Count me among those thrilled that the Terrel Hunt era has begun. He looks the part, I see him as a stronger/sturdier/slightly less athletic version of Quincy Carter. That is not meant as a slight. Carter was a very good college QB for the majority of his college career.
I also think that many here are equating Hunt's arrival (and supposed strong play over the next 2+ seasons) with future SU football prosperity.
I am not certain this is the case. Why? I am not enthralled by what I see on the offensive line so far. In fact, I am discouraged.
I have sensed zero push on the O-Line to date. Not left side. Not right side. I do see slightly above average pass protection. And that is something.
But I am worried, and not only this year, but next year and beyond. Macky is done. Hickey could legitimately leave.
I've been following this program since the mid-80s and our O-Line play almost always coincides with our W-L record. Remember 1993? I know, I too am trying to forget too. We had ALL of the skill positon talent (Graves, Qadry, Hill, Harrison, Walker, Richardson) we could realistically dream of and we stunk (6-4-1) because we were WEAK on the O-Line (and out LBers stunk too).
Last year, our OLine was likely one of the top 5 in CFB. I mean, by season's end, with Pugh at full force, I bet we were a legit top 15 team. We could run AND throw the ball against anyone.
We need to recruit and gain commitments from HIGH SCHOOL kids. I understand the need/desire to plug in an JUCO upperclassman or two. But we've gone to the extreme and I think we could pay the price in the not-too distant future.
So, cross your fingers on OG Aaron Roberts. Need him. And I would urge HCSS to move Kendall Moore back to the O-Line. I think he could become a heck of a left tackle in short time (by next year). Especially with Provo now in the pipeline.
One last point. If you notice, SU and BC are rarely good at the same time. Why? Because one of the 2 programs usually outrecruits the other for the Northeast's O-Line talent.
I'd love to be wrong, because EVERY hard-nosed program has a nasty disposition on its O-Line. We can do this.
