Week 12 Bowl Watch

i have to trust wildhack to make it clear to acc office that we would rather not play back 2 back in yankee stadium if thats what the players and coaches communicate to him

Here's Swofford's response:

For old timers: I was at Archbold stadium in 1975. Villanova versus Syracuse Bill Hurley lets the ball sit there in the end zone after a kick off and Villanova recovers for a TD. Coach Maloney was incensed that future quarterback Bill Hurley did not know the rule. I think Howie long might have been playing for Villanova then.

Just missed him. He was drafted by Raiders in 1981, so his Nova career would have 1977-80 seasons.

Win vs BC and we are Camping in Orlando. A loss and Pinstripe is a good possibility. Sun Bowl would be other possible outcome at 8-4. Music City and Belk will have a more regional team to pick from so those bowls are less likely for us in my opinion.

I'm curious to see where Pitt lands in the CFP rankings if they beat Miami. If they can do that and get ranked, they might stay ranked with a respectable showing vs. Clemson.

Assuming we both win out, I could see 9-3 Cuse v. 9-3 Calipari's Crooks (KY) in Nashville.

I was there in Dec 99...50000 UK fans vs 500 Cuse fans. That bowl was a huge deal for UK and it wasn't for Cuse fans coming off the McNabb years with a 6-5 team.

We'd travel better but it would be like 30k vs 6K

I mean, truthfully, if we want the bowl we travel best to (and this is my fear about the selection process) its the pinstripe. Thats probably only bowl we have a chance at not being outnumbered significantly at. Maybe Military but I dont see us falling that far (i hope).

I agree that Orlando is a relatively inexpensive flight with tons of hotel options that may be the best chance at SU fans to travel en masse south of NY

Not sure we would be badly outnumbered at the Camping World Bowl...kinda depends on which B12 team gets the nod.

I think we will travel worse than expected to the Pinstripe Bowl...We just had a bad experience at Yankee Stadium and the tickets were very expensive for Notre Dame.

Oh I agree that NYC and Yankee Stadium is going to leave a bad taste for many and will depress attendance.

For me at least, the only bowl destination I would to is Pinstripe. Strongly considering all of the others.

If we beat BC and Pitt beats Miami (and loses to Clemson), they'd have a better conference record. I think in that scenario, they get Orlando and we get Old El Paso or Grand Ole Opry. They also own the tiebreaker against us.

Camping Wolrd goes by CFP ranking. It's highly doubtful that Pitt jumps us in that if we beat BC. Only way would be them beating Miami AND Clemson.

I think my favorite part about the game (from a left field bleachers perspective) is there was basically a hidden Men's room, you could only see the sign if you were looking for it. It was great, not many people figured it out, never a line. Never even close to full.

And before you say it, no, it wasn't like the rest stops in There's Something About Mary.

And yeah, if you're favorite part about a game is short rest room line, that means you drank too much and cheered too little.
I found it too. Very discreet

I don't think that's true. CWB is not bound to select an ACC team with a higher CFP ranking,. They simply get the third pick from the ACC after the CFP Playoff and New Year's Six. They can skip us and select a team with a worse conference record and/or CFP ranking.

3. Camping World Bowl -
The Camping World Bowl has the first pick of an ACC team after the CFP and New Year’s Six Bowls are filled.

Technically they probably leave it open ended for various escape reasons but if you read the blogs at floridacitrussports.com you'd come away with the strong impression they want the highest ranked team, and why wouldn't they? If you had a bowl would you rather have the #15 ranked team in the country or an unranked team to advertise?

But...they don't have the bars like YS does. The best deal was standing outside Yankee Tavern on the sidewalk drinking 24 ouncers in paper bags. The deli across the street was making a killing selling them for $3.50.

You got jobbed. 6 pack of Bud for $8 and dude gave me $14 change for a $20 spot. The owner was wearing about the biggest smile I have ever seen.

We're ranked #19, and beating BC is not going to move us up that much if at all. A lot of factors come into play not the least of which, is attendance and fan travel base. We could be passed over. It's happened before.

CFP rankings come out tomorrow. We could very well be a couple spots better than 19, and teams ahead of us are likely to lose next week.

We ain't getting passed over by a higher ranked Pitt, trust me, or wager me, your choice.

just because pit may have a better record than us doesnt mean they go to orlando before us and head to head means nothing

Pinstripe vs Ohio St or Ped State would be great. Against Northwestern or Rutgers it would be terrible. Redeeming ourselves with a win against a big name Big Ten team would not be the worst thing. Maybe we get the cancelled Wisconsin game? OSU/PSU/Wiscy/Michigan are the only teams I'd be interested in attending but I think theres a decent shot it would be one of them. Its Teir 1. Anyone else and I totally agree with you.

neither of those teams will be in the mix for pinstripe bowl, wisconsin is probably best from bigten

Pitt/Schpitt. Any team with 6 wins from the ACC can go to Orlando. They can choose whomever they want. That said, conference record will play a role in their choice IMHO.

We're not a lock for the CWB. That is clear. Even if we beat BC.

I often travel 100s sometimes 1000s of miles to drink outside of bars, out of brown paper bags in November and December.

We usually don't have to use the paper bags at the away tailgates :)

Every bit of the post is false. Stop making things up dude.
