Nahh, scouts aren’t dumb. They know that the goal is the NBA and when you’re a consensus top 5 pick it’s all about preservation. Frankly, he’s probably one of the smart ones. Yeah hell get crap for this but he doesn’t have anything left to prove

It’s definitely causing some second thoughts in NBA front offices. That’s been talked about on a couple podcasts I listen to.

The guy who will bail on his college team in these circumstances is the guy who will shut it down in the NBA when he’s got a fat contract.

I’ve seen a good bit of Kansas this year with and without Peterson. I’m not going to say Kansas is a better team without a consensus top 3 pick in the NBA draft, but I certainly don’t think they’re worse. Bidunga and Council are really good players, and honestly just seem like winners who are capable of leading Kansas to a final four without Peterson.

Doubt Self has the cajones to do this but he should tell Peterson that it’s best to part ways.

Nobody is doubting his talent but when you have to chose between him and a few other all world talents , I’m going with the guy I know will show up to work . It’s the difference between him going fist or 4th. Not 1st or 15th

Is Peterson smart by doing this though? This isn’t football where a.) injuries are much more common and b.) serious injuries can really impact your draft stock negatively.

The NBA drafts on potential. If Peterson had a serious injury he’d still almost certainly go top 5. Nerlens Noel was 1/2 the player Peterson is and he got drafted 6 with a torn ACL.

He can’t be in the NBA. So his choice is G-league, overseas, or college. The fault lies with the NBA/Union.

He did the same thing in HS before being nicked. I would take Dybantsa number one of him. Night and day between the effort the two give and Dybantsa has a more well rounded game.

I think he will too and the NBA won't care. If "faking", the kid has played this very well because when he does play he impacts games more than pretty much any kid I've seen. He clearly is using KU as a business deal and I sort of like the role reversal.

I really wish for transfers, the school losing the player would need to be paid a fee. Boosters could never justify giving funds to an opponent and the system would collapse quickly.

For sure -- the mid-majors need to have something to show for developing players for the big programs. Need performance-related contracts made lawful too, salary caps, and all around a pro-style system.

He's only played 15 games and averaging 5 minutes plus or less than the other three top projected draft picks. A lot of people have Peterson as #1. This is what college basketball has come to. Has UNC seen the last of Caleb Wilson. These guys have come this far, so why risk it.

Eh maybe - Simmons could never score or shoot. NBA loves guys who can get a bucket and Peterson is much more proficient at that than Simmons. Personally I think he is gaming the system and will be a pretty good pro but I guess time will tell. As you said in your other post he is certainly not Kawhi.

Simmons was 6'10" PG with vision and could play defense. 2x All Defense. 1x Third Team All NBA.

Everyone can get a bucket in the NBA. Not everyone can be considered Magic on O and Rodman on D. However, the worry was that his competitiveness was never there (this was in his NBA scouting) AND, not with his shooting, but that he couldn't take advantage when he got a small guy on him to get to the bucket.

Peterson is just another wing. But without the competitiveness. And agree about Kawhi. That dude is a 2x FMVP, at his peak was arguably the best wing defender of all time and was vying for MVP level titles.

Peterson has a lot of talent. But that's it.
