is playing in it. Part of that is because I'm not a big NFL fan, though.

There are rare occasions when I do. Like tonight I watched the UCT - SH game. Only because there was an upset looming.

That's fine, but don't make comments about teams you obviously know nothing about.

Amen. I have a hard time taking anyone seriously who doesn't know big name players on nationally relevant teams like Uconn and Ohio State.

As was said after our win the other night...Seton Hall is a pretty good team.
Two major differences between tonight's game and the thrashing we gave them.
Theodore was hitting.
And - most importantly - they could not deal with our zone.

It may be a lot different when we play UConn.
Calhoun knows how to play against the 2-3 and has them ready.

I know that OSU has lost twice. Once without their best player. That's enough to tell me that Sullinger carries the team.
