At QB? I’m going with the underdog in Shrader. I don’t think, in general, you can win with a QB that can’t make plays with his legs. At the powerhouse schools...yes. Here?... no. Running game overall needs to make a HUGE step forward for us to have ANY level of success.

This is what I know , TD has been poor since he has taken over as starter. No doubt the Oline is a problem, the protection should be better but not drastically so I think we need a guy that can create plays with his legs. Whoever that is should be up front be it TD, Schrader , JM , Lamson or DM.

I hoping for TD. (For his sake as well as his father’s sake)
Experienced senior with talent...he should get first crack. Hopefully it all clicks and comes together for him this year.

If not, it’s nice to know we have other legit QBs as options. The “gutty 5th year guy with smarts and moxie that can’t throw” thing got old.

Tommy Devito will be much more of a factor than I think you guys are giving him credit for. Because of maturity and experience, he will show more pocket awareness and escapability than he has in the past. He'll start at least the first 3 games, and we'll see how it goes from there.

If we lose to Ohio, he gets a quarter against Rutgers to do something. If he plays poor in the quarter or we fall behind by a couple scores at half, I think Dino makes the switch.

If we beat Ohio (struggle), and look ugly on O vs Rutgers (likely), we may see Shrader in for numerous series vs Albany, and head into conference play with a QB controversy.

I like TD, some may disagree but he has played with injuries and I think given his best. I think some had him as the can't miss superstar and when he didn't live to those expectations a number of fans bailed. He has flaws, gotta assume he has worked on them. That said I don't think you bring a guy like Shrader in and not play him. TD gets starter slot. They alternate series. Whoever moves the ball keeps playing. If Shrader doesn't know offense enough he gets specialty plays until better grasp. I think both play from the get go. Dino is not waiting a game or two.

Not going happen for it to take that long.
DB is not going to wait. He knows what he has in TD. DB job on the line. If TD starts it will be very short if he does not score 6 on the first series and continues to move the ball against OH.

I think Tommy starts the season but more than one QB will play and the other may or may not be Shrader. It could be one of the others.

Somebody will hopefully grab the job outright and, with luck, will make us forget about the other QBs. If we are not lucky, somebody will grab the job but will leave us wanting. Hope for the former but have a sinking feeling that it could be the latter.

Right now, everything about Shrader is based upon potential and not previous accomplishment. As for Tommy, we know his skills and we know the several areas that need improvement. He would seem pretty far along in his career to make a very big jump in the improvement areas but you never know.

Tommy knows the offense, he previously has needed those around him to excel in order for him to look good but perhaps this year they will. I think the odds are high that he starts the season. After that, it is anybody’s guess who is starting when the conference foes hit the schedule.

Agree DB is not waiting.
I believe shrader will grasp the offense. He has been on campus since January. Probably studying the offense before that time.
TD has suffered injuries and had a poor Oline but his issues which have been pointed out repeatedly have not improved since his freshmen year.
Let’s be honest if chance amie or any other quality qb would have been an option he would have been replaced a long time ago.

I keep hearing TD knows the offense so he has a leg up.
That may not be correct. Gilbert runs a similar offense but there will be differences. TD did not have a spring with Gilbert and injured a majority of last season. Shrader and the other qbs have almost as much time with Gilbert as TD.
The other thing I think people are missing is what Gilbert prefers in a qb for his offense. Every qb he has recruited since he arrived is a true DT which TD is not.

I believe TD will be the starting quarterback week 1. I do think Shrader will be the starting QB by the end of the year, whether it's from play or injury. My worry is still with TD being able to handle pressure and the ability of our offensive line to decrease the amount of plays TD (or someone else) is pressured.

I agree that Tommy will likely start the season, but I disagree that everything about Schrader is about potential. Don't forget-He started as a True Freshman in the SEC and had some nice moments.
