Yeah it's shame that people want a team called the Orange to actually wear orange. Keep crying Dawson
I watched The Express, again, the other day and it was orange helmet, white jersey with blue numbers and orange pants. So there is that.Is someone tracking the yays and nays so I can decide how I feel?
Then we have no SU brand uniforms. It’s one thing to have a one off, it’s another to have the one off be the traditional ones. Last week the unis themselves looked fine. But they didn’t look like SU at all.
XFL?
I got no problem with blue being the color we use to go with Orange. I am just stating the fact blue isn't an official color. The second color could literally be any color.True, but I believe blue is considered the appropriate complement to orange if you go by a color wheel. That's probably why it's so prevalent in a variety of shades.
I was watching the ESPN college football 150 special on segregation.
The showed old clips of a lot of teams.
Alabama used to wear white helmets under Bear Bryant.
They changed to crimson.
Teams like USC, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State, Florida have switched minor things.
I understand your position.
I think having readable numbers is important.
Beyond that we should always wear Orange helmets. The tops and pants could be changed and it wouldn’t really bother me when today’s kids like the ability to wear multiple looks.
I completely understand the tradionalists' argument:
1) You want something consistent to maintain branding
2) You want a uniform combo you are familiar with and have grown up with.
I get this side of the argument and appreciate it ...to some extent
However, for me (And I've grown up with the Orange being a fan since 1993 when I could appreciate football):
1) The OBO look is getting tired (IMO), even though it was worn in Cuse's heyday. And as someone else said, Blue is not even the official secondary color
2) I LOVE white as a secondary color. Cant get enough of it. I thought last weeks uniforms were the best in 20 years ...The WOW factor!
3) If you want recruits to engage with branding, you can't have a uniform that looks like it still belongs in the 1980's. Sorry OBO's
4) If you are 45 and older, sit in your barcalounger with a beer and beer belly, have a full grown-man beard, and wear a flannel shirt with Daluth Trading Company jeans, you have absolutely lost the right to critique uniform designs.
It is really just Alabama, Penn State, and Auburn that don't change anymore. If we could recruit like those top teams I would agree but we can't. Today's kids like different looks if given a preference. It's cool to have the Coach Mac look for big games but even the Clemson jerseys were different from the Coach Mac look.I just don't buy the recruiting argument.
Alabama has no problem recruiting and the Tide wears the same uniform that Joe Namath wore.
Penn State has no problem recruiting.
Texas has no problem.
Auburn has no problem.
USC has no problem.
Ohio State has no problem.
They all wear their classic look - the same look they have been wearing for fifty years.
There is nothing tired about the Coach Mac look - it is still classic and great and should be worn every week.
I just don't buy the recruiting argument.

Pants that are the same color as the jersey, unless both are white, look sort of stupid.
When they're blue, they look very stupid.
And people who think differently are wrong.

To the opposite to this...
Oregon wears nothing traditional - they do OK
Yes, but the funky uniforms are themselves the brand that Oregon adopted awhile ago.
Oregon did what it did because of Nike money and because it had no football heritage.
Many schools have tried to copy the Oregon approach but nearly all of those schools are non-traditional football schools - Maryland, Oklahoma State - UCF - USF - Indiana - the MAC schools.
I don't want to be any of those schools.
I want to be what we are - a traditional football program with a great uniform brand that is immediately recognizable.
We don't need the BS and we certainly don't need the BS to recruit.
Honestly I don’t really care what they wear. Coach Mac years was a wonderful time so was the Jim brown era. They are also a long time ago. Things change, we are not at the same level as the programs you mentioned. We have had some years of great success and some lousy years too. Those programs that you mentioned are also at a different level then SU, they are the blood bloods, have amazing resources and sustained success. I’m happy with whatever the kids decide to wear at the moment. It’s their team, they play for each other and the coaches.

We still had Orange on the front of the jersey and block S on the helmet.
I mean Ohio State wears alternate jerseys when they play Michigan a lot nowadays and they wear these junky uniforms every year now.View attachment 170538
How are blue pants more modern than orange pants?
It seems like they just throw different combinations together for the hell of it. I hate it.
Alabama occasionally wore white helmets in the late 1960s and early 1970s - very occassionally.
For the past fifty years the look has been the same - when you see photos of Joe Namath you see the same look you see now.
The same is true with Texas, Penn State, and Auburn - they always look the same.
Iowa always looks the same - immediately recognizable.
USC has changed some jersey stripes - moving back to the classic look under Pete Carroll - but the school presents the same look it has presented for fifty years.
Florida State and Florida change up a bit.
Ohio State changes up once in awhile. But the essential Ohio State look - the classic look - is the same as it has been for more than fifty years.
When you see these teams you know immediately who they are.
When you change the look from week to week, you lose the brand - it's fundamentally bad marketing.
At first I thought it was pacusewife who said that.I don’t even know you anymore
In 2019, I think we're seeing different uniform combinations because that's what the players want, where at the end of the day that's what matters. If you want my honest opinion, I don't mind the orange, blue, blue combo I guess? I loved the all whites, and I'm psyched for the all orange. I'm also more than happy with the OBO and OWO combos.
They're respecting the past with the stripes on the pants/helmet, giving nearly an identical look to our glory days. They keep it modern with different combinations to make players happy, which is cool too. I'd love to see more combinations, different helmet colors, different helmet styles, different uniform colors, uniform styles, throwback uniforms. The more the merrier.
I’m just saying what she won’t.At first I thought it was pacusewife who said that.
