Just polling the fanbase. Are we ok with AW becoming a Mike Repole situation where he basically sits on the bench with the players and gets in the handshake line at the end of games? Also The Head Coach constantly checking in with him to make sure he's ok with his roster moves and how the team is doing.

Personally I think what's happening with Repole and Pitino down there is as creepy as it gets and cringe but they're winning and I'm real sick of losing.
The Johnnies are loaded again with highly-ranked portal transfers for 25-26.

Frankly I have heard accounts that have swayed me to both sides of this debate and don’t really have a dog in the fight. Concerning that individuals can post whatever they want in cyberspace, but more concerning that others immediately take it as fact.
Photo attached is from 2018.
Jon D. Gruden? MVP, third from bottom, middle row. Jeez, Gruden really does love us!

The problem is this isn’t true and that’s why the University told him to put up or shut up. His feelings got hurt and he went away.

He wants the clout of being a big donor without actually donating.

I’m kinda suspicious now after seeing a sponsored post by an influencer with 1M followers goes for $10-15K. He might feel any posts about Syracuse athletics are effectively a “donation” and convinced himself that’s his best way to contribute. He doesn’t appear to want to step up in any other way at this point.

As far as AW being “not a bad guy” - he’s the type of person I’d say that about in public and then avoid ever having to work with him professionally. He’s the type that you need to spend way too much time with legal negotiating a contract and anticipating every possible way he could legally screw you in the deal. So Syracuse’s general silence on this isn’t surprising to me - there’s nothing concrete to say negative about AW, but not working with him on his terms is probably the right call.

Screw you out of a deal? This isn’t Bob Congel, cmon.

I know two people he told that he wanted to invest in their businesses and then ghosted them.

Kiyan is worth 30 million dollars on his own with his Social media and clothing brands. Posting the below given he has right around 1 million followers. For reference Shadeur Sanders 1.8, Travis Hunter 1.2 mil.

Cooper Flagg who you would assume was the most popular NCAA D1 Hoops player this year has 1 million as well so exactly the same as Kiyan who hasn't got to college yet.

AW has 17 million. Melo 8 million, was a little shocked to see LaLa has 15 Million followers! Also worth looking at engagement rate which is readily available information online. I think I saw AW's was less than 1% and Kiyan's was much higher. Makes sense.

I'm no expert but find this stuff very interesting.

"An influencer with 1 million followers can earn anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000 or more per sponsored post, depending on their niche, engagement, and the specific deal. However, according to Hopper HQ, most influencers with over a million followers charge between $10,000 and $15,000 per sponsored post. "

LaLa used to be a singer, and also had a show on MTV.

He used basketball to build his brand. The only people that benefited was the influencers he paid to come, his buddies partying in the box, and AW. Why he keeps getting brought up is crazy. If he wanted to help with nil he can write a check like anyone else but he doesn’t because there is little return for him. This all comes down to roi for adam. It’s not there and he doesnt live and breath the school or sport like others do.
How did Tom Brady benefit? Can’t wait to hear the answer….

How did Tom Brady benefit? Can’t wait to hear the answer….

Did he get paid by AW to show up? The answer is “yes”.

Don’t really care how much money he has - if the reason he showed up was because he got paid, it was apparently a sufficient enough benefit for Tom to engage in an activity he otherwise wouldn’t have.

I don’t know Adam Weitsman personally but the perception that I get reminds me a lot of my experience doing business with the UAE.

They love the flash, love the attention, lots of puffing out their chests about money, lots of promises, but at the end of the day there’s often nothing there and even when there is, signing a contract is when the negotiation begins. We had a subsidiary there that we eventually closed up because it just wasn’t worth the investment.

I don’t know the full story, but if the reality is like the perception, I don’t blame SU at all.

Did tom Brady wake-up and say hey I want to come checkout a cuse game. No he took an appearance fee from aw. That’s called benefiting.

FIFY.

Guys like Brady don’t do ish like that for $ for themselves.
That’s like taking a pay cut.

But for a donation to their charity?
Yup.

They don't??? Have you ever heard of appearance fees?

Do Beyonce or Rihanna need the money? Of course not, but that doesn't mean they won't take a million dollar fee to go perform at some sheiks birthday party for his kid.

I don't think it's people being apologists at all.

Weistman is now a social media "bro" influencer millionaire with millions of followers.

He is transactional in his approach. He does X and expects Y in publicity opportunities to build on his celebrity.

The "papered" SM influencer is a new paradigm business strategy that has developed in the last decade.

You don't have to like that model or the influencer.

I'm not particularly fond of it.

But I recognize it's here to stay and recognize his money is still green.

He has significant financial resources and is willing to extend them in a donor capacity.

You find a way to compromise and get him and his resources involved.

You don't slam the door on him and stick your head in the sand "ok boomer" style because he wants to donate and operate in ways you don't understand or don't like.

Other programs are figuring out how to work with these types of influencers and recognize their money is still green.

We should be able to do similar or at least give it a try..
(Similar to Weitsman, Portnoy also donated none of his own money to land their QB this year)
