Week 5 Uniforms for Holy Cross

At least the stupid gray ones are gone. I remember that VT upset in 2016, not even knowing which team was Syracuse at first.

You’re saying you didn’t know?

It’s not your fault. :p

I lean toward a more traditional look too, but to say we are with those other programs is inaccurate. We have history but we have not maintained success consistently across eras the way they have and are viewed differently. I don't like that, but it's the truth. We have 1 NC from the '50's and one Heisman from the '60's. All of them have multiple undefeated seasons, NC's, and Heisman's spread across multiple eras.

I see.

So we should treat the program as a second rate program?

We should look like a MAC team? Or we should look like UCF or USF or some other mediocre program?

That's not what I choose to do.

I choose to view the program as a cornerstone college football tradition that deserves respect.
I believe that the program should be viewed, presented and treated the same way that Alabama treats its program or the way USC treats its program.

If you think you are inferior, you will never convince kids to think otherwise.

So, I would do as Alabama, USC, Texas, Auburn do.

I would do what the NY Yankees do.

I would forego the gimmick uniforms and I would fully embrace the program's traditional brand.

.

This goes back to the saying when something is subjective nobody's opinion is right or wrong. When its objective its quantitative and measurable. Preference for the jerseys is clearly not objective its subjective.
Thus nobody is right or wrong as long they have their own opinion.
If I recall correctly, SU has in the past both worn white helmets as well as white pants.

I got no problem with blue being the color we use to go with Orange. I am just stating the fact blue isn't an official color. The second color could literally be any color.
It has been blue for a while but teams change color schemes all the time.

It could become black and orange, white and orange, pink and orange, light blue and orange. I am just pointing the fact blue isn't a school color.
Awesome, thanks, now most of us got it.

BTW...its not gonna stop the team from wearing blue. But good job though.

duke always wears a lot of blue
stanford, alabama, texas tech, harvard, rutgers always wears a lot of red
tulane wears lots of green

but our dedicated intern at nike doesn't like the color orange
I don't think the above is true. Rutgers, TTech, Stanford all wear black uniforms too. Rutgers has as many combos as SU. Tulane actually has light blue uniforms this year.

it’s amazing that there is so much debate when literally these uniforms are just for the players and future players. There is endless marketing capability in uniforms to create a buzz about a program obv... Oregon wouldn’t have come to fruition the way it did without outrageous uniforms and a Jordan brand contract that entices kids and secures recruits left and right Bc that’s what the KIDS NOT ADULTS want... also hope that everyone knows that the players on the team pick the uniforms every single week. Guess what- they don’t care what “we” want to see .. they are 18-22 year old kids that are living out their dream playing for SU. For the love of god let them have fun with it and stop living in the past

What we are “supposed” to look like is all very relative to what you’ve witnessed.

I'm not telling you to treat the program in any manner. I don't think the uniform combinations we've seen equates to reducing the program to a lower level.

Your argument was that our history is as strong as the teams you mentioned. With orange colored glasses it may be. From numerous objective measures it is not. Admitting that doesn't shoot us to the opposite end of the spectrum. There is an in between, which is where we fall.

Every uniform combination we have seen this year involves colors we have traditionally worn, even if not in the ratios we have traditionally used. Complaining about what we have seen so far this year is mucha ado about nothing.

I voiced my disdain for the old uniforms and am not advocating crazy styles or colors. What we have now is solid, even if the abundance of blue we'll see this weekend isn't my favorite.

I’d love to see the Clemson board when they go purple/purple.

Nevermind, they’re really good and probably don’t let that bother them.

Well if you want a different mishmash of colors every week then knock yourself out. I prefer the colors that say SU to people watching on TV with some semblance of continuity.
Most people just read the name and go...hey...its Syracuse. Works for me.

I used to hate these threads...now I love watching grown peeps moan over college football uniforms. Its great.

We are wearing orange lids and there is a lot more orange accents on our "blues" than there were previously.
Awesome thanks, it still doesn’t change the point he is making we are the Orange and not the “blues”.
It’s not going to stop people from actually wanting the team’s primary color featured in the uniform be orange.
Good point though.

Could not agree more. I never understood the "we must only wear O-B-O home & O-W-O away crowd". Yes, those were the combos during one our most successful eras (mid 80's - 2001) but that wasn't always the case. Don't get me wrong, I love that look but I don't buy the "that doesn't look like Syracuse' argument for different combos.

I get it, some of you want Syracuse to have an identity like Bama, USC & Ped ST (well maybe not them) but we are not like them and probaly will never be.

Exactly. Grown men who want some tradition and not look like a different team each week. I don’t care what team it is, navy blue and navy blue looks clownish.

Also the Marrone era.

i root for the sabres. the best teams they've had since I can remember anything, they wore a dumb black and red mad cow logo and then went back to blue and yellow but turned the logo into a banana slug. whenever i see any old videos of those teams, instead of thinking "that was fun" i think "that was fun but those uniforms are so bad"

when your team does something great, you'll want them to look the way they're supposed to look years down the line

we could have a unique thing here where we're an instantly recognizable non-factory and nike keeps messing it up

Syracuse is 1 Gordie fluckin Lockbaum from having 2 Heismans.

And dont get me started on ‘56 Heisman voting.

Syracuse is right there in the pantheon of college football greatness.

Don’t let the post P period cloud your vision.

And speaking of P, we should all be promoting his case to the college HOF, because he qualifies and deserves it. Instead you fluckin maroons continue to take shots at him.
