We're #8!

all the excitement and still on 8 in ACC. goes to show you how far we've fallen.
We are 40th in the entire country for freshman recruits. We are 34th in recruiting when you count transfers in.
Since 247 started we have never been that high in either.
We have a good season , and next year will be better.

I would be surprised if the degrees of difference between 4 and 12 are that material. Given where we have been, I think the jump made in what 2 months? Is pretty good. We will continue to add new talent post spring as well.

I'm just surprised that all of sudden we are supposed to give these recruiting rankings any degree of credibility/weight. Been told here forever that these rankings basically mean diddly squat and are just PR rigging type events/beauty contests for the big/pretty boys. ;);)

Its not only the ranking its the gap as well in talent that matters
using just the one 247 metric

2022 UNC #1 at 269 pts SU #11 at 190
2023 Miami #1 at 292 SU #14 at 185
2024 Miami #1 at 295 SU #7 at 229

The top didn't move and we jumped 40 PTS had we been at 190 again we would have been 17th. We were close to 20pts behind the next worst team last yr..

several years of that has added up in talent and depth

No more Babers driven rationalization, they mean EVERYTHING now!!

It's a bit of both - if you're recruiting blue chippers, they do mean a lot because typically the blue chippers are the top 250 kids in the class and because there is so much attention on them, it makes it harder for subjective bias to get introduced (it still does but having 4 recruiting grading sites and multiple high profile AA games helps with these kids).

When you are recruiting outside that consistently, it's highly subjective and absolutely is impacted by recruiting site bias where you have site specific analysts that have grading control over regional recruits. It's a real thing.

So if you're consistently not able to compete for blue chippers, and you're consistently in the bottom third of the conference recruiting classes as a result, it generally doesn't mean a lot because it's way too subjective, meaning the difference between being say 12th in the conference vs 17th. When you're in the top half of the conference, it has a lot more meaning.

That's fair but I think the big difference is the level of offers these players they are getting versus the players that Dino was signing. It's a pretty wide gap. Beating Georgia, Alabama etc for players versus beating Kent State, Liberty etc is quite a big jump.

in 21 years our best was 44, and all others were 50 or worse, Fran gets us to 34 in a couple of months. Pretty amazing

Giving him tons of credit. If rankings were analogous to our excitement level we’d be #1

And - IF Dino hadn’t gotten canned, we’d be DFL in the ACC, again, and prolly in the 70’s nationally.
At best.

This last class, pre-Fran, was really, really not great.
Many of the guys who got cut loose had Cuse as their only P4 offer.

And when you see where they all landed -
None remotely close to peer schools.

Ditto for the vast majority of portal exits too.
Woof.

We absolutely lose Tremble if Fran doesn’t come in to salvage that recruitment.

You really have to go back to before the recruiting site era to where we had a class graded this highly. 2000/2001, Johnnie Morant, those type of classes.

Prepstar, Superprep and Tom Lemming all had Morant as the #3 WR in the class, top 25ish type recruit.

As a side note - I forgot about Prepstar and Superprep, it's been so long lol.

I looked at 247 cause they were the most convenient year by year. They only graded back to 2003.

Edit. They didn’t grade us in 2002 so I assumed grading started in 2003 and didn’t look further back. Now I see they did grade 2 years prior to 2002. Wonder why no 2002.

2000 18
2001 29

I don't know how complete that is - it looks like for those 2 years they just graded the top 100 recruits in the class, but they didn't exist then and I'm not sure what they based it on. So they have us at #18 in the Morant class based on just Morant and Ferri.

Our last 2 44's Owens, and Konrad were Parade All Americans. Fran has us at in the conversation again.
It's been a rough 29 years going back to 95. We got Johnson and Mcnabb in that class too.

Yeah that’s craziness from ppl wearing orange colored glasses dreaming we had classes full of diamond's in the rough.
