Why did we get Lampkin?

I have videos of Lampkin making it up and down the court in about 2 seconds during a drill from practice a few weeks ago. I can’t post videos bc the files are too big but everyone would be shocked at how quickly he moves. Unfortunately he’s hurt. Not bc he isn’t in shape. He also played some very valuable minutes down the stretch when they needed him

You and a bunch of others have been overhyping this dude in the face of all previous and current evidence that he isn’t a great player or athletic specimen.

He’s playing against terrible D2 teams and a D1 team in the 300s.

I’m deemed a hater because I’m one of the people that acknowledges he’ll just be an ok player that is limited, especially on D.

And yes, he’s not in shape and won’t get in shape. This year he doesn’t have three NBA players on the court with him, that’s the difference. Ain’t nothing else.

When big guys aren’t in shape, they get injured over and over again.

Glad he makes a mean dry rub and he wants to shoot threes.

Not going to lie, thinking about the time he has put into his side hustles, and the fact he isn't in shape has me quite frustrated. Especially since he is now a paid employee for the team. Do the cooking stuff after the season.

His first responsibility and only job (outside of class, LOL, class) should be playing hoops and getting physically prepared. The preseason drama doesn't help his image either.

LeMoyne ran a really well-designed offense with a ton of screening and ton of movement. They sustained that activity level and movement all game. If your goal is to have one guy follow his man through three screens and then defend him with no help off the dribble when finally gets the ball ... you are going to get a lot of players struggling to stay in front of their man.

Red's defensive system isn't just rudimentary ... it's incredibly predictable. Rooting for Red but we are going to get torched playing that system with these players if we don't adjust add some wrinkles and get these dudes playing as a team quickly.

Why can’t we run a really well-designed offense…with a ton of screening and movement.

I thought we showed 'concepts of an offense' lol. I mean, there were little pieces at least. I mean Lampkin at the high post will be a problem with his passing, we tried some high-low action (mostly failing, but I like the idea of it at least) and that double-high post with Davis and Lampkin in particular was very effective.

We also looked good in transition.

But yeah, watching teams like LeMoyne and Colgate run actual offenses has bothered me for years. Good teams will disrupt what you want to do and you'll have to be able to adjust and freelance at times -- but more often than not that movement (player and ball) is SO much better to watch.

It's how I felt about Judah's summer of partying and super cars.

I'm happy with him and Davis. Our 7-5 center might never play again with his persistent injuries.

Starling is going to get Red fired and we won't see a Red team that doesn't involve JJ getting blown by for 35+ minutes that is the fatal flaw here imo.
It's our system. JJ may be a bad defender, though it didn't jump off the screen at me last night, per se. But we play atrocious team defense with no over-arching philosophy beyond 'pressure the guy with the ball and try to deny the guys off-ball'. That is the full extent of our scheme. It's not great as a general rule but maybe it would work if you were loaded with long, athletic, switchable talent but ... we're not that.

When he came back in they finally took the lead. Screened their center twice for Davis to get four points. Offensive rebound bucket then he played the two-man with Davis again.

Stop hating Lampkin because he played the NIL game, it's embarrassing.

I personally like Lampkin. His defense and conditioning are questionable, but I like his offensive game around the basket and interior passing. It's nice having an actual big man who isn't 180 lbs that can back his man down and score on a baby hook.
I like him too. But people, as usual, over exaggerate the ability of our players.

You are a hater because when you say "he is not in shape" it implies that he was not disciplined enough in the offseason to get in shape. You don't know JACK about what lead to his back injury! We agree that he is limited on D, but you always want to take it a step further and say he is unmotivated to get in shape. Character judgement on a guy you do not know at all makes you a hater. Plain and simple.

Seems like a hell of a leap you made here. A few times.

If this was his first post on the subject it would be. It ain't. He is obsessed with knocking this guy down a peg.

Just stand in line with the rest of the people here who kept telling me how great we would be and how great players that weren't great over the past decade were when all evidence pointed to the opposite.

If you see Lampkin and think he is in shape for a P4 ACC player, so be it. We can respectfully agree to disagree.

But not being ready on day 1 for someone we are paying too much isn't good if he got injured because he's out of shape for this level of athlete or he slipped making dry rub.

Either way, he isn't ready.

BTW, his MPG previous to this year and total games played in:

3.4 / 10
21.5 / 33
21.8 / 24
27.8 (this being the year he played with three NBA players) / 37

So, for a big guy that hasn't sniffed 10 boards a game and now has a bad back, what are your expectations that I should have for Eddie Lampkin, please?

"If he got injured it is because he is out of shape"...or maybe...he just got injured!! Lmao. I can't with you man. "Not ready on day 1"...or maybe he was injured on day 1! And his play in the final minutes was crucial for us to win!

You are not always right man. You are jumping to conclusions with this guy way too quickly. I don't want to keep getting into it but you keep trashing the guy and I feel like I need to defend him. We literally agree on his poor defense/rim protection. But Red brought him in for a reason. You saw it in those post plays at the end of the game, including that beautiful pass to Davis. I think you have to give him more of a chance.

Tell me your expectation for him this year, please. So we can make it black and white what our disagreement is on his abilities.

Let's just put it in writing.
