UNC Game Thread...

On the ropes numerous times, never quit and made a game out of it. Somehow, the pace of the game seemed to favor UNC. I really don't know, after about 28 games, what offense we run. There is too much dribbling and probing for an opening by G, Richardson, and Cooney. We never get it into the blocks early in the shott clock, even as a decoy for a kickout. I guess the sure-fire path to the HOF is play 12 creampuffs every year before conference play, because I just don't see high level coaching the last 2 years in league games.
There's dribbling and probing b/c we don't have anyone to throw it to on the low block .

Played hard but just made too many dumb mistakes to beat a top 10 team on the road. Did we set a record for offensive fouls in this game?

Eh, tough loss - felt like UNC was trying to hand it to us. They remind me of Maryland, everyone loves them, but they seem all over the place.

Mali had a ROUGH game - gotta recognize that those drives are going nowhere. At least not with attempts to finish like that around the rim.

Passing was pretty bad all-around for a decent amount of the game.

I wonder if it's tough to get in a rhythm with Roy Boy's rotations. They played 11 guys tonight, 9 of them consistently.

Everything is tough against UNC. I'm amazed we were only -6 on the glass. Roberson stepped it up tonight, and DC had 6 rbs in 9 minutes (they whistled him every time a UNC player cam near him). But UNC is deep, talented, long and experienced. The game was close because we stole the ball a lot and both teams shot it poorly from outside. They shrugged it off and went inside. They lead the nation (major college) in points in the paint ... so it really doesn't matter what you do against them .. they have an answer.

One thing stood out to me ... we struggled to get ball movement and good shots against their defense. Against our zone, they moved it very well ... 17 assists on 28 made field goals! G is an amazing player but 1-7 from outside and 7 TO's isn't going to get it done against a team like that.

I didn't realize Cooney was a magician. He disappeared in the 2nd half. 1-7 from the field in the 2nd half if I recall correctly. But Malachi was the main factor in the loss. What was he thinking? And Howard didn't help much. How many times is he going to have the ball stolen from him from behind? Freshman mistakes. G had 7 assists (good) but 7 turnovers (terrible). Team had 9 assists and 15 turnovers. Terrible. Roberson came back from recent poor performances to play very well. The positive is that the team played hard and put themselves in position to steal the game. The loss won't hurt the chances of making the tournament but certainly puts the pressure on the team to win on Saturday.

Sadly, it will be the same way next year. Chukwu is big, but he's not doing anything with the ball in the post that Coleman can't do. I think that's why people need to put the brakes on the anticipated success of next year's team. We'll be deeper, at least in the front court, but a thin and inexperienced back court will be an issue.

It's all about rim protection with Chukwu. We have enough offense. We desperately need post defense.

Certainly. I was talking about his role on offense.

Howard is going to get a longer run at PG next year if Battle can't run the team. You'd see Mal move back to the 3 and Lydon to the 4 along with Roberson.
