After reading these 9 pages, please tell me if I have the major takeaways correct:

1. The Lallys are the single most important donors to SU athletics and the program is forever indebted to them. (Just ask them, they’ll probably tell you the same)

2. Adam Weitsman — not a bad guy. Did some shady things in the past, but also does lots of positive philanthropic things with his money. Has the social media/friendship habits of a teenage girl. Doesn’t seem to be an ally of SU athletics at the moment.

3. Etan — passionate about social justice and many other issues. Very opinionated. Often on the mark, sometimes not. Naturally annoys people who also get annoyed when someone wishes them Happy Holidays around Christmas.

4. Devo — still my favorite new color commentator regardless of his opinions on NIL/donors.

I don’t get why AW has so many apologists, who are otherwise smart people. It’s clear he’s just in it for himself and the attention. I would love for him to step up and prove me wrong but after so much time has passed he sort of just seems like a bit of a fraud. Would be fascinating to see what he would do $ wise if we gave him free rein. Guessing it would underwhelm.
Obviously there’s some apologist like you say but I think it’s more that people just want the program to have the most resources possible and be the best possible so a lot of us don’t care about the outside bullshit as long as the program thrives

I don't think it's people being apologists at all.

Weistman is now a social media "bro" influencer millionaire with millions of followers.

He is transactional in his approach. He does X and expects Y in publicity opportunities to build on his celebrity.

The "papered" SM influencer is a new paradigm business strategy that has developed in the last decade.

You don't have to like that model or the influencer.

I'm not particularly fond of it.

But I recognize it's here to stay and recognize his money is still green.

He has significant financial resources and is willing to extend them in a donor capacity.

You find a way to compromise and get him and his resources involved.

You don't slam the door on him and stick your head in the sand "ok boomer" style because he wants to donate and operate in ways you don't understand or don't like.

Other programs are figuring out how to work with these types of influencers and recognize their money is still green.

We should be able to do similar or at least give it a try..

I know that

He sold in Miami and in the southern tier as well, because he is re-allocating money to other investments.

That said, the rumors are out there that his restaurants in Skaneateles may soon be up for sale as well
Bought a house in Ithaca recently too. He churns properties faster than most of us go through vehicles so none of this should be surprising. From my understanding the only house off limits is the one he built on the lake.

Interesting. I will admit I never thought about how we could monetize his large social media presence. It’s a new world indeed.

Kiyan is worth 30 million dollars on his own with his Social media and clothing brands. Posting the below given he has right around 1 million followers. For reference Shadeur Sanders 1.8, Travis Hunter 1.2 mil.

Cooper Flagg who you would assume was the most popular NCAA D1 Hoops player this year has 1 million as well so exactly the same as Kiyan who hasn't got to college yet.

AW has 17 million. Melo 8 million, was a little shocked to see LaLa has 15 Million followers! Also worth looking at engagement rate which is readily available information online. I think I saw AW's was less than 1% and Kiyan's was much higher. Makes sense.

I'm no expert but find this stuff very interesting.

"An influencer with 1 million followers can earn anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000 or more per sponsored post, depending on their niche, engagement, and the specific deal. However, according to Hopper HQ, most influencers with over a million followers charge between $10,000 and $15,000 per sponsored post. "

Something like this is 100% in Weitsman's power. It's up to him.
He'd rather show pictures of himself with famous people. That's his gig.
I'm not rich; far from it.
But I don't aspire to his kind of social media status - Hamptons / Kardashian / Rapper Retinue vibe.

My recollection is that the IPF didn't get it's exterior signage (the glowing "S") because there was a bit of a tug-o-war over how big the S would be in comparison to Einsley's name.
I wanted to give you a HaHa for this but I am sure that really did happen.
So...WOW!

He wants them to tell them THE high end kid on both the basketball and football side and let him go and get the kid. The rest can be covered by the collectives.

That’s the funny part of all this that I can’t understand some smart people missing. He keeps saying this; “I just want to….” He didn’t do it before. He could have paid for our best player on each team when he was part of the program and he didn’t. It’s easy to say you want to do something, then do it. He can’t still donate to NIL, nobody is stopping him from that. Nobody stopped him from funding our best player each year, yet he never did.

Oh, but now he’s going to…….

Not to brag but I have like 700 Facebook friends. Is there any way to monetize that?

He wasn’t involved long enough. He did nil to help retain players but the following fall where he could have helped get players ended too soon. Moore was the first kid he was involved with.

I know he was “involved” with players like Moore but did he actually provide any $ to any must get players. I know he did give a couple million. But people keep arguing he’d be willing to essentially fund 1 (or more) big players each year. There’s no proof of that at all. Just because he says he would now that there’s been a falling out. There’s also nothing from stopping him from donating to NIL.

If he truly wants to help SU athletics he could donate now to NIL. Someone let me know when he does.

We kind of dodged a bullet, because Marcus Adams would have come here if Adam stayed.

Did we identify who those top player or two were? It was early in the cycle.

He has significant financial resources and is willing to extend them in a donor capacity.
The problem is this isn’t true and that’s why the University told him to put up or shut up. His feelings got hurt and he went away.

He wants the clout of being a big donor without actually donating.

Either way, he’s free to donate anytime without all the drama. So he either wants the drama or wants to donate to one or both of the programs.

He could probably even donate tonight if he wasn’t busy.

Yeah, and I'm not here to pile on anybody, or tell anybody how to spend their money, their time, who to associate with. It's none of my GD business, right?

But yeah, if you want the publicity, donate enough money to put your name on a building, not pay to fly celebs to a game so you can take selfies with them.

Yes, I supposed it had some advertising / brand value for SU to get the publicity, but haven't we seen celebs in SU gear for a generation?

Seems like a whole lot of nothing so far to me.

Anyone that’s not famous with 17million followers is up to some shenanigans. I wouldn’t even know who he is if not for this board. But the Lally family shouldn’t be airing their dirty laundry on social media either. Bad look.

I get that. For me it's more, nobody is stopping you from doing NIL deals to get top players. All he's doing is getting public attention by bashing the university and creating a false narrative. I'm also sick of seeing it on social media all the time by people who are duped into believing he wants to give millions of dollars to make the BB team better when he could make an NIL deal anytime he wants.

Not only that, we generate our own celebrities.

Like, was it cool to see Damar Hamlin there? Yeah, of course. Undeniable. But frankly, it means more to me when I see folks like Dave Bing or Mike Tirico or Lawrence Moten hanging out. And I know they're there because they want to be.

Or since we're on the football board, how about all the highlight replays I saw during the draft today that I remember seeing in person. That is the stuff I go to the dome for.
