In the past 6 seasons we have been ranked in the following number of weekly polls the entire season. And in the two seasons where we appeared in a few polls (2017 and 2019) it was entirely on reputation at the beginning of the season and we quickly were out of it.

2014-15: 2
2015-16: 2
2016-17: 4
2017-18: 0
2018-19: 3
2019-20: 0
A more accurate question is probably, when was the last time we were ranked heading into the post season. Our ranking last year was based on preseason assumptions. As soon as reality hit our ranking went where it belonged.

If we were top 25 teams and relevant for 4 years a down year is fine.

It’s continued mediocrity that makes frustration from me.
I hope you're only speaking for yourself, because the huge of majority of SU hoops fans would not be fine. And, as it's been about 50 years since the Orange had a down year (sub-500), who can blame them?

what's the minimum expectation for a hall of famer top 50 ? cuz he ain't hitting the AP 25 these days.

Suffering? JFC. How spoiled can you be?

So what do you call being on the bubble every year when you are used to being Top 25? I am not asking to be Duke or even Nova. But can you give me FSU? Is that asking to much for our once proud program? Has there been any joy from November through mid March the last 6 years? So yes that is suffering.

I am talking about reasonable fans.
I am not a fanboy. Nor am I am miserable.
I call it the way I see it. Thank goodness for the 2016 Final Four.
It helps the program perception a lot because since 2014 we are mediocre.
I don’t see it getting better till we have a complete team. We won’t have a complete team this year or next year unless Sidibe/JBA/Edwards get a lot better.

The product on the court is better this year. That is a fact. We aren’t playing garbage low possession games. That is good. Now can get a big who is a decent all-around player.

West Virginia had one bad year last year. They didn’t become a bubble team this year they are decent to good after one down year.
I don’t believe till I see it from us. We are on year 6 of mediocrity.

if ask your average knowledgeable fan around the nation to name the top ten programs this decade not one person outside of this board is going to say syracuse. time for even the die hards to admit we've slipped .
Are people still claiming the program hasn’t slipped?

What else do they need to see? We’re not competitive against good opponents, we’ll be lucky to finish .500 and the Dome is a half-empty morgue.

Spoiled.

You just want us to become Rider don't you
I live in St. Louis, where the local teams are Mizzou, Illinois, and SLU. All three programs would kill for our results this decade.

A portion of our fan base is just plain spoiled.

The first half of this decade we were elite. There is no disputing that.
Seriously what are fans supposed to do?
I guess results don’t matter. Just watch and shut up okay fans.

When they were ranked consistently and earning high seeds, you posted your "Boeheim only has one title" crap all over this board, so you couldn't have loved it that much.

Please help me see the correlation between "loving to be ranked," "relishing it," and "missing it" to "Boeheim only has one title," to your "so you couldn't have loved it that much" remark. Is it possible that one can love being ranked, relishing it and missing it, yet still be disappointed, etc. that JB only has been able to win one title? Asking for a friend. ;)

Yeah. And there was a time where Missouri and Illinois had very good programs.

At this point it is what it is. Just have to hope these young guys improve and give us one last good season under Boeheim, and that we nail the next coaching hire. There’s not a lot to say right now? The time for angst at slipping has passed IMO.

The problem is people are beaten down into thinking anything critical is being overly negative because they don’t circle the wagons or people are overly positive and nothing wrong is the fault of the current staff.

The program isn’t in a good place right now.

Jim Boeheim is a top 10 college basketball coach alltime. Nobody would dispute that. He has given a lot to Syracuse and has Syracuse has given it back to him.

Do you honestly believe JB will retire the year Buddy graduates? I want to believe that is the case but I don’t believe it. Our problems don’t even get addressed anymore. It’s fit whatever pieces we have into what we do.
It’s frustrating. This season isn’t the issue. It’s the fact any objective no knows next year’s projected roster is worse as somebody on the roster now has to go. Atleast 1 player.

Look what Huggins did. He fixed it in one year. He goes to watch recruits after winning NCAAT games. Not because he wants too but because that is what it takes.

6 years go back to 13. We have two final fours and a 25-0 start that had it's own line on espn in the scroll. We surely aren't where we need to be and should be. But it isn't the disaster that some would have you believe. It really wasn't all that long ago that we were playing Duke in the sweet 16 after beating Mich st. I happen to think that there are pluses on this team that we can build on. I'm talking about next year. The biggest thing is that JBA and Edwards have to get stronger. If we could ever get lucky, which for some reason happens to other schools, not us and have Hughes come back. Let us not forget you and I laughing at JB's comments about Hughes when we at the casino. He was right and we were wrong. There will be growth from these young kids. It's just too bad that we didn't land Stewart or have a sr big that was tough as nails. This team would look a lot better even right now.

The “spoiled” stuff is so silly.

Fact: SU basketball is Jim Boeheim. He is an all time great coach who has done amazing things. His success for 40+ years set the lofty expectations for this fabase. The vast majority of SU fans have a profound appreciation for Jim Boeheim.

Fact: The SU program has slipped considerably in all aspects since 2014. While we all want to see renewed success, their aren’t many compelling, concrete reasons to believe we’ll be a top 10, title contending team anytime soon. And Jim Boeheim is now the oldest head coach in the history of college basketball.

I don’t know how many times I have to point out that it is possible to walk and chew gum.

This year’s team isn’t the problem. Everyone has these seasons. Kentucky, North Carolina, elite programs have them. The problem is the program isn’t bouncing back. We shouldn’t be mediocre this many regular seasons in a row. It’s our own fault for how the staff has managed the roster. If we had Isaiah Stewart this year and the kid from MI who chose Kentucky next year we are a top 25 team.
Day2 is from Missouri well consider me from there as well as I need some Show Me before it can be shown we will get back to just consistent top 25 status.
