Why didn't Dino Babers bring Eric Dungey back sooner?

The Shafer people are going for the jugular.
Give me last nights stupid over anything from the SS era.

Dino was stubborn but he won so oh well. He wouldn’t have done this if it’s was an ACC opponent.
DeVito will be fine that was the first time he played and it was on the road against a decent MAC team.
Dungey actually looks better after DeVito struggled.

If he didn’t have Robinson and Shafer as 2 of our last 4 coaches then last night would have been crazy.

Shafer was fired three years ago. Time to get over it and sing a different tune. You've beaten this horse to death.

Read the people taking shots at Dino in this thread. It’s the Shafer people and that hiring requires all the shots.

Dino deserves every shot he gets after last night’s display - it has nothing to do w Shafer.
We won the game on the road by multiple scores.
You have no clue if Dungey was hurt.
Dungey’s own comments supported Babers.

Last night was a good night but because the defense gave up 3 long chunk plays fans are acting like the season is over.

That was a game we lose last year and we won this year. We hadn’t won a road game in 2 years.

Dino isn’t perfect. He isn’t in over his head like our previous HC was.

So everyone questioning Dino's decision regarding Dungey last night is a Shafer acolyte? Gotcha.

In this thread it is the Shafer people. Moderators don’t like people being specifically called out. So saying Shafer people should be significant as to I am talking about.
I didn’t say anything more.

Disagree. He dinged his shoulder. It didn't prevent him from playing one bit

its pretty simple to understand what was going on and the concern for any sort of injury. some of you can do all the mental gymnastics you want.

This is a ridiculous take.

Mental gymnastics? Did you stop watching, or did you see him go back in and pick right up where he left off. There was no injury concern. He got taped up and was ready to go. If this was any other player it would have been business as usual.

he went back out with the risk of further injury to the shoulder that was already hurt. but babers decided to take that risk when the score got close. should have done it a possession earlier, buts simple to understand the risk aversion that was going on.

Dino is clearly a better coach than Shafer - you like to debate things that aren’t debatable.

Dungey was hurt - but he wasn’t injured. There is a difference- which was clearly demonstrated when he got back in the game and scored 3 TD’s himself like it was a walk in the park.

You don’t wait til it’s a 6 point game to put back in your best player. You have to realize that Devito is shizzing himself, because his passes are 5 yards off target and that leaving him in the game is a meathead move. He’s just not ready for prime time. Practice ain’t the game. You save the kid from himself before he drowns, but he didn’t, he let it continue to unwind almost to the point of no return. It never should have gotten that close.

TD was mostly fine. Yeah, he had some jitters, but the OLine did him zero favors.

He had 2 BIG gains called back due to penalties. That's not on him.
That pass on the move to Custis down the sideline was next-level good.
Butler alligator-armed a possible long catch, looked to give up on it - which he did all night.

Pierce fumbled after a perfect shuffle pass. TD's fault? Hardly.

You must have been watching a different game. Kid was overwhelmed and missing targets by a mile.

Let's not forget that this QB who allegedly got "dinged" (only dings say dinged) and was "fine" also played half a game with a broken foot when he was, allegedly, fine.

I know three things for sure, for sure.

Dino Babers has forgotten more about football than virtually everyone on this board will ever know.

Dino Babers, contrary to popular belief, is human and therefore is capable of mistakes, misjudgments, and making bad decisions.

There is more going on behind the scenes than any of us will ever know or be able to make sense of.

This is part of it. The shoulder ding presented an opportunity to give TD reps. The timing/injury were early, but I was ok with it. We were up 3 scores and Dino figured that we could drive at will. Hard to argue with that reasoning, at the time or in retrospect.

The issue for me was ... letting TD stay in too long. A couple of series well into the 3Q would have been enough to let him "dig out" of adversity (the pocket broke down on him several times). Instead ... Dino let a first-half rout turn into a second-half contest. Our offensive rhythm disappeared. ED got frustrated. TD couldn't sustain drives and our impotent pass rush allowed Wassink-Eskridge to expose our secondary.

In the end, however, Dino's confidence in our ED-led offense was vindicated. I can blame him for being too risky and making fans nervous, but not for being wrong. 55-42 (with a TD left on the table out of respect).

I disagree. Given Dungey's injury history I think it was the right move.
At the end of half yes put DeVito in but not start of third quarter. Some quick scores and it’s a 70-7 game and devito plays entire 4th quarter. We would be sitting pretty and making some teams think heavy and hard about us.

I’m sorry, 9-16 doesn’t grant you this leash.

We ain’t talking about Boeheim here.

All these opinions are... opinions. Can’t we just go by what Dino said?

He didn’t elude to a “dinged” shoulder. He said he wanted to get TD reps. I don’t consider a bag of ice a smoking gun nor do I dismiss that he was hurt. No one here really knows what’s up but some like to surmise they do.

If they had lost that game after leading 34-7 because they wanted to get a backup QB some reps, it would have been the end of the season, the end of Babers grace period from criticism, and a colossal set back for the program. That doesn't seem like a smart decision.
nah did you watch it ? Devito did not look bad the D did (why i dont know ) that scares me more ...see all those long run hits
they had ?

Up 34-7, I don't think anyone anticipated that the D would give up 3 TD's in 10 minutes.

If we held WMU to only 10-14 points all game, this isn't even a conversation.

Who knew that Dungey was our best defensive player.
Right on point if the Def held up this is nothing, and for what ever reason it took a dump for 20 mins and that scares me for better teams

Some people want to defend Dino at all costs. I get it. People think he’s the last great hope for the program - and he probably is - but last night was one of the DUMBEST coaching moves I’ve seen in my life. Between this and those onsides kicks last year his style of game management is concerning.

You wanna get the frosh some non-garbage time game experience - go for it, but at least rotate possessions between the QB’s. Don’t let the kid shiz his pants 5 possessions in row and have it in his head that he’s single-handedly blowing the game.

Football is a game of momentum and Dino’s stubbornness allowed the other team to completely flip the momentum. WMU was playing fast and loose and our guys were tight and overthinking. And if it wasn’t for Dungey’s Rhode Island sized stones and overall badass-ness, we would have lost.

nice but Devito did not look to bad out there the DEF did long plays killed them
