West Coast Trip Game 1 PostGame

These slow starts game after game after game is 100% coaching. JB would either call a quick timeout and/or light up the team, set up a play or adjust the zone defense, yell at a kid that wasn't moving or took a bad shot or turned over the ball... Red does nothing. Litteraly nothing. He rarely even opens his mouth the first 3-4 min. This is happening game after game. The dude is just not high D1 head coach material and needs to be gone yesterday. Its as plain as day

That's because he has no tricks up his sleeves, no buttons to push, no answers.

He's a "no trick pony" as a coach, with respect to X's and O's and game management. He has no answers beyond what he knows from coaching under Boeheim, which is apparently limited to running practices. He's not in the same stratosphere as JB in terms of coaching acumen.

I feel like this is similar to how Hopkins got exposed at UW. He inherited quality talent from Romar, and won with those guys. Then, with his own players [some of whom were highly rated], he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. UW's offense was atrocious -- much like how our offensive system [or lack thereof] is... well, "offensive."

Which is why I don't put much stock in the "we just need to land better players" argument. If Syracuse was playing coherent team basketball and executing well on both sides of the ball, but we just lacked the horses and were coming up a little short in competitive games, things would be different and I'd understand the optimism.

But the reality is that we AREN'T well coached, we DON'T play cohesive basketball, we AREN'T good either side of the ball.

I'm really curious what the opinion is of our new assistant coach

Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment, but took a long lunch and just watched the game on ESPN on demand.

1) How did Red not call a timeout between 7-0 at the under 16 timeout and 22-2? At the very least, a timeout on the 3 point play to make it 17-0 seemed obvious.

2) Our D was at its typical subpar level, and our O isn’t great, but it was maddening watching 3-4 guys NOT MOVE AT ALL every offensive possession! How does that happen at the Division 1 level? Resulted in a succession of long prayers because the shot clock was going to run out.

How neither of those two things trigger a TO to regroup, frankly, is a fireable offense to me. That just can’t happen. It’s great they finally woke up and made it a game, but Red let them sleepwalk for the first 9-10 minutes of the half.

100% agreed on both.

We were standing still at the 3 pt line and dumping it to Lampkin like he was Hakeem and we were the 94 Rockets. Running 30 year old offense game plans.

And when we actually ran a nice play down 19-2, it resulted in a wide open 3 for…Petar.

Why not run that set to try to free up Bell/Taylor/Starling?

After every game Red always says, “ we talked about this or that.” Stop talking about it and show them how to do it. It’s the same old thing after every game. Change the starting line up with some energy guys instead of the same old ploppers who have been starting the game. Start Petar and Cuff and sit Davis and Moore. Taylor has almost been as bad for several games.

You are correct. It is a coaching problem...period!!

I dare say he would play better if he got more consistent playing time.
Red treats him like a human yo-yo.
[Cuffe]
Possibly. I don't even know with this team. One thing, though—Cuffe does do something when he's in. And it's just bizarre that he was getting so many DNFs earlier in the season. People were saying he was one of the two best players in practice, and then he would get DNFs. Now, he's a sparkplug and does try to do many of the things we discuss as needs here, but he's also as error-prone as likely to succeed. I used to say Quadir Copeland just needed more minutes and less yo-yoing to work out his inconsistency and sloppiness, but then that didn't work...

Sometimes we are seeing who they are. I think Cuffe still has some headroom. I just don't believe our staff is qualified to get it out of him. Or anyone else.

Cuffe is my favorite player, hands down, but he should transfer.
Red is just unwilling to give him a real chance on the court.
Frankly Cuffe deserves better.

Our starters only scored 29 points last night/this morning. That is just sad

There's a reason he never got an offer from the CAA, Patriot or MAAC

I'm starting to think you don't pay attention to the schedule anymore. This seems to be your go to post after every single game. I think we get the point.
Sorry for posting. Didn’t realize there was a limit to sharing feelings.

You're welcome to share your feelings. You've just posted the same thing over and over for the last several years as if it's some original thought.

Scibilia says it's a totally different system from Boheim. To that I responded yeah no system.

didnt I was the first person to repeat something on this board over a multi year period. Nor did I realize i was being monitored. i‘m sorry.

Red should transfer, to some team in the Patriot League or the MAAC, so he can learn the damn job.
I'm sorry, but he literally does not know the first thing about coaching.

So glad you're around to teach me the game. All this time I thought the inability to jump and deflect the basketball and inability to jump high enough to get above the rim and throw the ball down had to do with height and athletic ability. It's been coaching the whole time. The next coach will have the team sit indian style around the key while he shows them how to dunk the ball. We'll just have to gut it out til he or she gets here.
Tell us you don't know much about D1 ball without explicitly telling us.
