I served from 1955 to 1959 and was a Sgt and a Amphibian Tractor and Tank Mechanic. My dad served from 1952-1956. Staff Sergeant and MP.
just like a puzzle. when the pieces all fit together you get a nice picture. when they don't you're looking at chaos. It's about whether they play well enough together to win games. They don't.
It's been reported a multitude of times that in JB's later years he didn't want to coach any more Devos. He wanted compliant guys who made his life easy.Devo said on the radio this past week that the teams he was on would be fighting at practice regularly- that’s how competitive they and the practices were. I cannot picture this team doing that.
Are we sure Devo didn't misspeak? I'm thinking instead of "practice" he meant "Chucks."Devo said on the radio this past week that the teams he was on would be fighting at practice regularly- that’s how competitive they and the practices were. I cannot picture this team doing that.
I think AAU ball has killed the Cooney's at the top level of high school and prep basketball. Its not rewarded to be an in the trenches type player. You're starting to see some resurgence with the portal because players who got overlooked for not being AAU ball hogs are getting a chance to shine at the lower levels and then move up.It's been reported a multitude of times that in JB's later years he didn't want to coach any more Devos. Personally, I think the mistake JB made was equating guys who were off-the-court headaches (e.g. Louis McCroskey) with guys who were on-the-court dawgs (e.g. Trevor Cooney).
If you look at his last few rosters it was evident he largely eschewed both of those kinds of players. We haven't been a tough team in a long, long time.
UVa went on a 12-0 run without us taking a timeout. And that was it.On Saturday, my daughter had a dance competition that morning, and it didn't get done until right after 11 CST [noon eastern]. When I got outside, I slapped the game on Sirius XM -- I'd only missed the first 6 minutse or so, and we were up something like 10-2, but then promptly gave up a 14-2 run. Awesome.
So as I drove home, I listened to most of the first half in the car. The broadcast team was from UVa [the only broadcast I could find]. Their color guy made a comment that was something like [paraphrasing]: "when we play teams like this, all it takes is to make the extra pass, and the defense breaks down and we carve them up. This is too easy."
Spoke volumes.
IF, and it's a big IF, they cut him loose before the end of the season, I predict it will happen after the 2/21 game vs UNC. Only three games will be left in the season. The first two are on the road and then the last game of the season is home vs. Pitt, and Cuse will have a full week after UNC until the next game. That's assuming Duke and UNC are both losses and at least one of Cal/SMU. It's all over but the crying at that point.I still dont know why they just dont cut Red loose now. Rip off the damn band aid and start building this program back up brick by brick.
That’s such an indictment of our defense and offense since good teams like Virginia, UNC and uh, Boston College use the extra pass to regularly pick us apart, leading to open threes or driving the lane with ease while our offense is pretty much incapable or unwilling to do the same.On Saturday, my daughter had a dance competition that morning, and it didn't get done until right after 11 CST [noon eastern]. The talent and the coaching are lacking.
How many big time teams have zero inside presence ? Sure most teams are perimeter oriented, but you can’t have a front line of 6-6-6-9 string beans and expect to compete at the highest level.
Freeman is a skilled player with height but no strength .
Kyle is an undersized 5 with great athleticism but no actual basketball skill
Kings is a shooter who can’t create a shot
JJ is….JJ is…I don’t know what he is . He’s the most difficulty to characterize player of recent
memory.
George is a slow footed pg with mediocre handle and shooting
White is seriously over ranked running and jumping athlete without skill
Anthony is the converse of white
The team is the proverbial island of misfit toys
The coach is a net negative.
But I’m not buying the hype that this is a tourney team with even a decent coach
I predicted that a few weeks ago back ha. Agree though.IF, and it's a big IF, they cut him loose before the end of the season, I predict it will happen after the 2/21 game vs UNC. No matter what, there might only be seven home games left in Red's regime at the most, because there is a chance we are one of three that don't make the ACCT. But, that's hard to gauge because five teams have only two wins and we have four. And we still play two of those five.
The defense went out the window when the guys realized that the offense couldn’t score and they also realized the staff was clueless. That’s such an indictment of our defense and offense since good teams like Virginia, UNC and uh, Boston College use the extra pass to regularly pick us apart, leading to open threes or driving the lane with ease while our offense is pretty much incapable or unwilling to do the same.
