No QB, no center, = no run game.
Once teams knew we couldn't pass we were cooked. Adding gas to the fire is our entire blocking scheme is focused on the pass game.
Our run game would have been adequate if Steve remained at QB

why bother with RPO when we seldom had the QB run.

Because ran-pass-option allows the QB the pull the ball and throw it if the defense reacts to the run. This assumes we can execute blocking well enough for it to matter.
