What's the best game you've ever seen in the Dome?

1987 vs WVU. The entire undefeated season came down to a two point conversation in the last minute (no OT back then). Hard not to select Brominski, Nebraska, Clemson (2017), PSU (1987), and Pearl's half court shot though.

That would be my choice also. I rewatched.it on the accn last week like it was 1998 all over again. Other than Charlie Steiner being a God awful play by play guy it was a a great moment.
The game was actually insanely frustrating. Down 21-3 off 3 complete fluke plays.

Then we slowly climb back, only to give up 2 points on the weirdest two point conversion attempt of all time, complete with an obviously intentional fumble after McNabb ran the kid down.

Then we come down for the game winning TD, but somehow botch it and end up scrambling around on like the 10 yard line...then we win?!!

It just felt like it was shaping up to be a typical Cuse nutkick the whole way, and instead we won in the most thrilling fashion we’ve ever won in.

What made it even more fun was I was sitting in the VT corner of the Dome. Bought our tickets from WR Andre Davis’s father. VT fans were so obnoxious when they were winning. In the first half some guy kept mockingly screaming “McNair for Heisman??!!! McNair for Heisman??!!” Yeah, he said McNair. I won’t lie, it pissed me off. My brother and I were complete maniacs that game though. Hokie fans surely hated us by the end.

I prob would be banned from the game thread if that game happened today lol very maddening. That VA tech defense was really good. McNabb on the final drive was just incredible. That run it was like he was shot out of a cannon. And the throw to brominski to be able to throw across your body and throw a rope like he did and put it right there was incredible.

McNabb was just so special. He was a guy who you couldn’t miss a play, because he was capable of making the greatest play you’ve ever seen, every single snap.

And I would love him that much more if he went to any team other than the Eagles lol.

Defining "best" as a combination of high stakes + great performances + SU win, it'd be a toss up between...

1991 vs. Florida
1998 vs. Virginia Tech

I'd probably take these two as well, and if I had to choose, I'd go with Florida because, like you, it was my first year on this journey.

Most fun - 1998 Miami. It was just a big party from seniors being announced through going on the field (calmly) after the beatdown.

Gut wrenching losses - 1992 Miami, 1994 Oklahoma, 1996 Miami, 1998 Tennessee.

1996 Virginia Tech is an honorable mention, which turned a season around. As is 1995 West Virginia/BC when we turned those two series' around (both shut us out in 94, WVU also did in 93). The original Big East and the 90s were so much fun. Things just aren't the same.

Decided at the last second to drive home from school for Clemson 2017. Went right from western mass to skytop just in time to hop on a shuttle for kickoff.

That night was validation for all the bs I’ve taken from friends and cousins for obsessing over a team that has only been bad since I’ve been old enough to comprehend what I’m watching

I’ve never taken a loss worse than NC State in ‘97. I’m still not over that game. It enrages me.

I agree, 90s SU football was a blast, because we could hang with any program in the country on any given Saturday. As they say in Shawshank Redemption, hope is a good thing.

I think we’d come to love playing in the ACC if we were good. As hard as that is to imagine these days.

Same here. I didn’t even want to mention that because we should have won by 4 TDs. (plus I thankfully didn’t attend).

The 4 I listed would have all been huge wins, but close heart wrenching losses.

Was not in attendance at games in 1987. Did see Miami in 1992, but we lost.

Here's a dark horse:

WVU in 1995. Dominant defense, 96-yard McNabb-to-Harrison touchdown, and a solid sense of "we're back."
Mine are 87 wvu, 92 um, 98 vt.
I was at that 95 wvu game. After wvu pinned us inside the 10, my cousin and I decided to hit the pee troughs. While in there the dome exploded in noise….yep, the 95 yd McNabb-Harrison td..ugghhh.

1991 Florida

Those SEC fans weren’t as smug after the game… The final score 38-21 didn’t show how much we totally dominated them
Two words, Kirby Dar Dar…or is that three?
Spurrier never came north of the Mason-Dixon Line again after that beat down.

I was in the corner that Dar Dar ran to on the kickoff. Watching him come full speed at me and the rising crescendo made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

What a day!

The best was the crowd explosion at the moment of the handoff on the reverse. He still had 90 yards to run, but we knew. (actually, one Florida player had a chance to make a play, but too much speed).

There were some spectacular blocked punts in that one, for both teams.

No, no they are not. Those were fun games and rivalries and teams.

Best: 87 West Virginia.

Worst game: 2013 GA Tech (not a Dome game)

Nebraska, 1984. SU was just a speed bump for the #1 Cornhuskers. They beat the Orangeman 63-7 the year before. And that game wasn't as close at it looked.

Then the Cornhuskers came to the Dome. Syracuse hung with them early and the crowd got behind them. I'm convinced the crowd was a factor in the game. I think I remember the QB, Norley was playing hurt. SU held Nebraska to 1 touchdown.

The game stunned the nation. The highlights and results were played over and over around the country. SU finished the year 6-5.

Fun fact: The 3rd string QB on that team was Don McPherson.
