Unlimited NIL for Scheyer

WSJ ran an article about this last week, Duke’s nil is run by three hedge fund guys who keep it all quiet. I suspect Duke’s NIL is higher than $8-10m.
I don't really see the issue. If anything, Duke is to be credited for being proactive, organized and well-moneyed to meet the current moment. If it were us we would all be lauding those who played a role.

Can you name names? From my vantage point Melo gets plenty of credit for leading us to the title.
Yeah, I agree. On one sports show last week they were talking about how Cooper was trying to do what Carmelo did. I thought that was pretty cool it being referenced even though that it was over 20 years ago.

The real question is how many years do they keep him he never wins a title?
I want to follow up on that, how much blame does Sheyer take for the last minute of the game? I think minimal but then how long before there are rumblings about his ability to finish the job and win the title if he keeps coming up short?

Duke definitely choked, given the 2nd half lead they had.

But I don't see how this season can be viewed as a failure for Duke. A disappointment? Maybe relative to high expectations, BUT they made the final four and were a missed shot basically at the buzzer to potentially be in the NC game.

That said, FFFfFFF Duke and their insipid fans.

But I don't think Scheyer deserves to take too much flak. Sometimes, shots don't fall, sometimes the best team doesn't win. And it isn't like they got upset by some cinderella -- Houston was a #1 seed for a reason, and had a remarkable season themselves [losing almost every game to top teams, with 3 of those losses being either in OT or by 1 point].

I've never seen a more blatant move. As soon as he came into the game, he basically tackled Melo.

Still doesn’t prove it had anything to do with Sampson. If I’m ever accused of a crime I hope you’re not on the jury!

While Sampson isn’t a choir boy, folks rooting against Houston because of his past actions (or alleged actions) better not google what Todd Golden has been accused of.

yeah the guy can coach/motivate but the deification of Sampson in recent years by media and fans is nauseating and conveniently leaves out some pretty gross stuff of his
Exactly. Sampson is a cheater and an inveterate liar. He broke the rules and then lied to investigators. Just like Will Wade. And Todd Golden is a creepy harasser of women. Do people want receipts? Why does the media keep deifying these guys?

I remember that play and it was a BS cheap shot. But how do we know Sampson sent in a player specifically for the purpose of trying to hurt Melo?
Well, why was that guy sent in to the game? He wasn't a player in their rotation. And the only thing he does is take a run at Melo from behind. That wasn't a coincidence.

Syracuse fans have a specific grievance with Sampson. But he’s also a proven cheater and an inveterate liar. He broke the rules, gave himself a competitive advantage, and then lied to investigators. Just like Will Wade, who paid players when others didn’t (which is the ultimate advantage). And Todd Golden is a creepy harasser of women. The receipts are out there. Why does the media keep deifying these guys? And for folks who point out JB’s misdeeds, they pale in comparison to Sampson, Wade and so many others. JB is a choirboy compared to these guys.

I did 5 minutes of digging just because I was curious. The player had come in 3 minutes before he took the cheap shot. So it’s not like it was his first trip or 2 down the floor. Looks like he played 6 minutes in the game. And he also got minutes in other tournament games that were reasonably close, not just blowouts.

That being said, I can see the suspicion of bringing in a player with no offensive prowess when Oklahoma badly needed points to get back in that game. So I do get where you’re coming from.

It was 3 minutes after he came into the game. But it was a weird substitution by Sampson given the flow of that game. I’ll give you that.
