Week 12 Bowl Watch

I mean, truthfully, if we want the bowl we travel best to (and this is my fear about the selection process) its the pinstripe. Thats probably only bowl we have a chance at not being outnumbered significantly at. Maybe Military but I dont see us falling that far (i hope).

I agree that Orlando is a relatively inexpensive flight with tons of hotel options that may be the best chance at SU fans to travel en masse south of NY
Week after Christmas is typically one of the busiest tourism weeks in Orlando. Bowl games are just a small part of it.

true. still take my chances there vs NYC tho...

But...they don't have the bars like YS does. The best deal was standing outside Yankee Tavern on the sidewalk drinking 24 ouncers in paper bags. The deli across the street was making a killing selling them for $3.50.

Or the Taco Bell beers. Lol.

You got jobbed. 6 pack of Bud for $8 and dude gave me $14 change for a $20 spot. The owner was wearing about the biggest smile I have ever seen.
He was like a Taco Truck who suddenly had two tour buses pull up...it ran pretty orderly too. We were in and out in 2-3 mins.

Another thing to remember about going to Orlando...from CNY. There are so many nonstops now to Orlando, Orlando-Sanford, Tampa, St Pete, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers...find a "cheap" flight and build a vacation around it.

Cheap being relative

I think the Sun Bowl offers the juiciest potential match up. Potentially could play one of Stanford, Oregon, Az St. Camping World Bowl would likely be against Iowa St and Pinstripe Bowl would be against a boring B10 team, likely Purdue, Mich St or Iowa.

I went to our Citrus Bowl game on NYD in Orlando. Disney World was wall-to-wall people.

Nope. Cny’s mostly sox fans. “Don’t @ me”

I must have been gone too long. When I lived in the area, a Sox fan would have been given a pair of shoes, cement shoes, and dropped off in a river or a lake.

I was there in Dec 99...50000 UK fans vs 500 Cuse fans. That bowl was a huge deal for UK and it wasn't for Cuse fans coming off the McNabb years with a 6-5 team.

We'd travel better but it would be like 30k vs 6K

I was one of those 500....fun game in a fun city...I’d be just fine with going back to NashVegas

I agree but not this year having just played there...

This may come across as hypocritical because I can't attend the bowl regardless of where it is and I don't want to tell people how to spend their money. But for those who aren't going to attend the Pinstripe Bowl, I can understand not wanting to do Yankee Stadium again. But wouldn't it help our future bowl prospects if for example, the Camping World Bowl is trying to decide between us and another school and we show that we can travel well especially to a bowl a few hours away from campus?

To all of my fellow Orange fans, take a step back from the edge. Take a deep breath. Hold it for a few seconds and exhale slowly.

No, I am not making you do some weird stress reliever. Just trying to get you to appreciate the argument in front of us (which bowl to go to) as opposed to the arguments the last few years (we need to get back to bowling).

I now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of all things Orange...

Every bit of the post is false. Stop making things up dude.

There's nothing false at all stranger. They are not bound by CFP rankings or conference standings. They are free to choose any team in the conference with 6 wins. Fact. Look it up.

Hmmm. For some unknown reason, this concept seems vaguely familiar. ;)

Again making things up, where's your proof?

Given that the Camping World Bowl has the No. 2 selection in the ACC's bowl hierarchy this year, the Orlando-based game has a significant amount of control over how the ACC's bowl dominoes fall.

When making its selection, the ACC's bowls are contractually obligated to account for a number of criteria including geography, overall record and head-to-head results. The ACC does not make its entire criteria public.

Repchak said the Camping World Bowl uses the ACC's criteria, and also factors in things like attendance in previous bowl appearances, offensive and defensive rankings and perceived fan enthusiasm.

I don’t care what the fans want or think. The team wants a warm weather bowl no matter what it is. It’s their reward.

Then they better fluckin' beat BC

I was scolded in a previous post for suggesting the Camping World Bowl could take another team over SU no matter the ranking by using the one win rule.

I don't think that's true. CWB is not bound to select an ACC team with a higher CFP ranking,. They simply get the third pick from the ACC after the CFP Playoff and New Year's Six. They can skip us and select a team with a worse conference record and/or CFP ranking.

3. Camping World Bowl -
The Camping World Bowl has the first pick of an ACC team after the CFP and New Year’s Six Bowls are filled.
I believe that they have to take the higher-ranked team if there is a two-win difference.

NC St. finishes @UNC and vs. East Carolina, not exactly a murderers row. They win those they finish 9-3. If Cuse beats BC the Orangemen finish 9-3. If the CWB isn't locked into the rankings then they are taking the wolfpack, a school with more alums and within driving distance. Also NC St. would finish 5-3 to SU's 6-2 in ACC. Basically hope for a big upset by UNC or ECU to avoid Pinstripe.

Per a report out of the Raleigh News & Observer here are the ACC bowl selection rules:

To review the ACC bowl rules, the Camping World can’t take a 7-win team over a 9-win, but it can take an 8-win team over a 9-win team. The head-to-head result or conference finish have no bearing on the selection process.

The “Tier I” games will divvy up the next four ACC bowl spots. The same “one-win rule” applies. The teams eligible for the Tier I pool will be filled into slots in the Belk Bowl (Charlotte), Pinstripe Bowl (New York) and Sun Bowl (El Paso, Texas).

The Music City (Nashville) and Gator Bowl (Jacksonville, Fla.) have an agreement to take an ACC team three times over a six-year period. The Music City is expected to take an ACC team this season.
