We should’ve won today

Yes of course. Who fires a coach if they make it to top 32? Do you know anything about basketball? Seriously you have said some insane things
I mean, yeah, given the last 3 years, if we barely sneak into the tournament and win a game, then I’m going to be super on board with keeping him. There’s a very realistic chance of that happening.

I dunno, I kinda feel like we used to be an elite basketball school and we should act like it. Our football team—including this season—has been consistently better than our basketball team over the last 7 years.

That red gets another year if he makes it to the round of 32 no matter what.
Yes, he certainly will get another year if that’s what happened the rest of the season, and he’d deserve it. Now if they regressed next year and missed the tournament again I’d say they need to move on.

I was ready for them to move on from him last year. But we’re stuck with him for this year obviously. While I’m not doing cartwheels for this team so far (4-1 is what everyone expected), they certainly have shown some encouraging signs. Now if they go 1-2 (or worse) in the remaining Vegas games and against Tennessee I’d probably feel differently.

Used to be an elite basketball school was like 20 years ago. Times have changed. If red doesn’t make the tourney, then he probably deserves to go and will be gone most likely. But this team will be really good next year too… kingz will get another year too. They have a large amount of NIL money for next year too. The trajectory is upward right now which we haven’t seen in a while and I know it’s hard to please everyone bc Cuse has stunk for a long time, but this was a step in right direction

It’s Reds fault we shot 41% from the line?? That was the entire game. And I’m no Red apologist.
Yup. Same. I’m no Red apologist but gotta shoot it straight. We went on an 11-0 run to end the game. We make literally just ONE more free throw we win the game. Literally. We shoot just AVERAGE at the free throw line…like 70% which is pretty average for college ball. We then win the game by 6-8 points. This game was not on Red. Really this is well a game we could have played and the team played really well. Legitimately free throw shooting was the difference and probably second chance points/offensive rebounds. That’s really the only 2 things you can draw this loss up to. When you play great teams like Houston. A lot of times that’s the difference

He can't guard anyone. They went after him every time down court
Also, their guards defending him were way to physical for him right now. They made it hard for him to attack the rim.

Most teams that make the round of 32 don’t “barely sneak into the tournament.” Sure a couple do each year. But I feel like you’re kind of shifting the goal posts. Earlier it was just making the round of 32. Now it’s just “sneaking into the tournament and making the round of 32.”

I don't see anything there that suggests that the top 4 teams play a semi finals to determine the finals.
On the "Championship Day" session, there are scheduled 3rd place game and championship game.

And down 4* out of a timeout we shot a 3 3 feet off the arc with 17 seconds left.

I’m not saying we played poorly. We have some of the best players in the country. I’m saying Red Autry is a bad coach.

Edit: damn typos.
Just wondering if you think that Sampson is a bad coach? cuz I haven’t seen many late game collapses like that by a coach that was in the Natty last year and had the #1 team in the country a few days ago. Especially to the #60 kenpom team and a bad coach missing their best player.

Maybe I’m just stupid though.

Free throw shooting aside, 3-19 from three for Kiyan and the two Nates combined just killed us.

This is where we needed Donnie. We settled for so many outside shots and could have used his back-to-the-basket game for high percentage looks. Or going high-low with Kyle.

Kingz settles for too many outside shots where he's off-balance and doesn't have his feet properly set.
I think Donnie would have been perfect between the elbows when the two guards shoot out on the ball handler. Kyle kinda played that role, but is nowhere near the threat to shoot, drive and kick that Donnie is. Although, I will say I've been impressed by Kyle's passing.

The [missed] foul at the end of regulation.

How many times do you hear "whatever you do, don't foul in that situation." Sometimes you even see easy baskets players are so afraid to foul on accident.

Houston is a really good team. They should know better than that. Felt like they either knew it wouldn't get called, or thought we'd miss.

The 3rd place game would be teams 3 and 4 playing it out. That doesn't mean that there's a semifinals round before the finals round.

What were the coaching discrepancies you saw from Sampson?? Just curious..
I guess I’m failing to see the point. We built a crazy athletic and talented team with the money that Melo clearly gave us. I’m glad we played well, but we blew it on late game coaching failures and missing free throws. Someone tell me how I’m the bad guy here.

Exactly! LOL! Should have read this before my post.

Why did we foul at the end?! We were down two, 4-6 seconds would've been left if we got a stop and we could've ran down and scored. But Instead we foul their best FT shooter?! Like What
That was not the plan. That was a mistake by George.

Melo wasn’t the big NIL donor.

I’m more on the pessimistic side of the fan spectrum. I was ready for them to fire Red 10 games into last season.

And I get being frustrated losing a game tonight that was right there. I’m not necessarily a fan of moral victories either. But, the “woe is me” fans after tonight’s loss are exhausting.

For the first time in 5 years this team has potential. Can we at least see how the next 48 hours go before being whiney b!+che$? If they don’t play well the next 2 days then sure, go ahead and be upset with the lack of progress in this program.
Thank you.

I mean, I gotta disagree. Yes, we used to be an elite basketball school a little over 10 years ago. I also agree that we’ve been unwatchable garbage for a long time.

Why on earth would we give a bad coach another year of crazy NIL funding if we barely get to the tournament on like 19 wins and beat like—I dunno—Creighton.

Put differently, the administration, Wildhack, etc. need to act like they care. If they don’t, then why should anybody give them money for NIL. This participation trophy stuff drives me nuts. I don’t mean that in a Boomery way, I mean that in a, “good god, how far have we fallen” way,

Also, who says any of these players are going to be on our team next year? What year is it? 2019?

I watched Melo do a nationally televised AT&T commercial with Kiyan. We’re seriously pretending that Melo has nothing to do with this?

We had a couple good seasons 10 years ago, but we haven't been elite for 20+ years.. Dude, enjoy the win, the season.. can't believe you're spending this much time bashing the Coach right now.

What are you smoking tonight hah. That’s not how this game works.
Jesus Christ people. Yes, we now—more or less—pay the players directly for playing without media appearances. However, you’re seriously telling me that Melo had nothing to do with the presence of his son at this school or for the money that stood to make both of them? How does everybody tie their shoes in the morning?

We averaged 30 wins a year from 2009 to 2014. If that isn’t good enough here than I’m not sure what will be.
How many titles did we win during that Elite period? As many as Duke, UConn, Kansas, NC..? They were elite, we had a few good years during that period, but not Elite.

Dude, 11 years ago we were ranking #1 in week 16 . The year before that we were in the Final 4. The year before that were in the Elite 8. What are you talking about?

Edit: the year before that we were in the round of 32, the year before that we were in the sweet 16 for the second year in a row. I kinda feel like people are forgetting this.
