Would help our academic ranking. Doh! (Kidding)Next chancellor
His system is a 4-2-5 with 4-3 and 3-3-5 concepts mixed in, I believe.Does this mean we are playing a 3-3-5 next season? I'm weary of that.
Why? We had a good defense when we had the 3-3-5.Does this mean we are playing a 3-3-5 next season? I'm weary of that.
IIRC that’s because he doesn’t need to, he has a more active line to create confusion/opportunitiesI hated reading that his scheme doesn’t blitz a lot.

Cope harder, Nebraska fans.
Vince Kehres runs an aggressive, hybrid 4-2-5 defense, often described as a "Quarters-dominant" scheme that uses inverted safeties and hybrid linebackers (like a "WILL") to create leverage, confuse offenses, and effectively stop the run while also playing sound pass coverage, often employing man-under with bracket principles for the slot receivers. It's known for its unique use of safeties as force players and its ability to consume the box to neutralize RPOs.That’s not why. It’s because he’s looking to take away parts of the field and funnel the ball to specific areas. has nothing to do with his DLine.

I'll take that style of defense over the nonsense we had to endure the last two years.
Current personnel would be a concern if we were transitioning to a straight 3-3-5, but it looks like Kehres runs a 4-2-5 with some 3-3-5 components depending on the matchup. Why? We had a good defense when we had the 3-3-5.
Here you go my friend:I hated reading that his scheme doesn’t blitz a lot.
We did run some 3-3-5 in the red zone and vs. Georgia Tech in 24. Not much this year due to no LBer depth.Current personnel would be a concern if we were transitioning to a straight 3-3-5, but it looks like Kehres runs a 4-2-5 with some 3-3-5 components depending on the matchup.
Yeah, that was my initial thought too.I hated reading that his scheme doesn’t blitz a lot.
A team that can play excellent defense without needing to blitz is FAR more dangerous than one that does need to. Blitzing by definition opens up vulnerabilities by sending extra men to attack the QB. If you can shut down with 4 rushing or get pressure that way, you are very difficult to attack. You can scheme up ways to beat the blitz and make a defense pay.I hated reading that his scheme doesn’t blitz a lot.
After how ineffective all our blitzing was this year, that's the last thing to be concerned about.I hated reading that his scheme doesn’t blitz a lot.
The Indiana HC brought a lot of impact JMU guys with him, hoping Vince can do the same. That will help flip the switch.

Exactly!Well to be fair a blitz scheme designed by a guy who was a terrible DC
When Kehres does blitz, he sends 6 often using DBs and cover 0. He wants to make sure they get home.I hated reading that his scheme doesn’t blitz a lot.
Yup that’s my take too. Bet the pitch from Fran was: “Come here and get hired by a bigger problem after we make the CFP. You’ll get a better job than staying at Toledo. Look at what happened to Candle.”Kehres has "soon to be a HC" written all over his resume.
Looks like a home run hire even if he is only here a year or 2.
