Team 1, neither team has a glaring weakness but Carm is best player on court and Dion doesnt share the ball quite enough. Lol and lets face it, team 1 has The Rings

Team two. Assuming JB is the coach and zone is being played MCW and Dion would tear up Gmac and Rautins on top of the zone. Two big time post guys in RJ and Rak and an all around slasher uber athletic guy like Wes to round it out, as good as team one is the defense on team two is outstanding.

Fun topic.

Dion doesn't share the ball but Melo does?

Carmelo had 7 assists in the title game if you recall. How many assists did Dion have against OSU in his final game? Lol

Team two is easier to beat. Lack of knockdown shooting besides Wes. The zone would be stretched thin against team one with three shooters on the court. I realize team two is better inside, especially on D, but the offense on team 1 outside makes up for it.

Team 1 mainly for floor balance. With Gerry and Andy you have two of our most feared dangerous shooters and both could do much more than shoot especially Andy. You also have Melo who is the best player on either squad CJ who would just kill you as a complimentary player and AO who demands attention in the post.

Team 2 is also great and certainly a bit better defensively out top but Rick on the wing can be exploited and the combination of Rick/Rak clogs things a little bit especially when neither guard is a reliable long distance shooter. Wes is basically the only guy you absolutely cannot leave alone behind the 3pt line and he wasn't going to kill you off the bounce due to closing out hard.

Melo was always a willing passer to guys who could score but also very willing to take over when it was needed or other guys weren't getting it done. One of the great strengths of that 03 squad was having 2 guys who were not only willing to take the shots that decided games but they also expected to make them. They took the pressure off of the other guys to perform offensively.

Melos year here he averaged 2.2 apg per 40, Dion 4.1 apg per 40. I think your lol to try and prove a point is quite humorous.

Either one of those squads basically kills it in any of the last 10 seasons of college hoops probably the last 20.

Melo could / can be pretty selfish but i choose to remember how he played in that title run!

Dion was a combo guard Melo was a forward, at least be reasonable.

Certainly but was less likely to be so when things were going well on offense and usually stuck to the game plan so long as it worked early on.

Team 2's guards are more athletic, but Teams 1's are better shooters. Wes helps even out things for team 2 with outside shooting. Team two has the better combo of post guys, maybe the best 1-2 punch at rebounding too, but team 1 has three legit rebounders and it's sometimes easy to forget how good Melo was at rebounding his freshman year (10/gm).

Ultimately team 1 wins. Melo is the only guy on the floor that can score in every way and would make everyone else's job easier because of it. He would command too much attention and GMac and Rautins would be open too often. Too much midrange scoring with Fair and Melo for the zone to handle too.

I am the one being reasonable, I think it's more unreasonable to say that Dion never passes the ball to defend the other team that has Melo on it is a little crazy.

If I were Melo I probably would pass the ball either.

Ok fair enough, point well taken, will take your word on those stats, but remember, this is a one game winner takes all, not a 38 game season. And in winner take all, Melo has the ring

True, but so would an all-star team of any big-time program. Could you imagine Kentucky's?

John Wall/Eric Bledsoe/Michael Kidd-Gilchrist/Anthony Davis/DeMarcus Cousins

Or maybe Jeff Teague in there for better shooting.

Agreed.

You are being reasonable, you make very good points. You are also a contrarian thinker as the only one to pick team 2 so far and nothing wrong w contrarian thinkers! Takes guts

Altho i do agree w Jordoo, its more of a guards job to distribute the ball than a forward, but thats just me

3 pt percentages

Gmac .354
Rautins .374
Melo .337
Fair .343

MCW .307
Dion .348
Wes .415

While team one can spread the floor very well team two is very capable of defending the three while I don't feel the same about team one. I think if team two is up against team ones defense their percentages could go up and team ones could go down against team two.

If you put Rak at the 4 instead of the 5 and Rj at the 5 you have MCW, Dion, Wes, and Rak guarding that line. All of them are well above average with quickness and team one doesn't even have a point guard and guys who I would call average at best passers. Team two also has two bigs who can pass the ball out of double teams.
