West Coast Trip Game 1 PostGame

Same old Same old. Broken record. Terrible coaching. Terrible game plan. Terrible start to the game. Terrible players. It is just over and over again the same thing every week.

But on the plus side, it looks like we get to look forward to it again next year but with different players so we have that going for us.

Again, before this game:

NET 147
No quad 1 or 2 wins

We need to win three out of the next four. Cal is bad. BC and Miami are atrocious. Duke can name their score.

If we lose three of those four, I don’t know how Red can be the coach next year. If we go 2-2, it’ll be awful.

Again, the worse team in my life. Is what it is.

The lack of a rim protector is huge. Freeman out sucks as well.
Don't see how we can get to a winning record this year.

Maybe next year will be slightly better, but I doubt it.

We are too limited. Can’t shoot well, guard well, handle well, pass well etc

Is what it is. We will stumble into 2-3 more wins and then lose on Tuesday afternoon in the acc tournament in an empty coliseum

Then we will see if Wildhack and the admin have their head in the sand or not

Go For it
Red isn't a good coach but it's mostly about our talent. We are really weak. I don't care who would be coaching. Maybe we have a win or two more but it's doubtful. We don't have a single NBA kid on the team other than Donnie. I give the kids credit for trying but they just don't have the skills to compete with good teams.

Before I fall asleep for the night if you can’t see that coaching is a major issue with this team and program then you aren’t watching the games or you have a personal connection with Red or both because it is clear as day that is the number 1 issue. All the money and talent in the world won’t matter as long as we have the same coach.

We won't. We don't have the horses.

I'm 80% with you but last year is what gives me a little hope.

The only comment I will make is that Stanford isn’t a really good team. Right now I don’t even think they are projected to be on the bubble.

Wow Eddie played the most of anyone on both teams - 38 minutes. JC made every shot -he was 6 for 6 including two 3’s (but was just 2 for 4 from the free throw line). The team, other than JJ, actually shot very well 55.6% (20 for 36) if you subtract JJ’s bad shooting night (3 for 16). We were also 41.7% from 3 (5 for 12) again subtracting JJ’s 1 for 7 numbers. Sadly, a bad time for JJ to have had a poor game. Odd how Eddie seems to play better in the 2nd half of games.

That’s all I have other than noting what a total fiasco we were for the first 9 minutes of the game when we were losing 25-2. We outscored them the remainder of the game over the last 31 minutes 59 to 45. We blew this game big time in the first 9 minutes.

First I’ll state that I liked the fight.. or at least that they didn’t pack it in totally.

Pick and roll defense and lack of any backside slides was left wanting. This created numerous barely contested layups during pivotal times. Also the reason our steals and blocks are at historical lows. It’s unacceptable and looks like middle school defense.

On defense I tend to blame the players. They are the ones that need to communicate, move and have some iota of positioning. Offense has to be the coaches. Movement off the ball and passing is the way to play. We saw some positives when the ball runs through Petar (similar to Marek). The team reminds me of the Jeff Capel early years at Pitt. Some talent but dysfunctional and you don’t know who is at fault.

Starting down 25-2 is an embarrassment.

The high school level atmosphere at the Tara Vanderveer court was an embarrassment.

Everything about the game was gross. Felt like those UConn AAC games we used to make fun of.

Now it’s us.
3000 people! Jeez that’s gonna be us sooner than later.

I turned the game off when we were down 17-0. Went back to the recording when i saw we had closed it considerably at halftime.

• I don't know how anyone can watch our team and not notice that 90% of the time, we have one guy dribbling at the top of the 3pt line, and four guys just standing there doing nothing. This, at its essence and in its simplicity, is coaching malpractice. Gross incompetence. It should not ever be this way, and nothing—no promise of 5-star recruits in the future—should excuse this or serve as a rationalization for another year.

• They presented a stat that said we were like 315(?) out of 355 teams in points scored against us. Well, years ago, when JB was supposed to retire and then when he did, and the discussion of succession was ongoing, i and many others said that it would be lunacy to expect that an assistant under JB, after playing only zone, would be able to coach M2M. We saw us trying to play M2M in that one early season/non-con game years ago, and we got trounced until we reverted to zone. Well, this is that same defense. Inept. Horrible. Can't stop anyone, and is prone to consistent failures.

• I don't know how to explain the sloppiness. Unforced errors. And even when errors don't result in actual turnovers, it's just embarrassing how poorly we handle the ball, how we try to make stupid passes, how we can't make the simple, catchable passes.

Some may take solace in the point spread thing. Or in that we mounted a significant comeback after an absurdly pathetic start. I would suggest that there is more 'ability' in the team than is being extracted. And that a good coach could have these same players executing more tightly, with actual offensive plays, and not fumbling and stumbling around for 75% of the game.

I did not watch this game. Just too late.
But can anyone explain why yet again Kyle Cuffe is at the bottom of the rotation.
The box score says he played 8 minutes, scored 6 points, had 2 rebounds and the games only block.
In a game where you would think his high energy, not to mention defense, would be at a premium he was practically ignored. They started down 25-2 for goodness sake.
This is one of the many reasons that I dont understand Reds coaching style.
What has Cuffe done to be treated like a yo yo?
And why does Elijah Moore, our frosh, only get five minute?
Both of these guys were doing so much with more playing time a few games ago, now they just make cameo appearances.
Seriously, why would either of these guys come back next year?
