I keep telling some of you that big DT's that can't move do no good in this defense. Every thing the staff has shown points towards more quicker explosive D Lineman. Not sure why people are surprised by this.
I think they can be both. When I was looking at the 335 the de were around 280 nt 300 plus. I do think bear is moving to de. His size and athleticism would be great. I know they were interested in mcdoggle from WSU in the portal. There are some other guys to add depth.

MacDougle is going to Buffalo.

Yep and the big guys that can move are projected 1st rounders at the factory schools. I'm excited to see how our DL progresses, I think we'll be deeper than people think.

Its not a matter of what we think D lineman can do. They want their NT to be quick and explosive. It would be great If they can find a 280-300 pounder that can perform all the stunts and drops in this scheme. Which 3-3-5 did you look at? Arizona st didnt have time to recruit for the 3-3-5. They used what they had there. 90% percent of their D line is around 260-270. That is by design. Why ignore that?

The safeties are huge. So refreshing.

The RB size wow. 5-10 205 average. Perfect. So refreshing.

The DEnds and LBs all have great size. So refreshing.

Bleich must have reshaped his body. Didn't he come in around 330 and now at 307? Same with Tisdale. Wow. I'm excited to see if the new OL coach can work some magic with guys who should be a lot stronger and able to move around.

I'm not really seeing any notable losses, Hendrix and Gouldbourne.

57 players out 85 classified as freshmen
Setting up the 2023 and 2024 seasons with a chance to be special.

Hold on to these kids and the future is looking bright, again

I do get that explosiveness is more important in our 3-3-5, it just seems to me that McKinley was able to be that guy at 291 lbs. I Just want one starter on the line to not be pushed out of the way fairly easily by large 300+ lb men. But if he can be VERY explosive at 270 lbs then It could be even better for our scheme. I guess we'll see.

I brought that point up before after Tony White first came over - people were just looking at ASU's roster and DL size and making assumptions - he was only there for 2 years and that unit had not been turned over yet completely. Getting the best use out of what you have is the present - recruiting for the system over time is the future.

And if they could get a 340 pound guy who was agile and quick - I'm sure they'd be all over him. But those guys don't fall off trees and get snapped up by the factory programs generally speaking who all battle over them.

Personally, being "surprised" and being concerned are not the same thing. The quicker more explosive DTs are pretty much the same guys that were getting blown off the LOS consistently all year. I understand and appreciate that the install was limited last season. I fully expect that there will be more stunts, drops, run blitzing, flexible fronts, bear fronts, hybrid schemes. I am concerned about the 1 technique guys we have being able to handle that load at the point of attack.

But it is better for the scheme. There is no could be about it. The staff wanted him to cut weight. Tony knows exactly what makes the scheme works. Its his scheme. That one starter needs to be able to do what the whole schemes needs him to do. If he happens to be 300 pounds, great.

If they are concerned than they will make the necessary moves. Right now it seems like they are not.
