We Are GRob Bad

He'll get another year for sure but he has dug his own grave with Cool Kid and Lester. New AD equals new HC so I'm not so worried. Sick to my stomach at the product on the field yes, but change will be a coming.

for the love of god, can we stop saying that the defense is good?

No defense can hold up if the offense is a net negative, it is simply a matter of any decent offense having the advantage, if your own offense is crap you will eventually be worn down and lose. The defense has played well enough but our offense gives them nothing.
Problem for next year is we lose a lot of our defense, so then what?

We're poorly coached, we're depleted, and our skilled talent is subpar.

Hate to say it, because I've been a Shafer supporter, but I don't think he's got the chops to be a head coach. I've seen enough.

And I agree 100% with the post above--our offense is terrible, and I see no positive signs that things might turn around.

And, to the point of my post the other day, if we've seen enough, it'd be great if we had the capacity to cut bait now. At least we'd have hope.

Shafer's not the only coach in the world who can coach defense.

Don't wanna blame it on Shafer but don't wanna blame it on injuries either but when you have your 3rd, 4th string guys going out there and telling them to compete it's not realistic. Yeah I'm mad I want to win just like everyone else but I think we turn it around in a big way next year, mark my words.

And if we do not? We will have a weaker defense next year. Will the offense suddenly be that much better? I am expecting next year to be a questionable year, maybe slightly better(I hope), but not a great leap forward.

Just landed in Hawaii after 9 hrs in flight and just saw score then read ESPN recap. What!!! I say sh**can the entire staff, especially on offense.
Why can't we have a HC like Steve Addazio? I am very tired of Shafer and his hardnosed crap...

We have one of the worst offenses in D1 football, which is extremely frustrating, because we have a very good defense. You can say what you want about Shafer and the rest of the staff, but when you have played four QBs due to injury and have played without some of our starting OL in many games what can you really expect? Our starting QB was borderline D1 in every area other than being a very good athlete, so when you start throwing the second and third and fourth guy out there we are in serious trouble! I guess you can look at the positive and say that one of the only reasons Hunt was still going to start was because of lack of experience behind him, so at least now lack of experience won't be an issue.

If we had a Coach P offense (in terms of production) with the defense we have this year we may be looking at a 9-2 or 10-1 record at this point in the season. Almost every game, even against the "better" teams our defense has kept us in the game through the third quarter even without anything resembling an offense.

Some of this blame goes on the coaches, some on the players and some on the injuries. Really I think we had a perfect storm of crappiness on offense this year with all three for of the former coming into play. I understand that Shafer is more hands on with the defense, but he still has a defensive staff full of D3 coaches as some of you have put it. So I don't think the lack of experience when it comes to coaching has to be deadly thing. All coaches regardless of level start off lacking experience, but when you add lack of coaching experience, to injuries and to players who haven't performed up to their potential (of don't have the potential we thought they did) then you have a 3-8 season.

sorry, buy put me in the injuries have destroyed this season camp, starting with the Hunt injury. Shafer should get another year.

We all want to see this program get back to 8 wins being bare minimum but as bad as this year has been changing the entire coaching staff would set us back even farther. I was against demoting McDonald when coach did it because I didn't see someone clearly better on staff and as you have seen the offense hasn't changed for the better with that change, partly because of Terrell Hunt being hurt since like it or not for this year Hunt was our best shot at 8 wins, other part of the problem has been the rash of injuries, final part is the acc doing us no favors with how the schedule was laid out. If as expected McDonald leaves to go somewhere else Shafer should look to hire the best offensive mind he can afford with the spot available on staff. If he insists on keeping lester as OC you can have co OC's or have 1 as passing game coordinator with Lester looking like he is best at running stuff

We have one of the worst offenses in D1 football, which is extremely frustrating, because we play our home games in the stadium most conducive to good offense in all of P5 football.

We were 9 seconds from finishing 5-7 last season. Color me unimpressed.

I'm as frustrated by the Special teams as I am by the offense.
Part of the struggle of the offense lies at the feet of the struggles with special teams.

We might score more points if we didn't start every drive at the 20 yard line.

I wish we could always start at the 20 yard line-That'd be an improvement. I have no hope of ever starting a drive on a kickoff return past the 25 and no hope of a punt return. There's just little to no blocking. We've also been bailed out a few times by penalties the last couple of games on returns (besides giving up a TD and several other big returns). To me, Special teams is 90% coaching

who are you going to get at offensive coordinator? Everyone keeps calling for change here, but who can we get with no money. Look as Muschamp at Florida, 3 offensive coordinators including Charlie Weiss……and it still didn't help!
It's not just the money... what OC will agree to come here knowing it could end up being a 1 year gig?

Punt?

What.

The.

?

Yeah that was a straw for me. I just switched over to the BC FSU game, if they don't want to try to win then why did I watch the game. That's three 4th quarter punt's on 4th and medium to 4th and short when behind this year, putrid.

I agree with you but are the number of injuries, which continued today, coincidence or the result of a mistake in S&C planning and/or tactics? Because that would be a big mistake.

Been wondering about this all year we have 9 guys go down a game other team has 3 ... hmmm

Scott Shafer is not a smart guy. We need smart. This is not asking for much. Next year is a perfect time to have a new coach come in a rebuild.
we need a snake oil salesman, as a head coach to sell the program. hire good assistants and the hc should be the ceo. old coach mac comes to mind---someone of that ilk.

Like everyone else, I was disgusted by the punt call. Like everyone else, I abhor our offensive play calling. I do have a question, though... While it seems as though most predicted a 6 or 7 win season with a few optimistic souls calling the w's at 9, I wonder what most people would have predicted if they knew that Hunt would start poorly and then miss the remainder, Wilson would get hurt, the Long would miss a game, Kimble would be forced to play, the offensive would be decimated for most of the year, and Estime and Broyld would be out so much, etc. This is not a rationalization post, trust me. I am as disappointed as anyone. I just think if people knew about all these injuries before the season, most would have said 3-4 wins. I did see some bright spots as far as personnel go, but I would really like to see an aggressive, creative offensive mind hired to be the OC next year.

You offer a 2-year contract.
If you're not willing to do that then send everyone packing.
