So. Can we stop all this talk about getting rid of the coach?

Thank you.
Yeah and when Donnie comes back next year and Red pounds the portal, look out ….

Why is Houston ranked 10th with two 5 stars and one 3 star and we're ranked 6th with two 4 stars? Does getting a 3 star really knocking you down that much?

Isn’t it the average rating

Well I'd rather have 2 five stars with a 3 star than 2 four stars. Does having a 12 the guy on the bench make the two 5 star guys worse or something? Lol

I don't know, that's why I'm asking in what workd it makes sense that a team with 2 five stars is ranked behind a team with 2 four star.

So if I sign 4 five stars and a 1 star and you sign 4 four stars and a 2 star, you got a better class? I don't get how it computes.

And then, Youngstown State came along.
Getting blown out by a I-AA team next year is not a resume builder.

It's still early but it's possible Red is much better at recruiting than he is at coaching.
Much of Boeheim's early career he was an absolutely great recruiter and average coach. Mid career he was very-good-to-great at both. Mid-late career he was decent at recruiting and great at coaching. Late career he was asleep at the switch on recruiting and coaching skills deteriorated rapidly.

You can have very good results being great at either coaching or recruiting. If you're not great at one or the other, you're in for tough times. The best of the best are great at both.

What do decent recruits matter if we can’t win? If we don’t make the tourney the is yr, I still say move on. With proper coaching, this team can be ok.

I don’t know how one gets assigned the label of “great” recruiter. He was probably great for the then stature of the school. He never recruited with the “ blue bloods”. Never! We got the players who were left over, with a few notable exceptions. It really feels like you weren’t there for the early years. He was a brilliant, innovative coach who proved all the “experts” wrong with that incredible zone.
Anyone who thought it was going to be plug and play replacing a Hall of Famer were delusional or ignorant. Syracuse Basketball was a brand.

Great in theory. Red 'pounded the portal' this year, did not get high impact players, and has a mediocre roster as a result.
Eh… it’s pretty clear that this roster is not the roster red would have wanted if he had the NIL bags he wanted.

Red missed out on a few point guards this off season. He got the center he wanted. He got some decent rotation players in Carlos, Davis and Taylor.

If we got Mack or Richmond, or even Leffew or one of the other B level point guards we recruited, we are feeling very different about this team.

Our top of the class talent has been very good in the 2024 and 2025 classes.

Freeman 8, White 20 and Anthony 32 are all top of the class type recruits.

Moore 77 is a very good second or third recruit in a class, but Womack isn't ranked (we'll see if committing to Syracuse changes that) and international players are not usually ranked unless they come to prep in America.

The classes, as they are currently, are top 20 classes in most years, occasionally top 10 based on the RSCI system.

To consistently have top 10 classes, we need the "lower" recruits to also be top100 instead of unranked. If we add another top50 recruit for 2025, that definitely pushes us to a top10 class... If Womack and Fennell get ranked top100 after the recruiting services actually scout them, that could do it too.

But right now, neither class is top10.

Without a doubt, Red has made an immediate positive impact on our recruiting, even if you aren't excited with his portal additions this past off season.

You’re right, it’s weird that Houston would be below us. But also it’s not about the “stars.” It’s about their actual rankings. Saddiq and Kiyan are both high four star recruits, top 35 players, close to five star status. Plus we have a couple of three stars, including one from Australia who may move up significantly once more scouts see him.

Our current class has been ranked 6 and 9 by two different services

I'm looking at the RSCI rankings and projecting, not considering the current state. We have most of our class completed, while there are still a lot of uncommitted top players that are going to push our class down in the rankings.

If we are done with these four recruits, we will be outside the top10 after everybody commits. White at 20 and Anthony at 32 is worth 150 points.

Many years the 10th ranked class has more than 150 points. Twice in the last 5 years, 150 would have gotten into the top10.

If the unranked recruits get rankings, or we add another top100 player, we could get higher.

In this day and age where 5-7 programs all get 4-5 ranked players, it's hard to sneak into the top10.

We will likely be top15, though, which would be our best class in a long time. Last year, with Freeman and Moore, we were 16th.

We aren’t dropping that much if any at all. There’s only 5 top 10 kids uncommitted and 6 in the top 50. Dybantsa will go to BYU, but the rest of those kids are going to schools already ranked ahead of us like Duke, UK, and Kansas. There’s also a real good chance some of our signees move up in the rankings.
