Wake Forest Postgame

The problem with Freeman is he has no " I'm on a team" mentality.. He has no hustle and no killer instinct. There's no way he's a first round pick and definitely no way he's a lottery pick like most thought. I think he was highly overrated, he is definitely gone after this season.

Prior to the Bucknell game one of the commentators said they talked to an NBA scout about Freeman before the game and they said something along the lines of, "he is much better suited for the NBA game than college." Or maybe a much better prospect for the NBA than college?

Something like that. Someone else may recall the wording better.

Not necessarily overrated, as a lot of players are like Freeman but get good coaching and development as they are ranked on "potential". We are not good at developing players and getting them to reach or get closer to that potential.

Yeah, it seems like at times he'll get the ball - do some good things. We saw that yesterday when Carlos fed him down low early in the second half. He had a couple positive touches, and then he didn't see the ball again for a bit and got pulled. Probably for defense...but I don't much recall why he was pulled.

Lol..probably the same scout that said Mintz was gonna be a lottery pick

I remember this too and was wondering what that would even mean.

Fair! :)

There does always seem to be an "unnamed" NBA scout walking about before college games declaring everyone that averages over 10 PPG is going to be drafted.

Lol..yes.. and unfortunately the players hear these "unamed NBA scout" quotes..

If he’s gone he’s playing somewhere in college. I watch the Knicks a lot. Just imagine Freeman trying to guard OG, Hart or any other forward on the Knicks. Thibs would cut him after the first practice.

He wouldn’t get drafted by the Knicks or any contender. He’d be a project at the end of the first round. I’m always surprised by the ignorance on the NBA here. Bub Carrington was a first round pick. You remember what he did against us last year?

Even wakes 10th scholarship hits a three and Bell can barely get one off let alone hit it. Hes hurt by not having players around him but this is a joke.

Lampkin was better at Colorado bc he had NBA picks around him. He was miscast to be the missing element as our center. Give me Malik 100/100 times over any one of our forwards except Donnie and even that’s a push to me.

Carlos is the single worst point guard I have seen here. He misses the front end of a one and one 99.9 percent of the time and dribbles around the court like he is the only kid who is allowed to dribble.

Every forward player on this team has reminded me at least partly with my frustrations with Benny last couple of years.

Luckily i think we have to start over next year because no one on this team may be left.
There’s no way he could take enough front ends of 1 and 1’s in ten lifetimes to miss 99.9% of them

+1
With SU on long-term skids, Knicks now my only source of Hoops Happiness.

They don’t want guys that are such projects that they start to become useful just about the time their deals are up. What’s the point developing them for another team? Amen Thompson is a project. Freeman is a reject.

I mean that’s just not true. Amen Thompson was a top 5 pick. The teams have to pick someone. Go through the bottom of the first round the last couple years

I seems to me that moving forward we should ask ourselves if any other major program would hire the coach were about to hire. Shafer, Red...no program would hire them. Even Robinson could have swindled someone based on his super bowl and Texas DC stints.
I think you can expand this line of thinking to the assistant coaches. None have come from other major programs and most likely none are in high demand from other programs. If this experiment ends after this year, where do they end up?

Thompson plays a ton harder than Donnie. I think he'd get drafted but in my opinion he has been a major disappointment. Doesn't get enough touches? Grab an offensive rebound, finish after running hard in transition. If you only impact the game if plays get run for you...not good enough.

By no means am I thrilled with Freeman’s play or anything. I’m just saying I still think he shows enough NBA skills to get a spot. Maybe I’m wrong though. Maybe the defense will be a big enough concern

He has NBA foundational elements. His stroke is good. He’s got to learn to play D and handle the rock better.
Freeman is heading to the league for the same reason he was a top 10 recruit - great potential and measurables. That hasn’t changed, it’s just a question of lotto or late first round, and it used to be the former and now seems like the latter.

Absolutely but He’ll drain that mid range turnover that nba scouts love. And he does rebound pretty good at this level all things considered

If all the players stayed in the same jersey and just the coaches switched seats Syracuse would win the game.
And celebrate at the Old Country Buffet afterwards. Coach's treat.

Dude is a project offensively. But one that has reasonable shot at getting completed in a time frame that made him usable to the drafting team. He’s already a terror on defense. Freeman isn’t a project. He’s waaay beyond that. He’s a vacant lot that is just having the slab poured

Do you believe Freeman will be drafted? Yes or no

The whole Knoblauch thing was one of the strangest things I've ever seen in sports.

I remember seeing him literally looking at his hand to see how he was releasing the ball as he tried to make a throw to 1st base. I mean, it was really sad how badly it got into his head.

Our issues begins, extends and ends with not having a legitimate point guard.

Sorry to disagree, because the PG position is doing poorly. But our defense is the reason we have lost so many games. Eddie literally turns his back on guys who are driving the lane at least 2 or 3 times a game. I mean, what the heck are you doing???

Donnie Freeman is talented but not strong. Does not have strong hands. Does not have the lower body strength to avoid being bodied out of the low post. Does not have the common sense to go inside more often and shoot over defenders. He's soft. He gets rebounds and scores because he's big, athletic and talented, but he's soft as tissue paper. That's a problem.

Autry hasn't prioritized defense, and the offense is non-existent, so what have they been working on in practice? Their pre-game handshakes?

I mean, we are 13 games into the season before he tries a press. He has played zone maybe 20 minutes all season, if that, when he has a center who can't defend one-on-one.

We've all looked at him give too much game time to guys who aren't trying out there. He finally seems to be doing something about that, but again, culture wise, there is rot that sets in when you don't make your team play any defense for the first 2 months of the season, and then suddenly you start benching guys? I mean, where is the sense? What is the goal?
